The role of team manager is an important role. Your job is to maintain the general running
of the team to free up the coach to concentrate on coaching and training. The team
manager is a liaison between coach/parents/players and the club administration. You
work with the coach to bring about a high level of team spirit. The Team Manager is also
knowledgeable on CDNA by-laws and assists in upholding the Codes of Behaviour

3. EACH SEASON PLAYER REGISTRATION
The CNC secretary will distribute emails to all team managers about each season
registration period. Pass this information onto your team as soon as possible.
Registration for Autumn season (Feb – June) occurs in the November before
the new year.
Registration for Spring season (Jul – Nov) occurs in June.
Players/parents register to play through the MyNetball website. Approximately one
week from the due date, remind your team to register and pay before the deadline.
This will ensure no one misses out playing the next season.
TRAINING SESSIONS
For established teams the training session usually continues the same from season to
season. Liaise with the coach if any changes are needed. Be aware that courts are
booked for training at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve and various other schools.
Changing your training schedule may conflict with another team already using the
courts that day/time. Communicate any changes to team and the CNC secretary.
Court bookings for Duncan Mackinnon are done via CNC. Send your day/time
request to the CNC secretary who will submit it to CDNA. Courts are allocated by
CDNA at the beginning of season and changes as required. We are unable to request
specific courts and when demand is high, you may be allocated a half court. The
allocated training schedule is on CDNA website www.cdna.net.au
WHEN TO CANCEL TRAINING
If the morning of the training is expected to be over 30 degrees + or stormy wet
weather, liaise with the coach and make a decision not to have training that
afternoon. You and/or the coach should then message all players/parents that
morning before school preferably, so parents can make necessary arrangements. If
the weather is not extreme, for example, heavy rain, a decision whether to cancel
training or not may be decided just prior to the training session.
CDNA GRADING ROUNDS
CDNA grading games (usually 3 or 4) take place at the start of each new season. If
you wish to lodge a grading request, talk with your coach and CNC Coaching
Coordinator, then send an email request to CNC secretary stating your request and
reason, by the end of the third round. CNC will lodge all regrading requests to
CDNA by the due date. Requests submitted by anyone other than the CNC secretary will
not be considered. CNC will advise you if your team has moved sections. New fixtures
are issued by CDNA at end of grading for the remainder of the season.

4. COMMUNICATION TO TEAMS COMMUNICATION FROM CNC
Communications will often come from CNC via the Team Manager Coordinator and
the Secretary. It is your role to send this information onto teams as soon as possible.
TEAM CONTACT LISTS
Each season, ensure that you have an up to date list of the players and parents
details including mobile phone numbers and email addresses so that all players can
collectively be informed of communications. It’s a good idea to have a copy of this
on hand and also a copy in the team kit bag.
PHOTOGRAPHY PERMISSION
It is also necessary to know if any player has denied permission for their child to be in
photographs. Everyone in the team need to be aware of any players whose
parents have denied permission. It's a good idea to clarify with individual parents the
exact situation for which they deny permission. Some parents may not want their
child's image put on social media, but are OK with team photos being taken and
shared amongst the team. Others may not want their child's picture taken by
anyone else at all.
TEAMAPP
CNC uses the mobile app ‘TeamApp’ which can be downloaded to your phone,
tablet or computer. This enables you to access the fixtures and ladders specific to
your team, and be notified promptly of coming events or news.
The TeamApp also has a dedicated area and Chat room for you as the team
manager to communicate with your team. We encourage all team managers to
use this to create news items, events, training days and also load documents such as
the team roster. You can chat to your team in a private chat room and there is the
ability to upload photos that are only viewable by members of your team.
All Team Mangers have been setup with admin access to their individual team area
in TeamApp. https://carnegienetballclub.teamapp.com
SEND WEEKLY REMINDERS TO TEAMS
It can be very helpful for busy parents if you send an SMS/Team App message out
each week reminding them of game time, court, who’s on oranges / scoring. Often
it’s the reminders that parents take most notice of!

ATTEND MEETINGS OR GENERAL EVENTS
CDNA DELEGATES MEETING
CDNA hold ‘Delegate meetings’ prior to each season. At least one of the team
manager or coach must attend these meetings unless otherwise stated. Sometimes
the delegates meeting may be for just “new” teams and not all teams, however we
encourage you to go as they are most informative. Occasionally, team members will
be encouraged to join the meetings. In this case, email the details of the meeting to
your team.
CARNEGIE NETBALL CLUB MEETING
CNC also hold meetings typically at the beginning of the year to help team
managers and coaches with all the latest news for the coming season and helpful
tips. Keep your eye out for any Club meetings.

