There is no i in team.

Inside this teamwork portfolio lies a vari-ety of examples of why we all need to work together in the world. If it wasn’t for each other, we couldn’t come together as teams, religions, families to help one another. Team work is so important in the real world and it is overlooked but mans wants in life. Man simply could not achieve as much as he does without a team of people to support him. In all walks of life there is a team of people to help you, from being born right up to before you die. In this paragraph I aim to change your outlook on teams and for us to appreciate one another more.

GIF PROJECT

Redchurch St. Fashion Film

Trend Presentation

In recent years and the growth in technology, we are now able to get across messages through different platforms. GIF’s take us right bak to the begin-ning of film making when they were just ‘motion pic-tures’. GIF’s are based on the same idea that a lot of photos put together can create a moving picture. GIFs are very recent and have only recently been available of all platforms. They started being pop-ular on Tumblr, but are now found on various social media platforms.

Our task was to create a gif that would relate to the new students on campus and could be showed to them on open days. As we brainstormed about how we felt about university we came up with the idea that many students are taking a big step out of their comfort zones to come to UEL. We played with the idea of shoes and having them walk by themselves, however it wasn’t successful in our group. So we agreed on the idea that we would shoot the GIF on the river and show a student walking or ‘taking big steps into university.

On the day myself, Fran and Sylvia met up to shoot the gif. For this we took about 20 photos all of which were very similar. In the end we only used 4 images, which shows how many photos you need to take on a shoot for it to be successful. We also added text in which, now we many change as we didn’t real-ise how hard it would be to read, it also didn’t fit with our theme, which is a learning curve.

What is a GIF?

From this task I have learned how to create a gif using photoshop, and what it takes to shoot a gif and the planing it needs. Overall it was a fairly basic task to give us some experience in photoshop which is a key tool in fashion marketing. It was also an enjoyable task as we got to know each other during the planning process.

Photoshootwith Carri Munden

This project was particularly enjoyable. We meet with Carri Munden, a industry stylist and she helped guide us though how a shoot really works. Our brief was to connect sportswear and performance clothes with another aspect. As a group we chose smart/

business attire to pair with the theme. During dis-cussion we split up the load by assigning each per-son with a role. Mine was to look at business wear and how it is desirable to people, what the ap-

peal around it is. Though my research I found that the idea around suits and business attire is suc-cess. Many people who are wearing business clothes for their everyday jobs are working in the city or in banks. These people are desirable as they have reached a high point in their career and to many

working class wearing a suit to work also gives you power. So by creating clothes that have the powerful ideal of ‘business’ and pairing them with sports-wear, which from a group meeting, we found peo-

ple find relaxing- we create a whole new market of wealthy business people who want to feel relaxed.

After the meeting we connected all of our ideas though a pintrest board where all our ideas and an-gles for shots, locations and such came together and we used this on the day of the shoot to stay fo-

cused.

On the day, we started with Hair and Makeup. Kayla had been in charge of the beauty section of the shoot and she came up with the idea of gelling the mod-

els baby hairs to look inspired by some of the recent hair trends seen in the music industry. This took a lot longer than we had originally planned and in the planning process we had not left much time for hair and make up. We quickly learnt that this would be the most time consuming part of the whole shoot. We then shot our model against some various backgrounds, but kept them light as we didn’t want a very dark image, we wanted the shoot to be fresh and new. We spent a lot of time re-arranging tables in the shoot as well

as costume changes.

The overall outcome of the shoot shows the finished idea. We kept to the planning mostly, despite the

timing being completely off what we thought it would be. The shoot ended up taking us 3 hours to do, this gave us enough time for all the essential parts and to have good footage to work with in the editing

stages. Overall, this project taught me how to time manage. This will help is almost all the projects i work in as i will be able to use my time more effi-ciently as i have the knowledge of how long certain

tasks take to complete.

Redchurch St. Fashion Film

Using film and motion picture in fashion has become very popular. Its a new, cheaper, more efficient way of con-veying new ideas to the public and potential competi-tors. Fashion film started at Show Studio and was taken on by many new fashion designers. The most recent one is by Gareth Pugh. His fashion film was so innovative as he played the fashion film at London Fashion Week (s/s15) instead of putting on a traditional runway. He also left the film on repeat so people could come and go as they pleased to see the film. With this new, fantastic way of showcasing fashion, more and more fashion films are being produced, some can be as long as 15 minutes!

