POTENTATE “2017” MARK A. SIMARD
Dear Nobles, Ladies, And Friends, I hope everyone had a wonderful July! What a way to cap off the month with a great Picnic hosted by H.P. & P. Brent Norris and Lady Tracey. Brent & Tracey put in a tre-mendous amount of hard work and effort to make this a successful event, from acquiring a sponsor for the event to putting together the menu and helping to set up the facil-ity. The turnout for the event was awesome! For those of you who were not able to attend. KC’s Rib Shack of Manchester provided a meal of spare ribs, dry rubbed spare ribs, pulled pork, chicken breast, smoked sausage, coleslaw, baked beans, and corn bread, if anyone went away hungry it was not due to the lack of menu options or food. Lady Linda and I appreciate your hard work, effort, and time. KC’s Rib Shack is located at 836 Second St Manchester. They are open year-round for your barbeque fix.
Myself, Lloyd Doughty, Bushie Hill and our Ladies Linda, Donna, & Judy attended the 143rd Imperial Session of Shriners International. For those of you who are not familiar with the Imperial Session, it is basically a huge business meeting where Shriners from around the globe come together in one location every July and vote on legislation that effects both the Fraternity and the Hospitals. There were over 50 items to be voted on this year dealing with by-laws changes, some of which were passed, some failed, and other were with-drawn. Also at the Session the Impe-rial Officers are elected and installed in their respective positions. Our New Imperial Potentate is Gary J. Bergenske from Orlando, FL. And the newest members of the Imperial Divan are Randy Rudge as Imperial Recorder. Many of you may know Randy as head of Membership. He is also a member of Anah Shriners of Bangor Maine, and Larry Leib of Detroit as Imperial Outer Guard. I wish these gentlemen the best of luck in their new positions.
Our new Imperial Potentate Gary J. Bergenske has instituted a new refer-ral program. You can refer a family member, friend or co-worker you feel would be a good candidate to become a Shriner. They will be sent infor-mation on becoming a Shriner with your name as the referring person. Imperial Sir Bergenske has set a goal of 12 thousand new Shriners by the 2018 Imperial session. I’m sure we all know at least one person who would make a good Shriner.

August is upon us and we have a couple of fun events this month. Beginning with the Poker Run on the 12th. Sign in starts at 10:00 am, with the 1st bikes leaving at 11:00 am. To pre-register please contact George St. Laurent at 603-865-5359. Please see the ad in this is-sue of the Bektash News for com-plete details. Aug. 15th, We are looking for vol-unteers (20-40) to sell music CD’s at the Styx & REO Speed Wagon concert at Meadow Brook in Gil-ford. We will meet at the venue at 4:30 for a tailgate party. When the gates open we will be inside sell-ing CD’s for 2 hours before the concert starts. After we are fin-ished selling we are welcome to stay and enjoy the concert. The last time we did this we raised over 3 thousand dollars for the Spring-field Hospital in 2 hours!!! And had a blast doing it! Please call Dixie before Aug. 14th to have your name added to the list of vol-unteers. If your name doesn’t make the list they won’t let you into the venue. Aug. 17th-20th is the North-East Shrine Association Field Days in Ottawa, Canada. We have approxi-mately 90 people attending this year’s event. The Host for this event are Bushie and Judy Hill.
It is Canada’s 150th anniversary. Our Hotel is 2 blocks from the Par-liament where they will be having a Laser Light Show every night on the Parliament building. They will be doing a changing of the Guard at the Parliament Building before the parade There will also be plen-ty of events during the weekend to keep you entertained. Be sure to take in the parade and support our Drum Corps. I look forward to seeing everyone there. Also on Aug. 20th Winnipesaukee Lodge #75 is hosting their Monthly Breakfast from 7:30-11:00am In closing I would like to THANK the volunteers who helped to change out the lighting in the Hall. All the lighting has now been con-verted to LED. This should help to control our cost and give our facili-ty a bright new look. Fraternally, Ill. Mark A. Simard

