Original Equipment Ride Control
CES is a semi-active suspension system that continu-ously adjusts damping levels according to road anddriving conditions. At the heart of the CES is an advanced valve system, developed with Öhlins Racing. The valves – integrated with an electronic controllerand chassis sensors – work together to deliver the most advanced damping characteristics.
Our Acceleration Sensitive Damping (ASD) shock absorber solves the challenge of delivering both a soft, comfortable ride and firm vehicle handling. The award-winning ASDtechnology is a mechanical valve system that instantaneously changes damping force to adjust vehicle ride to bumps and changes in the road surface.
Frequency Dependent Damping is a next generationshock absorber. It is environmentally friendly – uses no oil – and minimizes the compromise between rideand handling. A frequency dependent damping shockabsorber can be mounted in any position and has amore consistent damping performance over a widerange of temperatures.
13
CES was first commercialized on the 2003 Volvo S60R and V70R performance vehicles offering sport car handling with luxury sedan comfort.
12
The innovation of ASD has eliminated compromise –vehicles are tuned for handling without increasing harshness.
Tenneco’s elastomer capabilities include mold bonded bushings, mechanically bonded bushings, mounts and exhaust isolators.
Our elastomer compound formulations and custom exhaust hanger designsimprove isolation and durability across the entire exhaust system.
Tenneco is known around the globe for its completerange of high-quality ride control products and systems. We are leaders in designing and manufacturing:

Technology and ProductsTenneco is a leader in commercializing ride control technologies that respond to customer and consumertechnical demands. These technologies include load leveling, roll stiffness adjustment, active and semi-active ride control, wheel hop damping and control, and yaw control.
The Continuously Controlled Electronic Suspension (CES)responds to customer demand for a suspension systemthat differentiates vehicles by providing superior vehicle handling without compromising ride comfort.
We are experts in combining related technologies and components in modules and systems including
the integration work to design a complete shock module.
Monotube shock absorbers – single tube high-pressure
gas shocks – offer enhanced vehicle stability and handling with design features that
provide more mounting options and higher damping levelscompared with similar sized twin tube shocks.
The MAD (Micro-Amplitude Damping)technology is a position sensitive
hydraulic circuit designed to eliminate the energy transfercaused by tire imbalances. This circuit is engineered to directly react to the displacement of the shockabsorber.
Our hydroelastic body mounts arecapable of producing very highdamping at one frequency.
Kinetic®Suspension Systems use technology that improves vehicle stability, handling and ride comfort and
helps reduce the risk of vehicle roll-over.

Tenneco is well-positioned to grow globally.Tenneco is capturing opportunities in rapidly expand-ing markets like China, India, Russia and Brazil.
Tenneco is the #1 exhaust supplier in China, where we entered the market in 1995. In 2006, we opened ourfirst wholly-owned Tenneco facility in Suzhou,China – improving our global position for elastomeroperations. We then opened the Shanghai TennecoResearch and Development Center in mid 2007.
Our growing operations in Central and Eastern Europeinclude plants in Poland, Czech Republic and Russia(where Tenneco opened its second emission controlfacility — St. Petersburg in 2007). These efficient, cost-effective facilities handle an increasing number of our new vehicle launches in Europe as our customers shift more of their operations eastward.
Growing Globally
Strategies Aligned for GrowthTenneco’s three main strategic imperatives make up the backbone of who we are. First, we invest in growing markets with proprietary technologies through our six key strategic growth areas:
• Emission control technologies to meet tightening environmental mandates.
• Advanced technology for ride control performance and safety.
• Adjacent markets for new revenue opportunities.
• BRIC markets for rapid growth.
• Expanding business with growth OEMs, enhancing our customer mix.
• Aftermarket service products to drive incremental sales.
In addition, we continuously advance our operational excellence. Through low cost country(LCC) strategies and improving on our Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma processes, wecan better optimize our global footprint.
Finally, we are committed to improving our financial strength by lowering our net debt toadjusted EBITDA ratio and capitalizing on our EVA (economic value added) discipline.
In short, Tenneco has the right technologies, at the right time and in the right places — makingthe world cleaner, quieter, smoother and safer.
