Forthisyear’sworkshop,wehaveendeavoredtoshowcaseinnovativeprocedures that have not been demonstrated before in Malaysia.Tothisend,wehavearrangeddemonstrationsbyleadingexpertsindirectcholangioscopy, transgastric/duodenal EUS guided cholangiography,probe confocal endomicroscopy, harmonic EUS and motorized spiralenteroscopy.

Emphasis on therapeutic endoscopy: technique, indications limitations and pitfalls. ProfessorTajiri is currently Chairman and Professor in theDivision ofGastroenterologyandHepatology,DepartmentofInternalMedicineandalsoProfessor in theDepartmentofEndoscopyatTheJikeiUniversitySchoolofMedicine,Tokyo,Japan.HegraduatedfromHokkaidoUniversitySchoolofMedicineinSapporo,Japan,in1976,andreceivedpostgraduateprofessional trainingat theDepartmentof InternalMedicineatCancerInstituteHospitalandtheEndoscopyDivisionatNationalCancerCenterHospitalinTokyo.In1990,hewasappointedAssistantProfessoroftheSecondDepartment of InternalMedicine at National DefenceMedicalCollege, and in1995, he joinedNationalCancerCenterHospital East,astheChiefoftheEndoscopyDivision.

Professor Tajiri’s specialty and research interests are gastrointestinalendoscopy,aswellasbiliaryandpancreaticdiseases.HisrecentachievementsaredevelopmentsofvariousnewendoscopicdiagnosisandtreatmentfortheGImalignanciesusingnarrowbandimaging(NBI)system,magnifyingendoscopy,fluorescenceendoscopy,endoscopicsubmucosaldissection(ESD)andNaturalOrificeTranslumenalEndoscopicSurgery(NOTES).

HehasbeenactiveasChairofInternationalCommitteeinJapanGastroenterologicalEndoscopySociety(JGES),ChairofJapanNOTES,andamemberoftheWGO/WEOJointEducationandTrainingCommitteeof theWorldGastroenterologyOrganization. Inaddition,hehasbeenactiveasasteeringcommitteememberofInternationalCongressofEndoscopy(ICE2011),acouncilmemberofAsianPacificDigestiveWeek(APDW),anddirectorofEndoscopyMasterForum.