Ill. Potentate Mark Simard, Chief Rabban Lloyd Doughty, myself, and our Ladies, have just re-turned from Daytona, FL. where we a ended the 143rd Annual Imperial Session of Shriners
Interna onal. As expected, the weather was warm, 94 and the humidity was in the 80’s. We had over 650 Nobles a ending the mee ngs. As expected, and rightly so, the number one item that was dis-cussed was Membership. We heard a few new ideas that were brought up and explained to us by Membership Commi ees from successful Shrine Temples. They have proven effec ve and will be explained to our Membership Commi ee so we all can benefit from their results. As they all said, it takes a lot of hard work and dedica on to get the results we all want. We all have to help our Commi ee. We are all very happy to report that we have 70 Nobles and wives going to O awa, August 17-20, 2017, for the Northeast Shrine Associa on Field Days. This is the largest turnout we have had in quite a while. It is very encouraging to see our Nobles and Ladies returning to travel mode. Our Potentate Mark and First Lady Linda are very happy with your response to this trip. Lady Judy and I have worked very hard on this trip, especially Lady Ju-dy. We want our Nobility to support the Divan and return to the old Bektash ways of having a good me when we get together. We will have a blast in O awa. CHESHIRE SHRINE CLUB August 2017
Here we are August already! Where did the summer go? The kids are getting ready for school and the older kids are packing for college. By the time you read this most of the major picnics are over and we hope that you had a super time at them. The Cheshire Shrine Club wants to thank everyone who supported the picnic here in the southwest corner of our state. We don’t have a lot to report at this time as our members are spread thin, this being vacation time and camping season and all. Please remember that our Potentate and Ladies Night is coming up on October 1st 2017 and our Annual Meeting will be held on January 28, 2018. Anna and I have been kept busy as we have adopted a rescue dog. Her name is Sasha and she is a two year old German Shepherd. We love her but our old cat Blackie isn’t so sure about it. Randy E. Rudge of Tampa, Florida, was elected Imperial Recorder, part of the 12-member body that helps govern the Shriners fraternity, during the Imperial Session in Daytona Beach. Rudge, a member of Anah Shriners and an associate mem-ber of Egypt Shriners, is now serving his first year as a member of the Boards of Directors for Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Brad T. Koehn of Topeka, Kansas, was elected Impe-rial Treasurer, part of the 12-member body that helps govern the Shriners fraternity, during Imperial Ses-sion. Bobby B Simmons Appointed as Imperial Chaplain
During the Imperial Session, Bobby B. Sim-mons of Bonaire, Georgia, was appointed as Imperial Chaplain for the 2017-2018 Imperial Year. Simmons is a member of Al Sihah Shriners, and served six years on the Shriners Hospitals for Children® Board of Trustees, from 2009 through 2015.

Dear Fellow Nobles, First and foremost, Lady Anne and I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the trust you have placed in us for the com-ing year. We are both incredibly eager and ex-
cited about our new roles, and look forward to meeting many of you and working with you throughout this Imperial Year. Serving as your Imperial Potentate is certainly an honor and a privilege, and I am grateful for the opportunity bestowed upon me to lead the greatest fraternity on earth, and help guide us into the future. I promise each of you that I will spend every single day working to strengthen both Shriners International and our beloved philanthropy, Shriners Hos-pitals for Children®. The Bektash Reten on Program is an ongoing pro-gram that will assist Nobles who are having financial issues due to fixed incomes, loss of employment or family issues.
This program will allow us to retain Nobles on the rolls instead of losing them to demits or suspensions. This program is only for Nobles who s ll hold an ac-
ve Masonic dues card.

Imperial First Lady Anne’s Project Kicked-Off During Imperial Session, First Lady of Shriners International, Anne Bergens-ke, announced her fundraising program, Love Grows Miracles. The program will provide funding through scholarships to support research being done by physicians and scientists at Shriners Hospitals for Children to ensure healthy births and pave the way for the development of innovative treatments that may one day eliminate some birth disorders. First Lady Anne hopes that one day more children will be born healthy, and that the availability of improved treatments and procedures that can be per-formed before birth will help make this possible. “Every parent hopes their child will come into this world healthy, and without difficulties. The researchers at Shriners Hospitals for Children are working hard to gain understanding that will help develop and refine in utero proce-dures, ultimately allowing more parents to experience the incomparable joy and wonder of a healthy newborn,” said First Lady Anne. Whether the problem is spina bifida, cleft lip and palate, cerebral palsy, limb abnormalities, or any other of countless complex medical conditions, First Lady Anne hopes there will be solutions in the future. Science and research have the potential to provide answers that may one day eliminate the occur-rence or development of these conditions. Shriners Hospitals for Children has a long history of conducting research that leads to new, innovative treatments that change lives. Since the first Shriners Hospital opened in 1922, our health care system has been responding to unmet medical needs of children, and providing answers and hope where there were none. That tradition continues as we seek to gain the knowledge and under-standing necessary to ensure more babies are born healthy, without difficul-ties. It is a fraternal, self- sup-por ng Shrine Associa on dedicated to the furtherance of the aims of Shrinedom. It has grown from its’ infancy on the East Coast to all fi y States and many foreign countries. Its’ expansion con nues with no end in sight. It is considered by most to be the most family oriented organiza on in all Shrinedom. We are in the process of selec ng representa on in each Shrine Center. Shriners of North America, is an Interna onal fraternity based on fun, fellowship, and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, truth and relief. Shriners Hospitals for Children is a network of hospitals dedicated to providing one-of-a-kind specialty pediatric care, innova ve research and understanding teaching programs. In April 1973 the Board of Directors of the Interna onal Council officially recog-nized the Interna onal Associa on of Shrine Yacht Clubs “IASYC”. The IASYC body represents among its affiliated Shrine Temple Yacht Clubs the ambassadors of good will among the boa ng fraternity. Bektash Mariners Shrine Yacht Club was founded in March 2012, and Joined the IASYC in May that same year. BMSYC is an inner body providing good fellowship among members of Bektash Shrine who share an interest in boats, boa ng and kindred pleasures-such as skiing, fishing and cruising. Since its incep on the club has lived up to its Masonic principals and has grown in membership each year. During 2015, all summer mee ngs have been well a ended and held at water-front loca ons. Boat cruises have taken place as well. Meeting Minutes
The Bektash Mariners Shrine Yacht Club (BMSYC) met for their sum-mer meeting on June 25th. Attending Nobles and their Ladies gathered at the home of Noble Roger and Lady Robin Rist in Meredith, NH, over-looking Lake Winnisquam. • The meeting was called to order by Commodore Noble Jim Chase PP. • The Invocation was given by Ted Dooley PP, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance; • The Secretary’s report was accepted as it appeared in the most recent issue of the Bektash News; • The Treasurer’s report was read by Treasurer Noble Richard Melvin and accepted. • A moment of silence was observed due to the passing of Noble Walter Young and Noble George (Bob) Johnson. • IASYC Commodore Noble Ray Desrochers spoke on the growth in membership, the enthusiasm of the members as a result of the communi-cation with the Masonic family, and the need for all Nobles to become more involved with their local Masonic Lodge. • Commodore Jim introduced our Potentate, Ill sir Mark Simard, who performed the installation of Officers for 2017-2018 as follows:

The Officers were congratulated by a round of applause shown in their support. • Ill Sir Mark spoke of the importance of Club enthusiasm among mem-bers for the benefit of growth within the Club and membership develop-ment within the Shrine Temple. He also explained the importance of fund raising events to help support the Shriner’s Hospital for Children and the importance of supporting the Masonic Lodges since the future of our Shrine depends on the future of our Masonic Lodges. In closing, Ill Sir introduced his Lady Linda who is beside him in supporting every phase of his term as Potentate. • Commodore Jim discussed the BMSYC summer schedule of events with locations and dates as follows: July 16 - Dooley Yacht Club on Cobbett’s Pond in Windham August 16 - Winter Harbor Yacht Club on Lake Winnipesaukee September (date to follow) - Noble John Benham’s Yacht Club on Bear Island • The meeting was adjourned, and everyone enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by our Chef, Noble Roger Rist. SHRINE YACHT CLUB AT IMPERIAL SESSION 2017
At the most recent Imperial Session held in Dayto-na, a donation was presented to Imperial Sir Chris Smith, imperial Potentate 2016-2017 Shriners Im-perial, on behalf of the International Association of Shrine Yacht Clubs (IASYC) by Noble IASYC Commodore Raymond Desrochers of Bektash Temple, for the benefit of the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

At the IASYC annual Meeting in Daytona it was noted that IASYC currently have representation in the following Countries: US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, United Kingdom, and Germany, soon to be in the Philippines as well. Due to the continu-ing and consistent growth in membership, a new appointed position as Membership Chairman was established. A motion was made and passed to offer the new Membership Chairman a $5000.00 expense account to cover his expens-es while performing the task. Noble Raymond Desrochers PIC was elected to be the new Mem-bership Chairman. The enthusiasm has never been as high among the members as it was during this 143rd Imperial Session in July, 2017. IASYC is proud to be con-sidered the fastest growing Club in all of Shrinedom.

New Membership Referral Program Introduced I AM Committed Now RU
The three “R”s of membership development are recruitment – the successful creation of new members; retention – providing a pro-gram which keeps your current members active, engaged and in-volved; and restoration – restoring to active membership those mem-bers who have lost connection with the fraternity. These concepts are critical to the future success of our organizations.
As Shriners, we all have accountability to our fraternity. It becomes our responsibility to educate others about Shriners International, cre-ate more Shriners, recruit more Freemasons, and refer more patients to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Collaboration is essential, and we must all work together to promote successful and efficient member-ship processes.
Shriners International has developed a new approach to membership development, changing the membership paradigm with the introduc-tion of a new referral program. With this new referral functionality, current nobles can now directly refer names of friends, family mem-bers and acquaintances who they feel would make good Shriners. Similar to beashrinernow.com, this new referral program is