5. ROSTERS AND DUTY ROSTERS FOR ORANGES AND SCORING
Team managers are responsible for creating rosters for oranges/fruit and scoring.
Typically the family doing oranges also does the scoring that week.
Helpful details to add to the roster are:
Dates and round number
Game time (e.g., 5:00 pm – 5:40 pm)
Court number
Opponent’s team name
Home or away (if it home game we need to collect Scoresheet)
Name of person in charge of oranges / name of scorer
Note: Game fixtures don’t normally get released until just a few days before the start of the
season. This is usually posted on the CDNA website the Tuesday before the first game.
Most families have tight schedules and would appreciate getting the roster sent to
them as soon as possible.
Coaches do not usually form part of the roster as they are busy coaching!
SETUP & PACK UP GOAL POST PADDING
The rule is that all teams in the first time slot of match day on Friday or Saturday are to apply 1
goal post pad to their court, and the teams playing at the end of match day to remove 1
goal post pad and place it in the trolley provided at the completion of their match.

6. CODES OF BEHAVIOUR THE TEAM MANAGER’S ROLE
Carnegie Netball Club wants to empower you, the team manager to help
teams/parents/spectators to understand and adhere to the CDNA Codes of
Behaviour. It’s very important that team managers help control and manage this
aspect of junior sport. If we can manage it here, there will be fewer issues needing
official intervention.
Make sure your players, their parents and coaches have read the CDNA Codes of
Behaviour at the start of each season. It’s a good idea to get each family to reply to
you as a form of acknowledgement that they have read the Codes.
Codes of Behaviour:
http://cdna.vic.netball.com.au/files/39427/files/PoliciesandProcedures/CodeofBehaviouram
endment2015.pdf
OUR TIPS:
If you have a Junior coach, check in with them regularly to ensure they’re
comfortable with the players/parents/spectators behaviour.
Use one of your first training sessions to read the code together with the
players. Use examples to help demonstrate what is acceptable and what is
not.
When each member registers through MyNetball, they are required to agree
to the Club’s terms and conditions and this includes the Codes of Behaviour.
At games, if you see one of our parents/spectators contravening the rules in
the code, feel empowered to go up and have a quick chat to them. Often,
that’s all that is needed.
If you observe behaviour from anyone at the game contravening the code,
and it’s happening repeatedly, seek immediate action from the umpires in
the red jackets (court supervisors) at the courts. Later, notify the CNC
committee to help resolve the situation if it requires further attention.

7. EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORMS EQUIPMENT
TEAM KIT
Each team is supplied with the standard netball equipment kit at start of each year
(or the start of the season if a new team joins mid-year.) Typically, the coach takes
care of the kit. If your team loses their game ball or any other equipment during the
season, liaise with your coach and email any replacement requests to CNC who will
forward it onto the equipment coordinator.
Refer to the Handbook for a full list of what is in the netball kit.
EQUIPMENT – MATCH DAY / TRAINING
Most coaches will take the equipment bag and drink bottle carrier etc., to training
and the games. Check with the coach and see if help is needed.
UNIFORMS
Uniforms are purchased from the CNC through the ‘Store’ in TeamApp. A uniform can
be purchased anytime of year, however it is encouraged that players purchase new
uniforms at the end of the season in readiness for the start of the next season. After
your order is lodged and paid for, the uniform coordinator will make contact with you
to arrange collection of your new uniform. It may take up to 4 weeks to receive your
order.
Refer to the Handbook for a full list of the official club uniform.
SECONDHAND UNIFORMS
As each year goes by and players grow out of their previous years’ uniforms, we
anticipate a growing supply and demand for second hand uniforms – primarily
dresses (and hoodies!). A Facebook page has been setup for sales:
Link: www.facebook.com/groups/576762162479635/
Any sale is conducted directly between the two parties. CNC has no responsibility in
the transaction.
CLUB HOODIES
CNC zip-up hoodies are a popular item. CNC purchases these and offers them for
sale throughout the seasons. Hoodies are for sale on the TeamApp app.

