In the beginn ing, Bruce Wayne went to see a mov ie w i th h is parents , and on h is way home, they were murdered by Joe Ch i l l . Bruce is then ra i sed by the fami ly but ler , A l f red . 14 years later , Ch i l l i s granted paro le to test i fy aga inst a loca l mob boss . B ruce then goes on to explore the cr imina l underground and becomes a pr isoner h imsel f. In a pr ison, Henr i Ducard teaches Bruce mart ia l a r ts in the temple of the League o f Shadows. He finds out the League p lans to dest roy Gotham Ci ty , so he burns down thei r temple and sees Ra’s A l Ghu, the head o f the League, d ie , but saves Ducard . Afterwards , Bruce returned to Gotham c i ty and met Luc ius Fox , who worked at Wayne Enterpr ises . Luc ius Fox showed h im many techno log ies that the company was develop ing, which ended up becoming the Batmobi le and the su i t that Batman is known for. After he takes up the ident i ty o f Batman, he intercepts a drug t ransport and uses the ev idence to get Carmine Fa lcone arres ted. Carmine and h is goons are t ransported to Arkham Asy lum by Dr. Jonathan Crane, who had been us ing Carmine to get sh ipments of a terr i fy ing drug that caused ha l luc inat ions . Crane becomes the ev i l Scarecrow soon after. Whi le invest igat ing Crane, Batman gets exposed to the drug but i s g iven an ant idote by A l f red . Crane revea ls to the DA, Rachel , that he had been dumping the drug into Gotham’s water supply , and then in jects her w i th i t . Batman saves her and interrogates Crane, who revea ls he had been work ing for Ra’s A l Ghul . Afterwards , a t Bruce Wayne’s b i r thday party , Ducard reveals to h im that he was the real Ra ’s A l Ghul , and te l l s Batman h is p lan. The League then sets fire to Bruce’s mansion and begins to po ison Gotham. Batman then saves Rachel and begins to fight Ra ’s on a t ra in , and Ra’s d ies when the t ra in crashes. Batman becomes a hero and d isappears into the n ight , a fter learn ing o f a new cr imina l who leaves Joker p lay ing cards at cr ime scenes.

SUMMARY OF THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

In my opinion, the ordinary world is when Bruce is a child. Before his parents were killed, he was just a normal child with rich parents. After they were killed, he took it upon himself to fight crime on the streets of Gotham.

THE ORDINARY WORLD

The call to adventure is when Bruce’s parents are murdered in front of him, and when he discovered the League of Shadows’ plan to destroy Gotham. After these events, he truly became Batman.

CALL TO ADVENTURE

Bruce’s mentors were Alfred Pennyworth, who raised him, and Henri Ducard, who trained him in martial arts and made him the powerhouse known as Batman.

Bruce crossed the threshold when he took up the identity of Batman and began to research Dr. Crane and Arkham Asylum.

CROSSING THE THRESHOLD

Some tests/enemies presented to Batman were Scarecrow, Ra’s Al Ghul, the Joker, Two-Face, and Bane breaking his back. Some allies were Commissioner Gordon, Rachel, Harvey Dent before the explosion, Alfred, Lucius Fox, and eventually Catwoman.

TESTS, ALLIES, AND ENEMIES

The approach to the innermost cave happened when Batman gathered a group of people to go defeat Bane while Bane’s goons were fighting the police force.

APPROACH TO THE INNERMOST CAVE

The ordeal was Batman’s final battle against Bane and getting stabbed by Talia Al Ghul after defeating him. Batman was almost killed by Bane, until Catwoman killed Bane to save Batman.

ORDEAL

Batman’s reward during the hero’s journey was defeating his greatest enemy, Bane, finally saving Gotham, and being able to retire from being Batman.

REWARD

Batman’s elixir was saving Gotham and marrying Selina Kyle. He was honored as a hero by Gotham and left his manor to the city for them to turn it into an orphanage.

THE RETURN WITH THE ELIXIR

Hero -Bruce Wayne/Batman Batman is the obvious hero of this trilogy. He saves Gotham from danger many times

throughout the series. The Mentor-Al f red Pennyworth/Henr i Ducard

Alfred raised Bruce Wayne after his parents were killed, and made him the way he is. Henri trained Bruce in martial arts and gave him the skills to be Batman.

The Shapeshi fter-Catwoman, Ra’s A l Ghul Catwoman was originally Batman’s enemy, but ended up marrying him. Ra’s Al Ghul

masqueraded as Henri Ducard, but later revealed his true identity. The Shadow-Scarecrow, The Joker, Bane

These were Batman’s strongest enemies throughout the series, and gave him the biggest challenges.

The Maiden-Rachel , Se l ina Kyle These are both women that Bruce had feelings for during the series, and he had to

rescue them from danger. The Father-Al f red

Batman’s father was killed when he was around eight years old, so Alfred raised him, and acted like Bruce’s father.

The Threshold Guardian-Ra’s Al Ghul Ra’s obstructed Batman throughout much of the time when Batman was beginning to

become Batman.
