1. Description

The Brakel® Greenlite triple is a glass skylight with a thermally separated aluminium base and window which can be supplied in fixed and ventilated versions. The base is insulated with glass wool. HR++ triple glazing has been structurally bonded into the window. The Brakel® Greenlite triple distinguishes itself from the current Greenlite with its even better U-value, due to the application of triple glazing and improved base and window profiles. It is the best the market can buy at this moment. The ventilated Brakel® Greenlite triple is fitted with one or two chain driven motors and a built-in radio receiver so that the Brakel® Greenlite triple can be opened and closed with a remote control.

2. Application

The Greenlite triple is suitable for application in virtually every building where daylight entry is desired. It is an excellent alternative for the synthetic domes which have been applied up till now. With its flexible flange the Greenlite triple can be mounted to virtually any upright making the Greenlite triple very suitable for both new buildings and renovation work. The Greenlite triple is intended to be fixed to uprights on flat roofs or slightly sloping roofs up to a maximum inclination of 5°, so not for installation in skylights.

3. Advantages of the Greenlite triple

3.1 Advantages of the Greenlite triple (compared with a synthetic dome)

The Greenlite triple has a number of specific advantages compared with a synthetic dome and this makes it an excellent saleable product. - Higher insulation factor, fully thermally separated - Very good air and water tightness - Aesthetically attractive, with no edges so that water can run off the glass - Flying fire resistant (it is no dome) - Impact resistant (1200 J test, domes don't attain this, unless they are constructed differently) - Longer life time (polycarbonate ages, glass does not) - High translucence and permanent (polycarbonate turns yellow) - No algal growth (polycarbonate diffuses vapours causing internal condensation) - Made to measure - Can be supplied in any colour desired - Applicable on virtually any upright thanks to the flexible flange size - High sound insulation (glass damps better than polycarbonate) - Much less structure-borne noise. (rain is much less audible than with domes)

3.2 Advantages of the Greenlite triple compared with the Greenlite

- By using triple glazing and wider base and window profiles the Greenlite triple achieves a better u-value. (heat insulation) - The better insulation value results in condensation forming even later. With an outside temperature of -10°C and an inside temperature of +20°C condensation only starts to form at 55% Relative Humidity. (in comparison: Greenlite 39%)

Base The base consists of an internal and external 2.0 mm aluminium perpendicular plate, quality EN AW-5754. Because it is produced from aluminium sheeting we can make non-standard flanges to measure. (see flexible base) The aluminium is thermally separated by a white PVC angled profile 68x30x3 mm thick. The glass wool supplied must be applied to the base after the Greenlite triple has been mounted on an upright. The aluminium inner frame is supplied standard with polyester powder coating RAL 9010 and the outer frame in RAL 7047. Synthetic covering adapter The top of the base is covered with a synthetic adapter of 2 mm thick PVC. The synthetic adapter consists standard of 4 loose components, the corners of which are not welded or glued. The synthetic adapter can be supplied in one piece at extra cost. Window The window consists of a thermally separated aluminium surround profile, quality EN AW-6063 T5, article no. 013.XXX.XXX. Acrylic tape 6415LSE article no. 037,120,010 is applied to

the window profile. The glass is placed on this. The glass is sealed with 791 black silicon sealant, article no. 037,010,130. Sealing is achieved with white EPDM rubber strips, article no. 035,210,020. The aluminium profile is supplied standard with polyester powder coating RAL 7047. Note: The surround profile continues on the inside, and so is a different colour from the base. Hinges Hinges are fitted to the base on a black HPE filling block (article no. 033,650,001) Hinges are aluminium window hinges type EV1 2464 with article no. 026,010,074. 4.6 Flexible base The Greenlite triple is supplied standard to be mounted on an upright 70 mm wide. (Note: a standard synthetic upright is usually only 60 mm.) The Greenlite triple can be supplied with a flexible base so that all sorts of uprights and connections are possible. See the drawing below.

All flange types are possible

5. Operation

5.1 Fixed

The Greenlite triple can be supplied in a fixed version which is only suitable for daylight access. The fixed Greenlite triple is supplied with hinges and the fixed part can be replaced by a chain driven motor. Because you have to fix the Greenlite triple in the base to the upright the window must be able to be opened. To do this undo the screw so that you can open the window. Then screw the base to the upright with the screws supplied. Place the glass wool supplied in the base, close the window and screw the screw back in again. See also the mounting instructions supplied.

