JCE Reviewer Award 2013

Each year, at our annual journal retreat, we review the nom-

inations we receive for our JCE Reviewer of the Year Award

from our editorial offices. We use the following criteria to

evaluate our nominations: the quality of the delivered reviews

(both critical and constructive, and constructing and suggest-

ing essential points without forgetting relevant details), re-

sponding on time, and being available for reviews when

invited. Based on nominations from the two editorial offices,

two outstanding reviewerswere identified to receive the 2013

JCE Reviewer Award: Krista Huybrechts and Tim Croudace.

A more specific description of the achievements of Krista F.

Huybrechts and Tim J. Croudace is presented below. Con-

gratulations to Krista and Tim.

Krista F. Huybrechts, MS, PhD

Dr. Huybrechts is an Instructor in

Medicine at Harvard Medical School

and a pharmacoepidemiologist in theDi-

vision of Pharmacoepidemiology and

Pharmacoeconomics at the Brigham

and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Huybrechts’

research centers on studying the utiliza-

tion and outcomes of psychoactive med-

ications, with particular reference to vulnerable populations,

such as the frail, elderly, or pregnant women. She has been

chosen for the Reviewer’s Award based on the quality of re-

views for JCE. Her reviewer comments were extremely well

structured, thoughtful, and clear. The comments provided the

authors with objective and specific suggestions that allowed

the authors to improve the quality and readability of manu-

scripts for the practicing clinical epidemiologist.

Tim J. Croudace, BSc (Hons), Dip App Psych,MSc, PhD

Professor Tim Croudace is a quanti-

tative social scientist, mental health

services researcher, and health technol-

ogy assessment specialist in the De-

partment of Health Sciences at the

University of York and Hull York Med-

ical School where he holds the position

of Chair in Psychometric Epidemiol-

ogy. With a background in experimen-

tal and applied psychology as well as health research and

psychiatric epidemiology, he contributes to a diverse range

of methodologically influenced work on measuring health

and evaluation using latent variable modeling and applied

psychometrics (multidimensional item response theory

and general latent variable structural equation models), as

well as systematic reviews and randomized controlled trials

(inc. cluster RCTs). He particularly enjoys the psychomet-

rically influenced contributions to the Journal, where he

has interests and extensive experience in the range of

analytical models applied to clinical constructs related to

mental health and subjective well-being assessments, in-

cluding the emergence of item banking and adaptive testing

methods for potential measurement of patient-reported out-

comes and other areas.
