Prepositions are words that describe a relationship between other words in a sentence. In other words, they link words in a sentence.

Some examples:

On, over, in, to, above, across,

between, out, onto, for, down, from,

underneath, up, outside, with,

like, of, etc…

They usually indicate the temporal (time), spatial (space) and logical relationship of the object you are

talking about to the rest of the sentence.

The book is on the table. The book is beneath the table. The book is beside the table. She held the book over the table.

Alicia puts the hat on John.

In Spanish they do the same thing.