5.2 Controllable with chain driven motor

We use 4 types of chain driven motors, an Ylong motor ELA300-T 24V or ELA300-T 230V, ELA300D-T 24V and ELA300D-T 230V. The chain driven motor supplied is standard a 230V AC chain driven motor which can be opened and closed with a remote control. The chain driven motor is supplied standard with a 1.3 m cable. With some dimensions of the Greenlitetriple we must use the ELA300D-T 24V because the ELAD-T 230 V is longer. To get always a 230V type we built in a trafo. This is also the case with type 600 where we must use a 24V motor with a trafo. Data trafo Typ: Ansmann mains supply Art. Nr.: 050.691.220 Power: 72W

The glass is 76 mm larger than the recess dimension in both length and width, so type 600x600 has a glass size of 676x676 mm. It has an inclination angle of 3° and is sealed all round with silicon so that water can easily run off the window. It is important to always order glass with silicon edge sealing so that it can be sealed with silicon sealant as other sealants are not UV-resistant. Laminated glass 3.3.2 is applied on the inside. A 2-layer synthetic foil is applied between the two glass panes which ensures that the glass does not fall down if the glass breaks. This is called safety glass. The synthetic foil is 0.76 mm thick making the total glass thickness 48.76 mm. For larger sizes you will see that 8 mm glass is used and laminated glass 4.4.2. This is necessary to guarantee the carrying capacity of larger span widths.

See chapter 10 for solar control glazing or glazing with matt foil.

7. Warnings and markings

The flap is not intended tob e stood on or walked on. This is therefore forbidden. This is indcated by the label shown below. There is a chance of getting trapped when closing the flap. This is indicated with a label and a warning; window opens/closes automatically. Ensure that the control box cannot operated by third parties during maintenance so that the flap do not automatically close remotely. Every Greenlite triple has a sticker where the main characteristics are mentioned on. By correspondence please mention the order number. Until 10 years after production the data will be kept.

8. U value

The Greenlite triple has excellent insulating properties. Whereas a synthetic dome usually has a higher value than 1,5 W/(m²K) the Greenlite triple scores around 0,52-0,53 W/(m²K). The U-values can vary depending on the upright used. If you use an upright also of about 0.5 W/m2K then the u-value will not change much. So a bad upright >0.5 W/m2K will result in a worse overall value. The U-values can vary depending on the upright used. The tables below indicate which values you can achieve with the Greenlite triple including the upright. The U-values are defined in compliance with the EN 10077-2 standard. This is based on triple glazing with a U-value of 0.5 W/(m2K) which we use as standard.

9. Tests

Various official tests have been carried out on the Greenlite triple by inspection institutes.

9.1 Air tightness measurements The air tightness of the Greenlite triple has been approved compliant with the EN 12207 standard. Testing in accordance with EN 1026:2000 Grading in accordance with EN 12207:1999 For an extensive report of these results you can refer to the report SKG 13.01093. The air permeability has achieved class 4 (600 Pa). Class 4 means that at 600 Pa positive and negative pressure difference air loss is so small that you get class 4. (Class 4 is the highest and best class achievable) Positive and negative pressure difference results at 100 Pa.

Positive pressure difference

Air permeability on closing seam length at 100 Pa 0.13 m³/hm¹

Air permeability on the surface at 100 Pa 0.46 m³/hm²

Negative pressure difference

Air permeability on closing seam length at -100 Pa 0.37 m³/hm¹

Air permeability on the surface at -100 Pa 1.36 m³/hm²

9.2 Water tightness measurements

The water tightness of the Greenlite triple has been approved compliant with the EN 12208 standard. Testing in accordance with EN 1027:2000 Grading in accordance with EN 12208:1991 For an extensive report of these results you can refer to the report SKG 13.01093. The water tightness of the Greenlite triple is classified as: E1050 A product is normally tested for water tightness up to 600 Pa underpressure. This is the highest standard, but you can go further. We tested the Greenlite triple at 1050 Pa underpressure. At 1050 Pa the Greenlite triple is still watertight. This pressure corresponds to a wind force of 14-15, which never occurs.

9.3 Variable loading

Resistance to variable wind loads according to the EN 12210 standard. Testing in accordance with EN 12211:2000 Grading in accordance with EN 1210:1991/C1:2002 For an extensive report of these results you can refer to the report SKG 13.01093. The water tightness of the Greenlite triple is classified as: class C5 Class C5 means that you test with a design load of 2000 Pa, in other words this test is carried out with 1000 Pa underpressure and 1000 Pa overpressure. This pressure is sustained every 7 seconds and each pressure is repeated 50x. (+1000Pa -1000Pa;50x) A strength test is also part of this test. The Greenlite triple is classified as: 3000 Pa Test on stiffness is classified as: 2000 Pa It was determined that the Greenlite triple suffered no visible changes.

