GLI AFFRESCHI SONO COMPOSTI
DA STRATI
•IL PRIMO STRATO DI UN AFFRESCO E’ COSTITUITO DA
CALCE DISTRIBUITA SOPRA UN SUPPORTO COME AD
ESEMPIO UNA PARETE DI MATTONI IN UNA CHIESA.
•QUESTO PRIMO STRATO, DETTO ARRICCIO, E’ FORMATO
DA UNA MISCELA DI CALCE, Ca(OH)2, E GROSSE
PARTICELLE DI SABBIA IN UN RAPPORTO DI UNA PARTE
DI CALCE (DETTA GRASSELLO) OGNI TRE DI SABBIA.
GLI AFFRESCHI SONO COMPOSTI
DA STRATI
•DOPO L’INDURIMENTO DEL PRIMO STRATO DOVUTO ALLA
CARBONATAZIONE DEL GRASSELLO VIENE DEPOSITATO UN
SECONDO STRATO DETTO “INTONACO”. L’INTONACO E’ PIU
RICCO IN GRASSELLO E CONTIENE SABBIA MOLTO PIU’ FINE
DI QUELLA IMPIEGATA NELL’ARRICCIO IN UN RAPPORTO DI
UNO AD UNO OD INFERIORE AD UNO RISPETTO AL
GRASSELLO.
GLI AFFRESCHI SONO COMPOSTI
DA STRATI
•IN UN’AFFRESCO L’INTONACO E’ APPLICATO A ZONE DETTE
GIORNATE E DIPINTE MENTRE L’INTONACO E’ ANCORA FRESCO
IN MODO CHE I PIGMENTI, DISPERSI IN ACQUA, SIANO
FISSATI DURANTE L’INDURIMENTO DELL’INTONACO.
H2SO4 + CaCO3 + H2O → CaSO4 ·2H2O + CO2 (Gesso)

Why hexagonal nanoprisms are preferred for wall painting re-cohesion
Hexagonal prisms with Hexagonal prisms with lclc/la<<1 have /la<<1 have very high plasticityvery high plasticity
Better carbonation reaction due to water Better carbonation reaction due to water retention among the hexagons interretention among the hexagons inter--layerslayers
The increase of The increase of Ca(OH)Ca(OH)2 2 concentration is possible only concentration is possible only by making high concentrated dispersions (up to 30% by by making high concentrated dispersions (up to 30% by vol.) of vol.) of nanoparticlesnanoparticles
Why it is difficult to use Why it is difficult to use Ca(OH)Ca(OH)2 2 (that is the best (that is the best consolidantconsolidant for for carbonaticcarbonatic materials)?materials)?
Why nanoparticles of Ca(OH)2
Saturated solutions Saturated solutions Ca(OH)Ca(OH)2 2 (lime water) are too (lime water) are too diluted in calcium hydroxide (about 1 g/l)diluted in calcium hydroxide (about 1 g/l)
