Happy September PQs! Today, Sunday, 09-08-19 I had the opportunity to volunteer along with my church with an organization called Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Their mission which, started in MN with just one bunk bed is to ensure that no child sleeps on the floor and has a bed of their own. Honestly, I was stunned by the number of children around the country and here in our local area that do not have a decent bed of their own. We sanded, nailed and finished the parts to make 30 beds. Donations were made for the mattress, pillows and linens. It was one of the most humbling and satisfying experiences I have had in a long time. Certainty reminded me to be more grateful for the basics of life and of how blessed I truly am! I share this with you, because as a quilter, the first thing I thought of was how wonderful it would be make and donate twin size quilts to this organization and continue to give back locally. Looks like as part of my personal challenge to use up fabric, I am going to make some twin size quilts and donate them. I love trying out new patterns and what a great way to do both! 2019 President’s Message (Robin VanScoy)

Soon, I know the temperature will get cooler soon! Happy September PQs! Their mission which, started in MN with just one bunk bed is to ensure that no child sleeps on the floor and has a bed of their own. (Cont’d, President Message) Our next PQ meeting is Thursday, 09-19-19. Since we have not met over the summer, it might be a little busy with announcements etc. I have asked the Board and Committee members to be brief and more informative in the newsletter so be sure to read the whole thing so that you have all the info you need related to the upcoming mystery quilt day, retreat, programs etc.

We are trying something new with our speaker this month by having a mini workshop for all to participate during the meeting. There is a kit that you will need and the cost is only $5 which we will take at the door as you come in. Once we get started and all are working on our little project with confidence, then we will hold Show & Tell while we work, as I know many of you have been busy and excited to share!

Special thanks to SueAnn Suderman who secured the facility for our Summer Sit-n-Sew even though she was not able to attend! The room is wonderful for sewing and we all had a great day catching up with each other! In addition, thank you to Jill Voyles who has volunteered to be our 2021 Opportunity Quilt Mom and is pulling together ideas to get us started on the next quilt! Looking forward to seeing you all at our meeting!! Read further for any additional instructions on what you may need to bring, announcements and other info! May you always sleep well under a quilt made with love!

Hello ladies! Thank you all for the donations made at the sit and sew. There were lots! I got so many hearts and the hospitals always need them so they will be thrilled. I will be making donations to both hospitals and Clothes to kids after our next meeting. Please remember to bring your item for the sock/underwear drive for the kids. See you all soon.

Programs (Stephanie Sheppa)

September Program (Thursday, September 19th, 7 pm)

Learn the stunning art of Japanese Sashiko stitching with Jennifer Lee of Red Thread Studio. Sashiko (sa-she-ko) meaning “little stabs” is a tradition Japanese sewing method that uses evenly spaced basic running stitches to create eye catching geometric patterns. Jennifer will share the rich history of this Japanese technique and how it applies to a range of useful and ornamental items for your home, accessories and gifts. In addition, Jennifer will conduct a mini-class on “how to” stitch Sashiko. The class includes a kit with special fabric, thread & needle so each of us can experience this stitching method. The Sashiko Kit is $5 and payable directly to Red Thread Studio. Kit fee will be collected at the door if you plan to participate. Don’t forget to bring a pair of scissors. Also, Jennifer will have a Pop-Up Shop for us with wares from her studio. Here’s the link to her website https://redthreadstudio.com/ make sure you check out her blog. She also has a FaceBook page.