Our brief for this project was to produce a fashion films protracting a message to consumers in shoreditch. Every team was given an area and ours was AREA 6 which was Redchurch Street. At a first glance the street didn’t look much different to the other areas of Shoreditch, however on closer inspection we realised it wasn’t. The boutiques were small, but filled and we soon realised there were no chain shops on this road. One particular-ly caught our eye called ‘Kit and Ace’. This brand had their concept store here and it was the first shop in the UK. We interviewed the man who managed the concept store. He spoke about ‘Hyperlocal elements’ that had been made by local tradesman and artists to go in the store. These elements such as the table, the lighting fixtures and the coffee cup designs change every 3 months to ‘mix it up for the customers’. In Kit and Ace they also use technical cashmere which is produced by them and it is the only place you can buy it. Its machine washable but comes in at around £118 a tee shirt. The brand, as a concept, really intrigued all of us and we decided then that this company would feature in our film. We also found Versus (‘Street Versace) and various street art.

When we went back to film, only myself, Sylvia and Cris-tina could attend and we started to think about what we wanted to put in. I put myself forward as cinematographer and shot all of the footage in the film. I decided to not use the tripod outside our concept store as it gives the audience a change in scene. I filmed a lot of footage that was short and a lot of pan shots. This is because i feel the editing will be relatively fast, and paced to music that we had picked out.

At the editing stage i took full reign of the whole thing. Due to some distance issues, i was able to message them and ask them questions on what they thought and show them where i was at with editing. I am experienced in editing so i wasn’t new to any of the programs or softwares. For this I used Final Cut Pro X. This was an updated version of the one i had previously used but i was still familiar with the essence components.

I began by looking back over the footage i had collected to remind myself of our outcome and what it was we really wanted to achieve and convey in this film. I then choose the music from freeacrchivemusic.org, a website where anyone can used un-copyrighted music. I used the word ‘passionate’ to find some music that would match, as the voice overs we had were of people talking passionately about their business and jobs. I found one piece of music that was slow but had an uplifting beat to it and after much dicussion, i used this song as it really fit in with out outcome.

Our final outcome came out the way we had hoped, the voiceovers gave a nice soft echo to the music and I feel we really got our concept across which was to show the difference in the street and how unique it was. From this task I learn more about editing and sound, and how the sound of a video in editing is actually really complicat-ed. I also learnt about a whole new area of London.

Trend Presentation

Presenting is a powerful tool in the marketing indus-try, as well as the fashion industry. Its key to be able to speak to people and communicate ideas to them for a full group understanding. This project was about giving a group presentation about Trends we find around campus that are changing the way we dress. We then had to apply these chosen trends with a future concept that would move these trends and think of what they may become in the fu-ture.

The group and I had a team meeting and talked about what it was we all had in common that we was wearing on that day. From this primary research we found we was all wear-ing some form of performance wear, it may be trainers, leggings, outerwear, sports logos etc. This lead us to look at what bloggers are wearing and we all went to ins-tagram to see this. Instagram as a social media platform has become more of a 21st century visual diary for the young generation who are interested in fashion. We found there were so many people who wore trainers dressed up or down and we choose this theme as our trend. We also paired this look with outerwear such as jackets and coats as we saw this also was very popular.

When putting together the presentation, we all assigned each other with various roles. Some were to research trainers/outerwear and were the original trend came from. Others were to put together what the new future concept could be. My role in the team was to put together a con-cept board for the outerwear half of the presentation and talk about the future trend. In the concept board i talked about how the hoods have a bad perception in the modern day as they are connected with gang crimes as a sterotype. My new concept was to create a jacket or coat that had a section where the hood is able to be tucked in as part of the padding of the coat. This would work best

Page 15: Teamwork Portfolio

for a bomber jacket or puffer jacket but it takes away the negative view on the hood as its completely hidden.

On the Presentation day a few of our team members failed to turn up at last minute notice as so we had to impro-vise. 10 minutes before the presentation was all the time we had and so we took the roles of the missing people and slit them up so we could even out the load. The end re-sult went smoothly as we presented our ideas using our

tablets. From this task i have learned that in group work you must always be prepared for the worst as sometimes people can let down the team, but this should not cause effect on the quality of your presentation.
