New Furniture Students are enjoying using the furniture that has been donated by the P&C. Here are some photos of Miresha and Mrs Payne using the tables, sitting and standing .

2-6 Class News

After a busy week last week, this week we have settled back into school routines. The children have been doing some follow up activities from our excursion, including writing tasks, reciprocal reading tasks on seals and discussions on these topics. Summarising information has been the focus of these tasks.

In maths we have been using tally tables to collect data and look at what the data is telling us. The students have really enjoyed these activities.

We have been reading a story by Elaine Russell – A is for Aunty and were excited when a group of elders from Tamworth travelled down to visit us on Tuesday and we discovered that one of the lovely ladies was the daughter of the main character described in the book. She was very happy that we were reading this book. The children loved discussing the author’s intent and making connections with the story and their lives.

Yesterday, a letter went home highlighting some safety concerns for the students. Please be sure

to read the red note.

Reports will be sent home at the end of

Week Ten

K- 5 Top Classroom News

Wow! What an exciting fortnight it has been at school in the top classroom!

K-2 have continued reading fluently and listening to fabulous Dr Seuss books like The Cat In The Hat, The Cat In The Hat Comes Back and The Foot Book. We identified and wrote our own rhyming words. In spelling, Kindergarten is focusing on the ad, ed, id, od, ud, am, em, im, om and um rhyming words. Year 1 is learning about words starting with sp and st. Year 2 is writing the oo and ew words.

In Mathematics we are getting faster at our skip counting patterns, grouping, sharing and naming 2D shapes. We collected data, created graphs and analysed the distances of our straw throws in metres.

Last week featured a sea theme and the K-5 students at school had an awesome time. We were amazed by the fascinating facts discovered while researching, drafting and publishing our marine animal reports. We enjoyed playing rhythms during The William Tell stick game. Our art depicted scenes from Bulwai Story – A Great Flood. Many sea creatures, including sharks, dolphins, whales, seahorses, turtles and sea snakes now look down into the room due to our craft creations. On Thursday we practised our tennis and had fun making and eating our own yummy pizzas for pantry. We shared breakfast together on Friday. During the second break we blew and chased bubbles and played with hoops. It was a fun filled week!

Walhallow Public School’s trip to QLD - the Gold Coast

Jahmeika Last tuesday

Last Tuesday we went to Queensland, the Gold Coast. We took a bus to the Gold Coast and when we got to Werris Creek we picked up a sausage dog and named her Willow, but unfortunately when we arrived at QLD we had to give Willow to her owners, it was sad. When we arrived at our hotel we put all our luggage in our cabins (we had 4 cabins) and we met a man called Rhys. We had roast beef for dinner and then went rock climbing. I was scared at first but I finally made it to the top and overcame my fear of heights. Marco and his friend Laurie unclipped us and put on music. Then we went to bed.

Last WedNesday

Then the next day, we went to Sea World. First, we went to see the seal show (called THE SEAL GUARDIANS). Secondly, we went on a ride (called MRS PUFF’S DRIVING SCHOOL). Thirdly, we went on SpongeBob’s mini rollercoaster. We went on it 2 times. Fourthly, we went on a rollercoaster (called JET RESCUE). Then we had some hot chips and went on DORA’S MERRY GO ROUND. Then we had pizza and went on the wet ride and climbed this playground called SKY FOREST. We went to the dolphin show and went to see the penguins, polar bears, sharks and sting rays. Then we went to the gift shop and I bought a penguin and named him Winkey but before that we went and saw Liam and the boys ride jet skis. Then we got dressed to go to OUTBACK SPECTACULAR. We had so much fun but I didn’t like the food and Bluey was my favourite character. Then we went back to the hotel and went to bed.

Last tHuRsday

On Thursday we got introduced to Francoise. Then we got out of our cabins and went to breakfast. We had pancakes. Then we went to this culture centre called Jellurgal. We went on a walk and all of us were surprised by the ochre. Then we went to the beach and I found heaps of shells. Then we got dressed to go to Surfers Paradise and met Mrs Davis’s friend Alison. Then we went to McDonalds and got sundaes and Miss Allan and I were laughing because Chris tripped over the step and I thought it was Adam and Chris was laughing too. Then we got a photo with Police Officers. We got on the bus, went to our cabins and went to sleep but before Surfers Paradise Jada, Briseis, Callum, Jalii, Nyree, Curtis and I went on the giant swing and Miss Allan was laughing at me because I made a funny face.

Last FRIday

On Friday we jumped out of bed and had breakfast and sadly had to go home!!!

Ingredients

• 1 thin 23cm pizza base (dinner plate size) • 2 tbs salt-reduced tomato paste • 1 cup (30g) baby spinach leaves • ½ large red onion, peeled, finely sliced and separate • 100g cooked or BBQ chicken breast, thinly sliced • ½ small red capsicum, seeded and sliced into thin strips • 6 large cherry tomatoes, halved • ½ cup grated reduced-fat mozzarella cheese • Basil leaves, to serve.99

Preheat oven to 220OC (200OC fan-forced). Spread tomato paste evenly over pizza base. Top with spinach leaves, sliced onion, chicken, capsicum strips and cherry tomatoes. Sprinkle with cheese and place on a baking tray, pizza stone or wire rack. Bake for 5 minutes until cheese is melted then cover with foil to prevent burning. Bake for a further 5 minutes until base in crisp. Sprinkle with roughly torn basil leaves on top to serve.

Hint: Use mini bases, pita or wholegrain English muffins for individual pizzas.

Variation: For a Mediterranean chicken pizza, add drained fat-free sundried tomatoes, fat-free marinated artichokes and eggplant.
