“This project was the first phase ofa three phase propertystrategy, located at our Lansdownecampus in Bournemouth.Challenges included being in aconservation area, in closeproximity to Grade II listedbuildings, restricted site access anda requirement to remainoperational throughout theprocess.The contrast between the Grade IIlisted buildings and the aluminumrainscreen overcladding hasworked well, visitors and newstudents believe that the 1950’sover-clad building is a new facility.For any institution considering anover-cladding project or a newbuild, with an aluminum claddedrainscreen, I would highlyrecommend the pro-active servicesof d&b facades.”

PROJECT BACKGROUNDThe three storey E Block was builtin 1958 and the two storey BBlock in 1925. These buildingswere scheduled for demolitionand planning consent was grantedfor new build replacement in2008. Following the withdrawal ofcentral funding, the Collegeembarked on refurbishment inorder to continue to reflect thebrand exemplified on its othercampuses. Insulated aluminiumrainscreen overcladding, high-performance aluminium-timbercomposite windows, over-roofingand other envelope worksincluding demolition of chimneysdelivered a building with theappearance and performance of anew-build for a fraction of thecost.

The projectincluded thedemolitionof chimneysand otherrooffeatures.
