Martin Brown, Principal
The Charger Brigade
Principal’s Corner
Hopefully with the passing of February, winter weather will pass too. One thing that will certainly pass is the first portion of
ISTEP testing. Beginning this week, our third, fourth, and fifth grade students will be taking part 1 of ISTEP. While the
testing window is open well into March, most of our testing will be finished this week. If you are the parent of a third, fourth,
or fifth grader, please try to schedule appointments in the afternoon. The bulk of our testing will be conducted Tuesday,
Wednesday, and Thursday (March 1-3) before noon. Third grade students only will be taking the IRead assessment the
week of March 14 - 18. Make sure your child gets a good night¹s sleep and good breakfast prior to school. Thanks for your
support with this. I do hope everyone has a great spring break. - Mr. Brown

Make Up Days
The EVSC has taken four snow days, two of which will be made up on April 15 and 18. The third snow day was originally scheduled to be made up on Monday, Feb. 15, but that make up day was also cancelled due to inclement weather. The two remaining snow days will be made up using the state’s virtual option. In the virtual option, students will be given their virtual lessons on a Monday and students will engage in the virtual lessons throughout the week with the support from teachers through virtual “office hours.” Students will have one week to complete the assignments. Students who do not complete the virtual lessons will be marked absent. This year’s virtual schedule is:
Monday, Feb. 22: first virtual assignments distributed. Assignments will be due Monday, Feb. 29.
Monday, March 28: second virtual assignments distributed. Assignments will be due Monday, April 4.
Paragon delivery is March 14.
Money is due March 28.

Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 will participate in the spring ISTEP+ testing. Grades 3 through
5 will be tested in English/Language Arts, Writing and Mathematics. Fourth grade will also
be tested in Science and fifth grade will also be tested in Social Studies.
The Applied Skills Assessment will be given to students February 29 - March 11, 2016.
The Multiple Choice Assessment will be given April 18 - May 6, 2016.
You can help your children prepare for the spring ISTEP+ testing by insuring they get a good
night’s sleep, eat a good breakfast and dress comfortably. Following these simple tasks will
put your child in the right direction of doing their very best. For more information on

THIRD GRADE “IREAD” ASSESSMENT TEST
March 14-18, 2016
Third grade students will take the IREAD Assessment test on March 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and
18th. ATTENDANCE IS CRITICAL! Please make sure your 3rd grader is in attendance all three
days of testing. If students miss taking this test during this time window, then they must
take it during the summer testing window.
The purpose of the Indiana Reading Evaluation and Determination (IREAD-3) assessment is
to measure foundational reading standards through grade three. Based on the Indiana
Academic Standards, IREAD-3 is a summative assessment that was developed in accordance
with Public Law 109 which “requires the evaluation of reading skills for students who are in
grade three beginning in the spring of 2012 to ensure that all student can read proficiently
before moving on to grade four.”
