THE CILIP CARNEGIE AND KATE GREENAWAYSHADOWERS’ CHOICE AWARDCERTIFICATE COMPETITION

Competition detailsIn 2020 we will celebrate the Carnegie Greenaway Medal winners and Shadowers’ Choice Awards, voted for and awarded by you, the Shadowers.

CILIP is inviting Shadowers to get creative and design or illustrate the winning certificate to be presented to the Shadowers' Choice Award winners at a celebration event on Friday 9th October during Libraries Week 2020.

The Shadowers’ Choice will be awarded to one book from the Carnegie shortlist and one from the Kate Greenaway shortlist.

PrizesPrizes are available for two Shadowers: One for the Carnegie winner One for the Kate Greenaway winner

The two winning Shadowers will win a ticket and travel* to the celebration event at the Northern YA Festival in Preston! (And a plus one for their chaperone).

See the 2019 competition winners (pictured above) with Jackie Morris (Greenaway winner), the awards host, Konnie Huq and Elizabeth Acevedo (Carnegie winner).

Winners will also receive:

• The opportunity to present their certificate to the winning author orillustrator at the celebration event.

• Plus the chance to meet shortlisted authors and illustrators, have theirphoto taken with the winners and receive copies of the winning bookssigned by the author and illustrator.

*Please note that CILIP will cover reasonable travel costs for the winner and their chaperone toattend the celebration event.

How to enterYou can enter this design competition in five easy steps:

1. Decide which medal you are going to create a certificate for:the Carnegie or the Kate Greenaway

2. Download the certificate template on page 7 of this document

3. Get creative and produce an eye-catching design using the template(make sure you keep within the frame) Use colour, line, pattern, texture, collageand creative ideas to make your design standout to the judges.

• Your design must include:The title of the award: The CILIP Carnegie Shadowers’ Choice Awardor The CILIP Kate Greenaway Shadowers’ Choice Award

• Your design should not be:Themed to a specific book or author on the shortlist. As we don’t yetknow who will win the Shadowers’ Choice Award your certificate shouldbe suitable for any winner from the 2020 shortlists.

4. When you are happy with your design, ask your group leader or a parent/guardian to help you create a high resolution scan (jpeg format, 300dpi) of yourartwork to submit the design electronically or if entering by post download acopy of the entry form to accompany the design.

5. Email your design as an attachment to ckg@cilip.org.uk along with the entryform.

DeadlinePlease submit your entry by 5pm on Monday 14 September 2020.

JudgingThe CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Awards team will select the winning certificates for the Carnegie and Kate Greenaway category. The competition winners will be contacted by Friday 18 Septembr and announced in our weekly email bulletin.

Terms and conditions ● We can only consider entries from UK-based shadowing groups currently registered for the CILIPCarnegie and Kate Greenaway Awards shadowing scheme.

● Certificate designs must be submitted by email or post by the deadline. Entries received after 5pmon 14-September-2020 will not be considered.

● Only one entry per shadower per medal category is permitted.

● To be eligible, entries must be created according to the specific competition requirements statedon this page.

● By entering the competition, you give permission for the shadowing participant to be named andcelebrated by CILIP as part of their promotional activity, events and communications around theAward.NB: You should adhere to the policies of your own school or library with regards parental permission forchildren under 16 entering competitions.

● The judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the judges’decisions.

● No cash alternatives to prizes are available.

● Prizes are not transferable.

● Only ticket holders can attend the awards celebration event.

● Your school or library organisation is responsible for organising travel arrangements, seekingparental permission for shadowers attending the ceremony, including photo permissions and fortheir safety and wellbeing when in attendance.

● CILIP reserves the right to change the competition information or rules at any time.