9.4 Acoustic measurements

The Greenlite triple has been tested for acoustic damping by Peutz. For an extensive report of these results you can refer to the report ??????. The Greenlite triple has a damping value of: Rw(C;Ctr)=??(-?;-?) dB

The pane itself has a damping value of Rw(C;Ctr)=37(-2;-8) dB.

9.5 1200 J test

The Greenlite triple has been approved for impact resistance safety. This so-called soft body impact test means that a bag of 50 kg can be dropped from a height of 2.40 m to fall on the surface to be tested. Damage may occur here but the bag may not fall through the product. The bag must lie for 10 minutes. The test is intended to show that if people become unwell they will not fall down through a product. Synthetic domes often don't pass this test so our products are at an advantage if they do pass the test. For an extensive report of these results you can refer to the report SKG ??????. The results: The Greenlite triple is classified as SB 1200

10. Options

10.1 Solar control glazing

Solar control glazing can be applied in the Greenlite triple instead of normal triple glazing. Various options are possible but it must be taken into consideration that larger types need to be supplied in a different version. (See chapter 6) The glass is 76 mm larger than the recess dimension in both length and width, so type 600x600 has a glass size of 676x676 mm. It is important to always order glass with silicon edge sealing so that it can be sealed with silicon sealant as other sealants are not UV-resistant. We would advise a Stopray Vision 60 solar control glazing. Solar control characteristics are achieved by applying a selective metal coating. This has a high light admittance (52%) and yet a low sun access factor (only 30%). Technical specifications glass: Silicon edge sealing Outer pane: 6 mm Stopray Vision-60 pos.2 Cavity: 16 mm Argon 90% Middle pane: 4 mm Planibel Clearvision Cavity: 16 mm Argon 90% Inside pane: 3.3.2 Stratobel iplus Advanced 1.0 U value: 0.5 W/m²K Other values: See below

10.2 Inside pane with matt foil 332

Another option is to produce the triple glazing in an opaque version. In this case the foil is covered on the inside with an opaque colour so that you cannot look either inside or out. This also reduces penetrating sunlight. (Light transmission goes from 63% to 49-51%) The glass is 76 mm larger than the recess dimension in both length and width, so type 600x600 has a glass size of 676x676 mm. It is important to always order glass with silicon edge sealing so that it can be sealed with silicon sealant as other sealants are not UV-resistant.

10.5 Option without remote control 230V

Standard the Greenlite will be delivered with remote control. If wished we can deliver the Greenlite without remote control. In this case you must take care the switch or connection must be fitted with a 0-position. It’s not allowed to switch direct from open to close position. The chainmotor will blow or stop working when you don’t have a 0-position. There are also some situations where we must use a 24V chainmotor.(see chapter 5.2) The schemes below shows how to connect. Exception on this is the exterior sun blinds – Screen. The receiver is built in the motor so in this case you must always use a remote control to open or close the screen. 10.7 Rain sensor

A rain sensor can be fitted if required.

Rain sensor operation

The sensor will be connected on the Greenlitetriple near the cable exit. As soon as the sensor detects rain the sensor closes the chain driven motor. When it stops with rain the sensor doesn’t open the Greenlitetriple automatically. More Greenlitetriple with different frequencies for the remote control means more rain sensors. Manual After the sensor closes the window and the rain has stopped the window doesn’t open automatically. You must open the window as follows:

1) Push on the arrow down 2) Push on My 3 3) After this you can open the Greenlite 2

10.8 Insect gauze

Insect gauze can be placed on the inside (at the bottom). The insect gauze is fixed in the Greenlitetriple using magnets so that it can easily be removed for instance for cleaning the Greenlitetriple. This gives a clean finish as you only can see the insect gauze and the white aluminium surround.

Insect gauze specifications Surround: Aluminium profile L 9010 26x 16 mm (bxh) Gauze: Synthetic grey insect gauze Sze of mesh: 1.5 x 1.5 mm Fastening: With magnets and magnetic strips

10.9 Solar panels

By using a solar panel and a battery box it is possible to install a Greenlitetriple without cables and to open and close it with a remote control. The solar panel is fixed to the battery box with a bracket and can be turned so that the panel always faces the south. The battery box (with solar panel) is supplied separately and will have to be installed on the roof near the Greenlitetriple. Note: The battery will gradually lose power on sunless days. In our experience the Greenlitetriple can be opened and closed about 400x when the sun doesn't shine. Note: When installing a solar panel the chain driven motor will be supplied in a 24 V version.
