Candidates will NOT be permitted to enter the examination room if arrival time is after the initial examination check-in process has been completed or after the time allotment has expired for a lunch break. In order for the candidate to be rescheduled for an examination, the reschedule fee must be submitted. Candidates that are absent on their scheduled examination date or cannot be admitted to the examination will have their examination fee forfeited. To be rescheduled for an examination, the reschedule fee must be submitted. Examination fees are non-refundable. Personal items such as purses, coats, hats, scarves, cell phones, Smart watches, cameras, tablets, or other electronic devices are not permitted in examination rooms. Secure lockers are available in the lobby area and must be used to store personal items. Exam Center Infection Control Guidelines: An appropriate disinfectant is required to be used during the examination. Candidates must follow all appropriate infection control and public protection procedures during all phases of the examination. In the event of a blood spill candidates will be expected to follow the appropriate Blood Spill procedure. For objects that come in contact with intact skin, the appropriate disinfectant would be an environmental protection agency (EPA) registered, hospital grade bactericidal (esp. pseudomonacidal), virucidal, and fungicidal (quanternary ammonium compound - "quat") that is mixed and used according to the manufacturer's directions. For objects that come in contact with bodily fluids or blood, an appropriate disinfectant would include an EPA disinfectant registered as effective against "HIV/HBV". NOTE: Disinfectant used for the examination should meet both guidelines. Manufacturer’s labels are required on all disinfectants, hand sanitizers, and liquid hand soap. Labels must be original or photocopied originals. (Hand written or typed labels are NOT acceptable). Testing Information Packet (TIP) Barber Practical

Examination Admittance Information: Candidates are required to present one (1) of the following forms of government-issued, current, valid photo identification:

Failure to comply will result in the candidate for examination being required to reschedule examination date.

Requirements for Examination Model(s) and Haircut

Each applicant is permitted only one (1) model for the examination. Models must arrive with candidate at the scheduled examination time. Examination is timed and time will not be held in order for an applicant to find a suitable model on the day of examination.

NOTE: Pre-approval by the Board is required if the use of two (2) models is needed.

Models are required to have enough hair to be given a medium tapered haircut. Each model will be evaluated by the examiner on both hair and beard prior to the start of the examination. Models must meet all six (6) standards below to be approved for use.

1. Models must have visible hair on the face; enough hair on the face that the stubble can be felt when rubbing a hand across

2. Models cannot have thinning hair at the crown or a receding hairline in the top front.

3. Models who have been pre-cut or pre-tapered will not be permitted.

4. All models, regardless of ethnicity, must have AT LEAST 2 INCHES of hair measured at the crown and back of head.Hair in crown head will be measured at the APEX; hair on the back of the head will be measured at the OCCIPITAL BONE.

5. All models must have at least 1/2 inch of hair measured at the NAPE of the neck.

6. Hair must be touching or over the ear.

If the six (6) minimum standards specified above are not met, the model will be rejected. If the model is rejected the applicant will be required to reschedule for the next available examination date. NOTE: Decision by examiner is final.

Finished Haircut Expectations: During the exam, at least ½” inch of hair must be removed. The finished haircut should be no shorter than one-inch in the Apex, Parietal, and Occipital areas. The bottom of the neckline (Nape) should be tapered with no visible line across the bottom. The area around the ears should be outlined, tapered, and blended into the sides and top to create a well-balanced medium tapered haircut.

NOTE:

Blocks, fades, bald fades, temper-fades, high and tights, or flat top are not permitted.

T-edger's, outliners, and clippers may be used in performing the tapered haircut; however, the straight razor is requiredto be used for the ear outline and neck shave.

Changing attachments or clipper blades are not permitted.

Barber Practical ExaminationSET UP (20 MINUTES)

Verbal Instructions: Following all infection control and safety guidelines, you will set up all of the supplies that will be used for the practical portion of your exam. You have 20 minutes for your set up procedure and you will be informed when you have 10 and 5 minutes remaining.

HONING and STROPPING (NOT TIMED)

Verbal Instructions: You will now perform the Honing and Stropping portion of this exam. Each candidate will be instructed individually to perform this portion of this exam. When your station number is called, you will proceed to the Honing and Stropping station. You will be instructed to demonstrate the procedure at that time. When you hear the examiner say thank you that is your indication to return the razor to the examiner in a safe manner and then return to your work station.

ROLLING CREAM FACIAL (25 Minutes)4.

Verbal Instructions: You will now perform the Rolling Cream Facial portion of this exam. You will have 10 minutes to complete the rolling cream facial procedure. You will be informed when you have 5 minutes remaining.Once evaluated you will be given 15 minutes to apply your massage cream and complete the scientific rest facial manipulations. Upon completion return model to seated position with chair cloth drape in models lap. This will indicate that you are ready for the final evaluation. This procedure is 15 minutes and you will be informed when you have 5 minutes remaining.

5. MEDIUM TAPER HAIRCUT (45 Minutes)

Verbal Instructions: You will now perform the Medium Taper Haircut portion of this exam. You will complete a blended, tapered haircut using clippers, shears, and comb. You will remove a minimum of 1/2" of hair throughout the haircut. Upon completion of the haircut turn chair with model facing the mirror with chair cloth draped across model's lap. Proceed to sweep the hair from floor and then return to station and stand behind model. This will indicate to the examiner that you are finished. This procedure is 45 minutes and you will be informed when you have 10 and 5 minutes remaining.

Verbal Instructions: You will now perform the Scientific Scalp Massage portion of this exam. You will complete the four (4) scientific scalp massage movements for this procedure. Upon completion remove hands from model and stand behind chair. You will be given 5 minutes for this procedure.
