    Annexure-I

    Technical Specifications for Triaxial System for Rock Properties.

    General conditions:

    Under the scientific deep drilling programme in Koyna region funded by MoES, Govt.

    of India, we are going to purchase a tri-axial system for rock physical and mechanical

    testing. The main purpose of establishing this facility is to study the physical and

    mechanical properties of the rock samples under high temperature conditions that

    simulates the in-situ conditions of the seismogenic depth at the laboratory for better

    understanding of the earthquake processes, fault strength and deformation

    mechanism.

    Instrument must fulfill the following conditions:

    1) Facility to test unconfined compressive strength and indirect tensile strength

    under ambient and high temperature conditions.

    2) Facility of ultrasonic velocity measurement (both compressional (P) and shear

    wave (Sh&Sv)) and acoustic emission testing under different temperature and

    pressure conditions.

    3) Include the required tubing for BQ, NQ and HQ size samples.

    4) Include a set of LVDT for measuring axial strain and a circumferential roller

    assembly and LVDT holder to measure circumferential strain with the facility to

    hold samples of BQ, NQ and HQ sizes. LVDTS should be operable under high

    temperature and pressure conditions.

    5) Include the software packages and computer system for real time analysis of

    the data.

    6) Automatic calculation of measured parameters, facility of different kinds of

    plotting (linear, log, semi log, exponential etc.) and facility to convert data to

    desirable formats and quick transfer facility to other system.

    7) Software for measurement of ultrasonic velocity with the facility of waveform

    stacking, filtering and power spectra analysis.

    8) Software must have the facility for real time analysis of acoustic emission

    testing, full waveform analysis and processing.

    Technical specifications of the instrument:

    1) Sample type: Cylindrical rock sample.

    2) Sample Sizes: HQ (63.5 mm dia), NQ (47.6 mm dia) and BQ (36.5 mm dia)

    3) Load frame type: Four column construction

    4) Load frame stiffness: ~10 MN/mm

    5) Axial load : Up to 4500kN

    6) Stroke of the actuator: 100 mm or more

    7) Confining pressure: up to 210 MPa

    8) Pore pressure: up to 150 MPa

    9) Type of Pressure intensifier: Double acting system

    10) Resolution of cell and pore pressure intensifier: 0.005MPa or less

    11) Temperature range: up to 200C

    12) Temperature sensors: Two external and two internal

    13) Cooling system: Water cooled system

    14) Strain measurements: through LVDTS. One pair for axial strain and LVDT with

    circumferential roller assembly for radial strain with the facility to hold samples

    of diameter in the range 35mm to 85mm.

    15) Maximum measuring range of LVTD: ~10mm with resolution of 0.001mm.

    16) Frequency of transducers required for ultrasonic velocity and acoustic emission

    testing: ~1MHz

    17) Number of transducers required in the platen for acoustic emission (AE) testing:

    at least 12 sensors to record AE signals coming from all directions.

    18) Company/Factory training for laboratory testing.

    19) Supply and Installation at Karad, Maharashtra (India).

    20) Spares and accessories: A list of optional spares and accessories including

    permeability testing (optional) may be provided in the quote. These will be

    decided on need-basis but will not count in the bid evaluation criteria.
