GIVING TREE 2018
Was very successful! St James served 33
children. They each received a backpack and
gift cards for clothing and shoes. Thank you to
all those who participated by taking all the tag
from the tree.
Special thanks to our Christian Services who
helped cover all the Masses at the Tree. We are
grateful for the Knights of Columbus for allowing
us to use their room to store and sort
backpacks and school supplies.
The names of 88 children were provided by the
school social workers and our Mason food
bank. They are divided among five Mason
churches. This is a community working together
to help those in need. Thank you St James.

Mass, dinner, drinks and listen to Father Burke Masters speak on “Chaplain
for the Champs”. Fr. Burke was not raised Catholic but attended a
Catholic high school to accomplish his dream of being a Major League
baseball player. Fr. Burke fell in love with the Eucharist and the Catholic
Church and became Catholic his senior year of high school in 1985.
He played baseball at Mississippi State University and played in the
College World Series. After graduating from college he worked as an
actuary for Kemper Insurance. Then went on for a Master’s degree in
Sports Administration in which he worked for the Kane County Cougars
with his goal on being a major league general manager. Fr. Burke felt the
call to priesthood while working for the Cougars. He attended Mundelein
Seminary from 1997-2002 ordained on June 1, 2002 out of Mundelein
Seminary. He served four years as an associate pastor at St. Mary’s Parish
in West Chicago before becoming vocation director for the Diocese of
Joliet in 2006. He still serves as Vocation Director and since 2013 as the

YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS!
CONFIRMATION
INTERESTED IN BECOMING CATHOLIC?
ARE YOU SOMEONE OR DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO…
Has expressed an interest in becoming Catholic?
Has a child over the age of seven who has not been baptized?
Was baptized Catholic as a child, but has not celebrated the Sacraments of Confirmation and
Eucharist?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process established for the universal Church for individuals to
become Catholic and receive the sacraments of initiation—Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist.
But how does our parish attract inquirers each year who consider becoming Catholic? The answer is you! As members of a
welcoming and evangelizing community, we must be open to the Holy Spirit and the call to share the Divine message of
salvation. The call to conversion can happen in our families, in the work place, in gatherings with friends and neighbors and in
any contact that we make.
The RCIA initiation process also involves a parish community experiencing a renewal in faith as it prepares and welcomes new
members into the Church. The Rite speaks of conversion as a "spiritual journey." Centered on fostering a deep relationship with
Jesus and the Church he founded, this journey takes place through distinct stages over a period of time suitable to bring
about a thorough catechesis, resulting in a significant experience for the parish community and a commitment to the liturgical
and moral life of the Catholic faithful for the catechumens.
If you, or someone you know might be interested in learning more about or participating in the RCIA process, please contact
Alison in the parish office at 517-676-9111. The first class is scheduled to begin on Thursday, October 4th at 7:00 p.m. and will
continue every Thursday through Pentecost.

So if you give $10, Meijer doubles their donation

the registers about donating. No purchase
