    Mt Toubkal Charity Trek

    This is a fantastic long weekend challenge providing a short trek through the magnificent Atlas Mountain range and taking you to the summit of North Africa’s highest peak, Jebel Toubkal (4165m). Trekking through stunning scenery, it is suitable for inexperienced and experienced trekkers alike and although testing, it is surprisingly, not too strenuous. As you climb, you will start to see the dramatic landscape unfold until you reach the summit and your ultimate reward; panoramic views across the entire Atlas chain, and on clear days you will also be able to see Marrakech, the Sahara Desert and the Atlantic Coast. Reaching the top of North Africa is a breathtaking experience and as you look across the savannah and the Atlas chain, the reward is a feeling never to be forgotten. Our expert local guides are on hand to support you and they are always happy to give you an insight into the culture and lifestyle of the Berber people and the real Morocco. Starting and ending in Marrakech, you will also have time to enjoy this colourful city while exploring the famous Djema El Fna and the endless maze of markets in the Medina.

    This trip enables you to enjoy both the mountains and the colourful local culture of the Berber villages that are built into the steep valley sides. Your local guide can tell you all about the local culture and traditions, so you get an amazing insight into the region.

    Morocco is such a captivating and charming country of contrasts which has a knack of drawing you back repeatedly to explore it further and this challenge may well inspire you to return in the future.

    Travel Insurance This trip will require a policy that covers you for trekking up to a max altitude of 4167m. Check any existing policies before taking out specialist insurance. Budget £40 for a stand alone policy. Vaccinations All standard boosters should be up to date. Please check with your GP or travel nurse for any additional requirements. Tips for local staff We would recommend you should set aside £35 in Moroccan Dirhams to be divided between the staff. Advice will be provided on our recommended ratio in our final travel information.     Inclusions Exclusions

    Day 1. Depart UK, fly to Marrakech Fly from London on a direct flight to Marrakech. On arrival in Marrakech, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel/Riad. Once you have settled in, you will want to experience the famous Djemaa el Fna square. Your first experience of the square is one of a senses explosion; entertainers performing, a myriad of food stalls all lit up with the smells to accompany them, and the general melee of activity.

    Day 2. Depart for Imlil, trek to the Neltner Refuge (3200m) After breakfast, you will depart and drive into the High Atlas mountains to the town of Imlil. This is just a 90 min journey. Once you have met your trek crew, complete with mules, you will trek steadily up to the Neltner Refuge, some 5 - 6 hrs away. The Refuge is a large imposing stone building capable of housing many people, which is extremely useful in bad weather. Camping grounds are next door to the Refuge and it is often preferable in the summer months; it’s cooler. Approx 5 hrs, BLD

    Day 3. Summit Mt Toubkal (4167m) - and return A long day ahead as you have a pre-dawn start for the ascent of Toubkal (4167m). The terrain varies and can be steep in places. You will also highly likely cross patches of snow and certainly some sliding scree. There are some great views from the infamous triangle that marks the summit. Trekking poles are an advantage on this mountain, especially in the scree on the descent. The descent is by the same route and you can take your time as once back at the Refuge, you can rest. Approx 7-8 hrs, 1000m ascent, BLD

    Day 4. Trek to Imlil and transfer back to Marrakech In the morning, it’s a nice descent back to where the trek begun, meet the transport, say goodbye to your trek crew and head back to Marrakech. The afternoon is free. Approx 4 hrs, B

    Day 5. Depart for London, B At the appropriate time, you will be transferred back to the airport for your return flight home.
