THE BLACK AND WHITE OF PAVEMENT
This three part series covers the following three topic areas. You can register for one, two or all three sessions.
The Black and White of Pavement Series #1: Pavement Project Planning and Development – October 25, 2007
The Black and White of Pavement #2: Preservation Techniques – December 6, 2007
The Black and White of Pavement #3: Construction of Quality Flexible and Rigid Pavements – February 7, 2008
Location for all three sessions: City of Winnipeg Public Works Dept. Training Rooms A, B C, 1155 Pacific Avenue, Winnipeg
Registration: Two days before each event. Late registrations may be accommodated (depending on space availability, but handout materials may not be supplied to late registrants). If you would like a digital copy of the presentation handouts, bring a USB compatible flash memory card (files are PDF format, approximately 25MB each).
Date: October 25, 2007, 12:00pm 3:00pm
Description: The first broadcast in the Pavement series focuses on planning and developing pavement projects. Specific discussion includes information about hot mix asphalt and Portland cement pavements.
After participating in this program you will be able to: • Conduct pavement evaluations and distress surveys. • Design nondestructive forms of testing. • Identify types of field sampling and testing. • Identify candidate treatments. • Coordinate pavement project selections.

Description: The second broadcast in the Pavement series overviews maintenance and preservation techniques to help you maintain and preserve your black and white pavements. Speakers address options for maintaining asphalt using crack, fog, slurry and chip seal; microsurfacing, asphalt overlay; and hot and cold in place recycling techniques. Cement maintenance options include joint sealing, diamond grinding, dowel bar retrofit and partial and full depth repair.
After participating in this program you will be able to: • Identify and compare hot mix asphalt pavement maintenance options. • Identify and compare Portland cement concrete pavement maintenance options.

Description: The last broadcast in the series about pavement concentrates on the quality construction of flexible and rigid pavement. Discussion about hot mix asphalt includes the material, laydown and compaction of the pavement. Information about Portland cement pavements includes materials, forming and pouring, and finishing techniques.
After participating in this program you will be able to: • Identify the components of hot mix asphalt pavement required for quality construction. • Identify the components of Portland cement concrete pavement required for quality construction.
