In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions

of real media products?

My magazine uses aspects from current magazines these things are:

∙I have a mast head in my magazine which almost all magazine have anyway.

∙I have a logo paired with the masthead. ∙I have created and used a contents page which almost all

magazine have.

Page 3: Terri leigh jennings

∙Other aspects of my magazine that are similar to existing magazines is the fact that I have a house style. The colours and fonts remain the same throughout my magazine, making it more professional.∙The fact that I have used photos in my magazine makes it similar to other magazines.∙

The logo is a set of headphones which relates to the musical theme of my magazine.

I have used the same colour scheme of, black red and white, throughout the magazine.

I got this idea from Kerrang and NME who use the same yellow and black colour scheme.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The people in my magazine are portrayed as independent and well behaved. The main

interview in my magazine is a 17year old girl which makes her age fit in with what my

magazine is aimed to be at.

Naomi Robinson

Was the artist in my magazine’s main interview and she came across as a down to earth, well

behaved girl. She would be a good role model for young

people.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

If I was to look for a publisher for my magazine then the first place I would start looking is the publishers of

magazine similar to mine, such as Kerrang and NMEKerrang publisher: Bauer Consumer Media

NME publisher: Faith Hill

Page 8: Terri leigh jennings

Online distributersMy magazine will be solely a online magazine so I will have to research into online

publishers.

Virtual Paper is a digital publishing specialist who turns your ‘paper collateral’ into online web pages.

A lot of online magazines such as ‘The Buzz’ do not have online distributors and manage the magazine by

themselves with the public participating in articles.

My magazine would probably follow along these lines.

Page 9: Terri leigh jennings

Who would be the audience for your media product?

I have tried to aim my magazine at people between the ages of 14 and 20years old.

This is because when I did research people aged between 14-20 were the majority of people who filled out my

questionnaire.

Also, I am in this age range so therefore I can relate with my audience better.

How did you attract your audience?

To attract my audience of my magazine I used colours that both male and female can relate too. Also, the

masthead ‘Off the record’ is very relatable because it’s simple and straight to the point.

I also used images that stood out and fit the colour scheme of the magazine. This would attract the

audiences eye and interested them enough to read.

Page 11: Terri leigh jennings

How did you address your audience?

I used simpler language then if I was aiming at a older audience making my magazine easy to

read and understand.I also spoke to the audience as if they were a

normal, down to earth person, so the magazine does not come across snobby or stuck up.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I learnt many new techniques things making this magazine. For example before I could start making or planning my magazine

now, I had to research many other magazines and make a mock magazine for a completely different subject just to get the hang of making a magazine. I made a magazine about environmental

problems.

Page 13: Terri leigh jennings

I also learnt how to use a blogging site. I learnt how to edit a blog to make the entry look how I wanted and to present my work to look the best.

Page 14: Terri leigh jennings

I also had to analyse existing magazines’ contents pages, front covers and double page spreads as these were the pages I had to create. Analysing these existing magazines gave me a good insight

into what makes a good magazine such as: Kerrang, NME and Q magazine.

Programs used

I used new programs that I haven’t used before with this project for example Fireworks. I had to edit photos to remove faults and imperfections to ensure that my magazine would be of the best quality.I also used publisher which I haven't used in great depth before. I learnt how to create my magazine in this program and make it look good.

Page 17: Terri leigh jennings

∙ I have learnt how to edit photos, and this will be a very useful task to take on into the future.∙I have learnt how to create a product on Microsoft publisher which is also a very useful skill.∙I have got to term with using an online blog and using HTML codes and imageshack. ∙I have also learnt how to address the public and get useful feedback from them.∙I have learnt how to plan a project and then follow it through and meet my targets.
