God’s PEACE Beats Out Worry! And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. [Ephesians 6:15]

Conflict makes you an easy target for Satan’s attacks. It doesn’t matter if your conflict is with

God, other people, or even yourself; it will open the door for Satan to tear you apart.

You’ll become a pushover for his plans. It’ll open up every area of your life to Satan’s

attacks.

You don’t want that. It’s why the doomsday scenario for many countries is facing wars on

multiple fronts. If you’re fighting yourself, others, or God, you can’t fight against what Satan is

doing in the world. You can’t fight a multi-front war effectively. You were never meant to do so.

All levels of conflict leave your flailing for support and searching for a firm footing, as if

you’re being sucked into quicksand.

That’s why Paul urges believers, and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.

(Ephesians 6:15).

Roman soldiers had hobnails on the bottom of their shoes. These little nails helped them get

a better grip with their shoes, like cleats for football players. Without them, soldiers would slip

and slide in battle. They wouldn’t be able to hold their ground.

Without putting on the “peace that comes from the Good News,” you too will slip and slide

your way through life. Paul is writing about three different aspects of peace: with yourself, with

others, and with God. It’s called reconciliation, and you need it in all areas of your life. If you

wake up each morning at peace with yourself, God, and others, you’ll find yourself on strong

footing. You’ll be able to stand strong against the attacks of Satan.

Satan tries to attack your peace through worry. We can worry about anything. We can worry

about our future. We can worry about finances. We can worry about relationships. Often, we

worry about what others think of us. When we worry, it means some area of relational peace is out

of whack. In fact, most of the time it means we’re out of whack in each of those areas.

And it means you’re shoeless — and not letting the peace of God’s Word take control.

The Bible says,Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

(Psalm 119:165). In other words, the more I love and obey the Bible, the less I’m offended by

what others say. The more I love God’s Word, the less I’m offended by what happens to me. The

more I love God’s Word, the less my walk with God will be disturbed.

Choose to believe what God’s Word says about you, about others, and, most importantly,

about God. Choose to believe because obeying God’s Word brings you peace. Choose to believe

because Jesus did. Choose to believe because what God’s Word says about you and the world

around you is true.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally,

and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. - James 1:5

PROVERBS 3:5-14

MINISTER: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart;

and lean not unto thine own

understanding. In all thy ways

acknowledge Him, and He shall direct

thy paths.

CONGREGATION: Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the

LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be

health to thy navel, and marrow to thy

bones..

MINISTER: Honour the LORD with thy substance,

and with the firstfruits of all thine

increase: So shall thy barns be filled

with plenty, and thy presses shall burst

out with new wine.

CONGREGATION: My son, despise not the chastening of the

LORD; neither be weary of His

correction: For whom the LORD loveth

He correcteth; even as a father the son in

whom he delighteth.

ALL: Happy is the man that findeth wisdom,

and the man that getteth understanding.

For the merchandise of it is better than

the merchandise of silver, and the gain

thereof than fine gold.

Pastor Toney’s Corner

How’s Your Love Life?

That line will usually get people to stop and listen…for a few minutes but

most of the time it’s talking about some kind of worldly or physical love.

There is no greater love than Gods Love, For God so loved the world, that

He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not

perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). And when we begin to grow in

our walk with the Lord, the world should begin to see God’s love through us.

On the night Jesus was betrayed He said to His disciples A new

commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved

you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my

disciples, if ye have love one to another (John 13:34-35). Notice that Jesus

did not say here is a suggestion; but, He said “A NEW

COMMANDMENT!”

Our family, friends, and coworkers will know we are Christians by our

Love. The way we love other people is also an indicator of how closely we

are walking with The Lord. When Jesus asks which is the great

commandment of the law, Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy

God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is

the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt

love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law

and the prophets (Matthew 22:37-40). One of the greatest human needs is

love. God knows this because He created us for a relationship in His own

image and likeness. God desires intimacy and to enjoy this intimacy we

must come to Him with everything — our fears, faults, failures, and shame

so that He can love, forgive, and restore us. So stop trying to hide from

GOD. Go to HIM! Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not

unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge

Him, and He shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Now, let me ask again, how’s your

love life? Are you reflecting the love of

God? God cares about every detail of

your life, so INVEST time with Him

daily and develop a better LOVE life

with God, family, and those around you.

This Week in Black History…

Sylvia Moy…

Sylvia Moy’s name might not be familiar to those outside

the music industry, but her creations have certainly lasted the

test of time. Ms. Moy was part of the Motown creative team

responsible for making Stevie Wonder a star and wrote songs

for some of the legendary label’s most celebrated acts.

Moy, born in 1939, was raised in northeastern Detroit with eight brothers and

sisters. The siblings amused themselves with pots and pans in the home, setting

the early tone for Moy’s musical career. At school, Moy became adept at

classical and jazz ahead of her stint at Motown Records.

While at Motown, Moy was the first woman at the label to be named a record

producer and she held sway in other ways as well. According to Berry Gordy’s

autobiography To Be Loved, the mogul wanted to drop Wonder from the label as

his voice began changing due to puberty. Moy convinced Gordy to keep

Wonder on the label but only if she could craft a hit song for him.

One of the early hits Moy wrote was 1965’s Uptight (Everything’s Alright),

which did well for Wonder. But it was the 1969 hit My Cherie Amour that took

off and was one of the earliest works he received writing credit on. Moy also

helped write I Was Made To Love Her and Never Had A Dream Come True as

well. Moy wrote for the Isley Brothers and co-wrote Marvin Gaye and Kim

Weston’s classic duet It Takes Two alongside Mickey Stevenson.

Beyond songs for Motown, Moy also wrote the themes to hit television

shows Blossom, The Wonder Years and Growing Pains. She created music for

films like Mr. Holland’s Opus, Dead Presidents, and It Takes Two. Ms. Moy

has been nominated for six Grammy Awards and has 20 BMI awards.

In 1974, Moy co-founded the Center for Creative Communications, also

known as Masterworks, which trains young people in telecommunications and

media arts.

Ms. Moy, who is still active in music behind the scenes, was inducted into

the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006.

To Our Health…2015 (Commit To Be Fit) SEPTEMBER National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Thought for the Week

A journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step. (Laozi, Chinese Philosopher)

NATIONAL CHILDHOOD OBESITY MONTH One in 3 children in the United States is overweight or obese. Childhood obesity puts children at risk for health problems that were once seen only in adults, like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

The good news is that childhood obesity can be prevented. In honor of National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, the New Unity Baptist Church Health Ministry encourages your family to make healthy changes together.

Get active outside: Walk around the neighborhood, go on a bike ride, or play basketball at the park.

Limit screen time: Keep screen time (time spent on the computer, watching TV, or playing video games) to 2 hours or less a day.

Make healthy meals: Buy and serve more vegetables, fruits, and whole-grain foods. Rehab your favorite recipes to make them healthier.

Attending the Monday exercise class can help get you off to a great start!

Taking small steps as a family can help your child stay at a healthy weight.
