Network</p><p>MuirGrayenteredthePublicHealthServicebyjoiningtheCityofOxfordHealthDepartmentin1972afterqualifyinginmedicineinGlasgow.HenowworksonedayaweekasaconsultantinpublichealthinOxfordUniversitiesNHSTrustandinhisNHSroleheisinvolvedinsupportingleadershipandmanagementdevelopmentinOxfordshire.HeisalsotheconsultantinpublichealthintheDigitalHealthandSocialCareService.OneofthemissionsistotransformNHSChoicesfrombeingsolelyawebsitetobeingaknowledgeservicedeliveringknowledgetocitizensandpatientswhereandwhentheyneeditthroughletters,sentasemails,thoughlabreportssentdirectlytopatientsandindocumentslinkedtothedispensingofprescriptions.</p><p>HehasbeenworkingwithbothNHSEnglandandPublicHealthEnglandtobringaboutatransformationofcarewiththeaimofincreasingvalueforbothpopulationsandindividualsandpublishedabookcalledHowToGetBetterValueHealthcarein2007.ThemeansofdoingthisthroughSystemsisnowcalledPopulationHealthcare.Theaimofpopulationhealthcareistomaximisevalueandequitybyfocusingnotoninstitutions,specialtiesortechnologies,butonpopulationsdefinedbyacommonsymptom,conditionorcharacteristic,suchasbreathlessness,arthritis,ormultiplemorbidity.ThisworkrequiresculturalchangenotstructuralchangeandthedevelopmentofPopulationHealthcareandPopulationMedicine,astyleofclinicalpracticewhichfocusesonallthepeopleinneedinthepopulationandnotjustthosewhoreferthemselvesorhavebeenreferredishiscurrentfocusbothinEnglandandinanumberofothercountries.</p><p>Dr Melanie HiornsConsultant Radiologist, Great Ormond Street Hospital</p><p>DrMelanieHiornsisaconsultantradiologistandDivisionalDirectorofMedicine,DiagnosticandTherapeuticServicesatGreatOrmondStreetHospitalforChildren(GOSH)inLondon.Herclinicalworkisfocussedonbodyradiologyandshehasaspecialinterestinthegenitourinarysystemandgastroradiology.Shehasbeeninaseniormanagementroleforeightyearsandhasresponsibilityforover700staffanda50Mbudget.</p><p>GOSHwasanearlyadopteroftheISASaccreditationschemeinRadiologyandcontributedextensivelytothepilotprojectwork,andsubsequentlybecamethethirdhospitalintheUKtogainaccreditation,andtheonlyspecialistchildrenshospital.InparallelwiththisshebecameaNationalAssessorforISASseveralyearsago,andcontinuestodothisworkassessingradiologydepartmentsagainstthecriteriasetoutbyISAS.</p></li><li><p>7Withrespecttoconsultantinterviews,shehasbeenonthereceivingendonlyonce(!),buthasbeenonthepanelformoreconsultantappointmentsthanshecanremember.</p><p>Mr
