Why Oye Lucky Lucky Oye ?
The movie bombed at the box office. It was about the rise of a small time crook to notoriety and
faux celebrity. It packs in so many layers: class envy and conflict, family dynamics, lower
middle class aspirations. Its genius however lies in wrapping the whole thing in an extremely
entertaining package. Despite of all this, the film did not do well because the marketing
strategies didnt go hand in hand with the greatness of the story. So, we thought of promoting it
in a different manner which could have effected in better earnings and ratings.
Film Marketing
As more and more producers and investors enter Bollywood, the need to backup your investment
has increased a great deal. A film is considered a product or an experience and a product with a
huge investment. This past year has seen some of the most expensive Hindi movies ever made.
Kambakht Ishq made with a budget of 60 crore, Jodha Akbar also about the same and Love Story
2050 made for a whopping 80 crore. Surpassing all these will be Blue made from over 100 crore.
Hence, marketing becomes essential for producers looking to ensure profits on their investments.
Marketing Strategies
y Advertising Railway Announcements: Even today almost 70% of the Indian population
travels through the railways so what better medium could be there to publicize the
movie than railway platforms. We will tie up with the railway authorities and the
regular announcements of taking care of your luggage could be modified to

Bill Boards: There will be huge bill boards put up in all the metros at prime
locations showing the name of the movie and with a message , Watch out for
LUCKY, he might be sitting next to you!!!
Social Networking: Personal Accounts, Blogs and Web pages would be createdin the name of the movie, with some teasers and pics from the sets posted on the
wall, which would be updated from time to time. The invitations would be sent to
as many people as possible keeping in mind the genres of the movie they like
watching.
Radio, TV and Theatres: Teasers would be shown on TV and theatres with a tagline Kamao toh Zero, Churao toh Hero. The publicity would also be done
through various radio channels wherein the RJs would ask the public to narrate
incidents related to thefts in their lives.
Cut outs and Printed glasses: We will put the cut outs of Abhay Deol and NeetuChandra saying Oye!!! Do come to the theatre near you on 28
thNovember to
know the truth. Till then take care of your belongings. Printed glasses would
also be used to serve the soft drinks and water in the theatre with Oye!!! written
on them.
Stickers: Huge Stickers saying Oye Lucky Lucky Oye!! would be put up atthe back of autos, trucks and buses.
y Publicity Gimmicks Theatres: We will hire people to stand in various multiplexes across the country
who would create a chaos like situation by acting like somebody has robbed them
and then the authority personnel at the theatres would shout, Lucky ka kaam
hoga, Kaha tha na bach ke raho!!!.
Posters: We would put small posters at the ticket counters saying Are you sureyou have locked your car properly???....LUCKY is here!!!. Posters near the
food counters would also be put up saying Are you sure you have all your
belongings??...Watch Out for Lucky!!!.
Cable Network: Promotions would be done through word of mouth of variousfamous TV characters in daily soaps like Suhaana (Sasural Genda Phool), Geet

(Geet..hui sabse parayi) and ACP Pradyumna & Daya (CID) who would,
Appeal to public to take care of their belongings as Lucky is on the loose .A
CID episode would be telecasted that would show the various thefts of Lucky
which the CID would be investigating but would ultimately give up. The ending
note of the episode would be, Watch Lucky finally behind the bars in Oye
Lucky Lucky Oye!!!.
y MerchandizingWe would collaborate with Pantaloons to sell Oye Lucky Lucky Oye merchandise like T-
Shirts, Caps, Bags, Broaches, Toys etc with Oye!!! printed on them.
y Sponsored EventWe would launch a game named, OYE!!!Bring Out the Thief in You wherein the
contestants would be asked to find and steal various items hidden in different parts of the
set before anyone else does and the winner would be awarded and would be given a
chance to meet the real Lucky. The game would be viewed on prime TV channels.
y Opening of a Store (OYE!!! Chori Ka Maal Saste Mein): This would be a no profitstore in which we would sell various branded electronic, decorative, daily use products at
wholesale prices for one week and people would also be given a chance to book their
movie tickets in advance at the store and would also be given a chance to win free tickets
and merchandize through various contests held in the store itself.
y Last Minute Promotions: Free Tickets: People with names Bunty or Lucky would be given free movie
tickets for the first 3 days on showing their I cards.
TV ads: The last two days prior to the release of the movie, promotions would bechanged to ads with the artists from the movie saying, Finally, Lucky has been
caught, come and watch him confess his crime in front of millions of people
in a theatre near you on 28th
November.
