from sunburn is to use a combination of shade, clothing and
sunscreen. Use a sunscreen with at least factor 15 and a
high star rating. Use it generously and reapply regularly.

Cervical Screening Awareness Week is a
UK-wide initiative led by Jo's
Cervical Cancer Trust. The week (8th -
14th June) aims to highlight the
importance of cervical screening and how
attending a screening invitation can help
to prevent cervical cancer.
In the UK, 22% of women still do not
attend their cervical screening, so raising
public awareness of cervical cancer
prevention is a priority. Public knowledge
and understanding of issues such as
cervical screening, the causes of cervical
abnormalities and cervical cancer and
treatment is generally low.

risks of child accidents and how they can be
prevented.

parents and families take every day keep
children safe.
Big or small, there are lots of things you can
do to take part in Child Safety Week and
help us reduce the number of children and
young people killed, disabled or seriously
injured in preventable accidents.

Waterproof sunscreens lose some of their
effectiveness after 40 minutes in the water. All sunscreens should be reapplied every
two hours.
Whilst many of us like to enjoy the sun and hot weather, we should make sure we
do it safely and remember certain groups of people are more vulnerable than
others to the effects of heat or ultraviolet radiation. Extreme heat can force the
body into overdrive as it tries to stay cool through perspiration and evaporation.
Cancer Research UK have come up with three top tips to help people enjoy the
sun safely:
1. Spend time in the shade if your shadow is shorter than you.
If your shadow is shorter than you are, then the sun is strong. During the UK
summer, the sun is at its strongest between 11am and 3pm
2. Wear a hat, t-shirt and sunglasses when the sun's strong.
Wide brimmed hats or foreign legion style caps are best. A wide-brimmed hat,
long-sleeved top or maxi dress will not only help protect your skin but are also
the height of summer style!
3. Cancer Research UK recommends you use at least factor 15 sunscreen with
a high star rating.
Sunscreen rubs off easily if you sweat, swim or change clothes. So whether you're
in the UK or abroad, when the sun is strong remember to apply generously and
reapply regularly