administered through WebFez and links the prospect with his refer-ring noble, promoting natural mentorship based on a pre-existing friendship or acquaintance. The new process can be tracked and re-ported, and each referral triggers automatic communications to the referrer and the prospect. Once a noble makes a referral, he then re-ceives tools and resources to mentor his prospect to creation or res-toration. The program encourages constant collaboration, so that everyone can share their Shrine with the good men around them.
A recommended part of the new program is the encouragement to host fellowship parties and rush events. Fellowship parties should be in a relaxed environment and have an open table/social concept, with no formalized membership presentation. These parties should be open to prospective members, but with no pressure for member-ship recruitment or restoration; and membership literature should be available upon request.
Rush events have an open house, social and educational concept, and are open to prospective members and their families. A multi-faceted presentation providing information on Shriners, Masonry and affiliated organizations is encouraged at these events, including information about temple clubs and units. Membership literature should also be provided to all attendees.
Our goal for each Imperial Year is less suspensions, less demits and more affiliations. The leadership of Shriners International has added the lofty goal of 12,000 new Creations from Session to Session. This goal is attainable if temples focus on matching and surpassing their own best number of creations in the last five years.
There are many resources available to help us reach our membership goals. Using the new WebFez referral system is the perfect place to start, and beashrinernow.com is still a great resource. There are also a lot of helpful tools on Shriners Village, including the Membership Toolkit, Roadmap to Membership Success, and Marketing Materials Ordering System. We also encourage everyone to work with their Regional Membership Director and the Office of Membership De-velopment, and to send your temple membership team to the annual Membership Seminar for invaluable tips and information.

1. Prior to either a Stated Mee ng or a Ceremonial, please get your pe ons in early so that there is enough me to process them.
2. All Pe ons have to be submi ed to the Bektash Office seven days prior to the mee ng.
3. A current copy of the applicant’s Masonic Blue Lodge card must be a ached to the pe on when it is submi ed.
4. All line items on the pe on must be complete and accurately filled out. If no informa on is listed either draw a line or write N/A.
5. Be sure to list the candidate’s hat or Fez size.
6. The Bektash Office will not accept faxed or emailed pe ons.
7. All Candidates must report to the designated mee ng place at the mes scheduled.

BEKTASH BINGO COMMITTEE
To the people that help us work bingo.
The Bingo Committee thanks you all for the hard work you have been doing. Some nights, we have ran short of help and people have been doing double and triple jobs. We just want to let you know that it is noticed and appreciated. We have had a few peo-ple out because of sickness and or injury we hope all are doing better.
This being said we can always use help. If you have some free time on a Thursday night come on down and join us. You don't have to be here every week or stay until Bingo closes. The Bin-go doors hall open at 4 pm and we are usually done by 9 to 9:15 ! There are various tasks we need help with: we have people that help on the floor calling back bingo cards, some call the Bingo games, others sell pull tabs or bingo games. We also have peo-ple working in the "back room" on the computer counting the money and setting up the games to be paid out. We can use help in any of these places. Don't worry if you do not think you can do it because we can train you!

Nobles, The Membership Committee still needs your help in attracting new members to Bektash. We would like to reinstitute the Ambassador Program or Liaison’s to all the Masonic Lodges in the state. We need someone in each Lodge to step forward and be our spokesperson. We will provide you with Shrine literature which hopefully you can put out in your Lodge. You can also ask the Master of your Lodge if he would like a member of the committee to come and speak for a few minutes. The Membership Committee is devoted to bringing new members to Masons and Shrine. We want all the lodges in the state to know that we are here to assist and support them. THE100MILLIONDOLLARCLUB The 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children have provided lifesaving and life-changing medical care to more than 800,000 children, regardless of their ability to pay. The money to provide these needed services at 22 hospitals comes from many sources: community donations; fundraising events; investment income; and support from the Shriners Inter-national. As health care costs increase, Shriners Hospitals needs your help, more than ever, to continue to provide more specialized care, offer medical education and conduct more research. Too many people believe that if they cannot donate or leave a large sum or money, their gift will not count. Every contribution helps. In order to encourage donors to contribute to Shriners Hospitals for Children, the HUNDRED MILLION DOLLAR CLUB was es-tablished in 1972. During the Shriners’ 2017 Imperial Session, Lawrence J. Specifically, the information we are asking for is: 1. Your Summer address. 2. Your Winter address. 3. The approximate departure dates when you anticipate mov-ing from the summer address to the winter address and back again. We need both dates.

Any child under 18 with a condition that can be treated at one of the Shriners Hospital for Children is eligible for care, regardless of the families’ ability to pay.
All care and services are delivered in a family-centered environment.
A few conditions that can be treated are; Orthopaedic problems, Club-foot, Hip Disorders, Limb Deficiencies & Deformities, Scoliosis, Cleft
Lip & Palate, Spinal Cord injuries and Burn injuries.