8. NETBALL RULES THE RULES
Netball is played under the rules published by Netball Australia – using the rules of
netball set by International Netball Federation. Have the rules handy for coaches/teams.
Link: http://cdna.vic.netball.com.au/files/39427/files/Umpiring/2018_RULE_BOOK.pdf
We as a club, who play within the CDNA competition must also abide by the CDNA
By-Laws and Policies set out by CDNA and available on their website. Much of this
information has been covered in the Club Handbook.
FILL IN PLAYERS
It is recommended that team managers familiarise themselves with the intricate rules
around the use of fill-in players. Refer to the Club Handbook section ‘Fill-in players’.
SCORESHEETS
It is recommended that team managers familiarise themselves with the rules on filling
in the scoresheet and help the weekly scorers complete the scoresheet.
We encourage that you view the scoresheet prior to the end of the game to check
it’s been completed correctly (i.e., all players listed, fill-in players’ details on the
back/front, injuries on the back etc.) otherwise you face a fine or 4-point deduction.
EXTREME WEATHER / HEAT
In 2018, CDNA have modified their extreme weather policy to allow for simpler but
firmer guidelines (By-Law 25.6).
http://cdna.vic.netball.com.au/files/39427/files/PoliciesandProcedures/WeatherPoli
cy2018.pdf
Lightning, torrential rain, high temperatures (32 degree +) are classified as extreme
weather, however rain means the game goes on. If a game is cancelled, only that
time slot is cancelled, subsequent timeslots proceed unless also cancelled. Teams
are expected to show up for every game unless CDNA has contacted the club prior
to the match. In summary:
no drink breaks at quarter and three-quarter time unless authorised by CDNA
umpires.
turn up for every match regardless of weather
drink lots of water leading up to hot days and at half time
coaches will swap players whenever possible for those players overwhelmed
with the heat
from 2018 players can wear hats on court – refer to Club Handbook section
‘Uniform’. Ensure you, apply sunscreen before the match.
Team Manager's Guide – Last Modified: Mar-2019 P a g e | 11 of 12
9. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES CANCELLED GAMES
Check your email or text messages regularly in case there is a message from CDNA
regarding cancelled games. Carnegie Netball Club will forward any timely
notifications from CDNA through TeamApp and email. Pass this information on straight
away to the team.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – AWARDS/VOUCHERS
Typically, CNC source awards/vouchers (Grill’d, 7-eleven slurpees) for each team’s
coach to handout to the player of the week for each game. We provide these
vouchers to the coach when available, generally near the start of each season.
FUN AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
At the start and/or end of a season it’s a great idea to organise a BBQ, a dinner out
or team activity etc.
ENCOURAGE THE TEAM
Look for ways to encourage the team (coach, parents and players) on a regular basis!
Encourage respectful and ‘in the spirit of the game’ conduct from all players, coaches
and supporters.
PRESENTATION DAY
Each year CNC holds a presentation day for trophy presentations, photos and
celebrating the year of netball. We ask that you help provide the correct spelling of
all players’ names to ensure trophy engravings are correct. It’s a fun day and players
get a chance to mix with all the other teams who play for Carnegie Netball Club.
END OF YEAR GIFTS
Team managers typically organise a gift for the coach at the end of season/year by
collecting contributions from the team. It’s a nice way to say thanks!

10. ‘WHAT TO DO IF ...?’
WHAT TO DO IF YOU FILL IN THE SCORESHEET INCORRECTLY
If you realise after the game that the scoresheet has been filled in incorrectly (i.e.,
forgot to list a fill-in player’s details on the back), send an email to CNC secretary and
team manager coordinator immediately so that we can contact CDNA
administration. Often, if we are proactive in these cases we can avoid a fine.
WHAT TO DO IF ALL THE PLAYERS ARE ON CAMP AND CAN’T PLAY A GAME
You must have minimum five players to take the court. If you don’t you must find fill-
in players before match day or you will have to forfeit.
Please notify our Club Secretary if you have to forfeit so CDNA don’t penalise your
team. You must notify us by 5 pm on day before competition so that we can notify
CDNA office by 6pm on the day prior, or by 12pm on the day of competition for
U11’s, of your team’s intent to forfeit, otherwise a penalty will be applied. Refer to
Club Handbook re Fill-in Players’.
WHAT TO DO IF THE OPPOSITION PLAYER’S MAKE NEGATIVE COMMENTS
If someone from the opposition team makes a negative comment to, or about one
of our players and it comes to the attention of you (or coach or parent), follow this
procedure:
1. Acknowledge the comment with the player/team.
2. Recognise its inappropriateness and that it is against the Codes of Behaviour.
3. Explore how it made the player/team feel and value their input.
4. Reinstate positive behaviour, talk about how we at CNC do not exhibit that sort
of behaviour, that we want to be known as fair and a good spirited club.
5. Close the topic and move on.
It’s best to act on issues immediately so it doesn’t prolong or fester in the minds of the
players.
WHAT TO DO IF A PLAYER HAS NEW EAR PIERCINGS
Ear rings can now be left in but must be taped in fabric tape (available from the
supervisors office). There is no limit to how many weeks you can tape them.
WHAT TO DO IF PLAYERS WANT TO WEAR CLOTHING OTHER THAN THEIR UNIFORM
Only U11s - may wear a long sleeve white top under their club polo shirt. Navy
leggings are also allowed (from 2018) if court supervisor advises its ok on the day.
