The English Language Program (ELP) Cal State LA’s English Language Program (ELP) provides affordable instruction in an intensive academic program designed specifically to prepare students for success at the college or university level. The program offers five levels of instruction and an optional University-Bridge Program at levels 6, 7, and 8. Level 5, however, is considered sufficiently advanced, allowing students to be eligible for admission into college or university credit courses and degree programs. Performance reports with letter grades are issued at the end of each academic term, and a Certificate of Participation is awarded to students who successfully complete all program requirements. Several local area colleges will accept completion of upper levels of the ELP as a substitute for a score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Intensive English The Intensive English Program prepares students for academic success and admission into Cal State LA or other colleges or universities in California and the U.S. The program consists of at least 18 hours of classroom instruction per week over 16-week semesters. Classes meet Monday through Friday and cover the below topics. Students who successfully complete Level 5 of the program or achieve acceptable scores on the TOEFL or IELTS can enroll in The University Bridge Program. Program Schedule

Application and FeesStudents who wish to attend the ELP must submit a completed application packet no later than 6 weeks before the start date for each term. Program fees are as follows:

Fall Semester begins in late August and the Spring semester begins in late January. A 10-week super intensive Summer Term is also available and begins in early June.
