Some of the problems, in the interest of “green tests”, will be recycled. HINT

This includes the LAB quizzes. Learn what you don’t know.

Look at the problems. Be sure that you can work them.

Create your “cheat sheets”. Be familiar with them. I don’t want you to memorize them. I want you to be able to use them.

Always multiply by “1” to change units

ALWAYS use consistent units! (For instance, feet and cm are length units, but feet don't cancel out cm!!)

ALWAYS write the units down AVOIDING superfluous units (made up units that don't belong)!!

ALWAYS be sure that the units cancel out by having one in the denominator and the other in the numerator or vice versa.

ALWAYS be sure the units of the final answer match the units you are seeking.

1. A car is traveling 65 miles per hour. How many feet does the car travel in one second?

2. The density of water is one gram per cubic centimeter. What is the density of water in pounds per liter?

3. How many basketballs can be carried by 8 buses?

· 1 bus = 12 cars

· 3 cars = 1 truck

· 1000 basketballs = 1 truck

A farmer who has four cows ready to go to market. He trades the cow for chicken at the rate of 20 chickens per cow. He trades the chickens for pig at a rate of 15 chickens per 2 pig. On average, each pig weighs 140 lb. The pig he trades for corn, 3 bushels of corn per pound of pig. The corn is then traded for wheat at 1 bushel of wheat per 2 bushels of corn. Wheat is premium, so he trades it for rye, 5 bushels of rye per bushel of wheat. He gives the rye to a baker, who makes 500 loaves of bread for each bushel. The loaves of bread are given to a pet store who can feed 3 birds per loaf of bread. The birds are used to feed snakes, and each snake eats an average of 9 birds before being sold for $32.00 each. How much money did the pet store make from the four cows?
