4th Grade Newsletter September 19-23
Looki ng Back at Last Week:
Reading – The students practiced summarizing, sequencing, and identifying point of view of fictiona l texts.
Writing – The students practiced their writing strategies, capitalization and punctuation.
Language Arts – The students edited a nonfiction text, focusing on capitalization errors, using the CU PS strategy.
Math – The students compared and ordered decimals and related decimal numbers to fractions.
Social Studies – The students learned about Native American Tribes.

Math: - Fact Fluency Log (Monday-Friday) – All facts 2-9.o Fast Facts Quiz this week is on Wednesday. They will have 3 minutes to
answer 15 basic facts.
- Monday-Thursday: Math worksheeto Monday – Spiral Review
o Tuesday –pg. 65 and 67 over decimal number lines
o Wednesday – Spiral Review
o Thursday – pg. 10 over place value relationships
** Please do NOT work ahead! It is important for students to have daily practice.
Reading:
Writing: Spelling (list is attached below)
- Monday: Put your words in alphabetical order.- Tuesday: Write your words 3 times each.- Wednesday: Use the first 10 words in a complete sentence.- Thursday: #11-20 words in a complete sentence.
- Monday-Friday: Read for 20 minutes & get a parent’s signature on the Reading Log.
- Monday and Wednesday: Reader’s Response over what they read. Follow the guidelines for writing a response. Use BME for nonfiction texts. Use SWBST for
fiction texts. (See attached anchor charts for examples.)- Tuesday and Thursday: Reading Menu
