Fantastically rare piece of Mississippian culture artistry. LargeBeaded Double-necklace similar to other large statues like Big Boyand others thought to have been converted into pipes later. Iconogra-phy of the Mississippi River Valley cultures with possible connectionto sites like Spiro Mounds in Oklahoma. Distinct ochre and naturalmineralization deposits. Circa 1300-1700 A.D.

Formerly of the Robert A. Whitebird (Waz-hing-ka) Collection - oneof the last four pureblood Quapaw Indians and tribal spiritual leader,Board Member of National Congress of American Indians and head ofQuapaw Tribal Business Committee since 1956. This example has been documented by the Smithsonian Institution’sBureau of American Ethnology, and authenticated by Roy Motley andfamed Stoetzer Lab of Miami, Florida. Stoetzer is known for examiningthis type of large statuary, particularly large Pre-Columbian ‘StandardBearers’.
