Who is Tasha JonesThe virtual introduction, I AM TASHA JONES .COM lends way to the wit and genius of This STAR! The youngest Indiana Poet Laureate nominee is a mother, poet, activist, and artist. Her works are unique in which, Jones brilliantly marries the art of storytelling to the audaciousness of Hip Hop which breeds Literature in full throttle. A prolific writer, Tasha Jones soothes the soul and heals the body with words that cleverly infuses everyday life experiences with scripture to create works that empower.

The destiny of this beautifully written talent excels far beyond Literary expectations. Jones SPEAKs music! Her music is captivating and enlightening while also infusing genres, ages, and venues. Her words linger, like a needle stuck in the groove replaying the best part of your favorite song! Her words dance in the ears and

on the tongues of those who have had the pleasure of witnessing the Tasha Jones Experience. To see/hear Jones you instantly feel the magic of words spoken. Her message as well as the artistic wherewithal to say the right thing, at the right time, in the right way is phenomenal.

Jones is a virtuosic performer, with an acute ability to interlace complex threads with conventional wisdom. The ardent fervor Jones exemplifies in performances is matched by her commitment to education, service, and responsibility to the youth is the spark that ignites her flame. Hello BEautiful TM, an account of Jones’ experiences as aneducator in the Indianapolis School System, focuses on the power of words and the impact words have on today’s youth and tomorrows future. Two words, Hello BEautiful TM, revitalized 26 students, redirected momentum, and changed self-destructive/

self-sabotaging behavior in the class room and now empower the world.

The genius of Tasha Jones centers on her ability to lend simple wisdom in profound and moving ways. The diversity in her writings garners HOPE. A powerful prowess of expression with the soul and sage of a griot, Tasha Jones is a pure breath of fresh air and definitely “THE ONE to WATCH!

Before becoming the youngest Poet

Laureate nominee in Indiana History, before opening for Ms. Lauryn Hill’s Moving Target Tour, performing for Erykah Badu, and creating the Hello Beautiful Movement, Tasha Jones was a High School Teacher. In the Indianapolis Public Charter School system as an Advisor/Teacher, Tasha Jones spent days and nights teaching, reading, and grading papers. Writing poetry was hobby and occasionally she recited locally. In recitation, Jones found her words to be therapeutic not only for herself but for others. She gained notoriety and became a mainstay in the local newspapers and magazines as “the raging poet healing words.” In 2008, the Indianapolis Star deemed Tasha Jones as, “The One to Watch!”

Just as the community began granting accolades for Jones’ talent, questions began to rise as to her commitment to the classroom, along with her court child custody battle brewing. With litigators capitalizing on the newspaper/magazine articles and a poetry hobby performing schedule, the judge and ex then reinforced the sexist model of parenting, and punished Jones for fulfilling dreams. Jones lost a long hard custody battle with the judge determining “Jones was sufficient as a mother/parent, but the father/parent seemed to be more stable.” Jones was then ordered to move her children out in a matter of days, to reduce everyday contact and communication to every other weekend, as well as to pay child support (excessive), insurance, and private school.

From that, Jones went into a deep depression and became homeless before having an Ah-Ha moment! When life throws you curve balls, do you get hit or do you learn how to swing the bat? Learning how to swing at everything coming, Jones was back writing to save her life. Using words to lift herself out of a darkplace, she wrote a plan and began to see it through, promising herself to work daily at any venue that would give her 3 to 5 minutes on the microphone, with the sole purpose of creating a stable home for her children.Through her work and activism, Jones created the Hello BeautifulTM curricula, mantra, and lifestyle, with the intent to impart in others that “You determine your DESTINY!” and that “THERE ARE NO PLAN B’s!” Indeed, Jones lives by what she speaks. And by doing so her words and work ethic have put her in the company of the greats and indeed she is GREAT!

Indianapolis Museum of ArtIn 2011, the Indianapolis Museum of Art engaged Tasha Jones to write and perform her original poetry in response to the visual art of artist Thornton Dial, whose work was displayed here at the IMA. Tasha sculpted words and created bold visual art in response to Dial’s political, historical art. Words are as fundamental as images in conveying the deepest emotions and in eliciting responses from one human to another. Tasha is a master of the poetic, rhythmic form. She made one man’s visual art accessible to many more people, from a totally new vantage point, taking Dial’s work to another plane – one related to self-empowerment, self-claimed identities, and our shared dignity. When asked to describe their experience in surveys, attendees used adjectives such as “electric,” “phenomenal,” and “soul-shaking.” Tasha Jones made a serious contribution to the quality and depth of our programming slate at the IMA. Anne LakerDirector of Public ProgramsIndianapolis Museum of Art

Girl Scouts of Central IndianaTasha Jones has been a program partner for the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana for many years. Her passion, her poetry, and her message of empowerment, compliments our commitment to building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. It was only natural that when we hosted the 2008 National Girl Scout Leadership Institute – a two-day conference on healthy living for more than 1700 teen girls – in Indianapolis that Tasha Jones be involved. Her Hello Beautiful workshops were some of the best attended at the conference – serving more than 250 girls from across the country and around the world. Tasha Jones’ impact on youth is so profound that three years after the conference, girls still site her workshops as one of the turning points in their personal journey to empowerment and strong self-esteem.

Brian WallaceDuring my time as Operations Manager for Radio One Indianapolis, I had nothing but the greatest of experiences in dealings with Tasha Jones. I’ve known Tasha now for about 7 years, first meeting her when she approached me about doing a poetry segment on WHHH. I was impressed with the performance in my office and sound of her voice that I toyed with the idea of possibly putting her on the air at WTLC-FM. From that point, I kept up with her career as a poet and vocalist (something I learned about later). Over the years, I’ve watched her grow as a poet and vocalist, along with being one of the main driving forces of the ever growing poetry scene here in Indianapolis. She’s now at a point in her career where she’s become a huge influence on poets aspiring to do what she’s already accomplished and continue to strive for in the years to come.

TASHA JONES

“NO MORE FLIES, HAWT!”, states Mark Curry, “Tasha Jones is the TRUTH, the first Poet that sold this LA crowd on Poetry, She ROCKED IT (STANDING O...in LA)! She’s A STAR!” ~ Mark Curry (host of FOXXHOLE Live!)

“Tasha Jones is the ONE to Watch,” states the Indianapolis Star.

Tasha Jones is a rare and wonderful artist that strikes a balance in a world so often lopsided. Some people are all style with little to no substance while others have substance with no trace of style. Tasha is a perfect blending of the two. She has the soul of a Nikki Giovanni draped in the haute couture fashions of a runway model, two things few would think to pair. Her work speaks further to her dichotomy, to the easy equilibrium she has found between being a student of life and a teacher of lessons. On stage she tells the story of her life and in doing so tells the story of all women; a story of love, loss and life. She offers a perspective, poignancy and insight in her writing that allows men to see themselves through her work and women to see themselves in her work. She proves herself to be simultaneously what women are and what they aspire to be. In a world where few know who they are Tasha proves that not only does she know who she is but she has a deep understanding of who you are too; And once you’ve experienced her for yourself you will feel better, wiser and more enriched for it.

PROJECT PROPOSAL CONCEPT: The I AM TASHA JONES EXPERIENCE proposes three options for PARTY PLANNERS WEST (PPW) to overview:

OPTION AThe I AM Tasha Jones Experience proposes to be/provide the musical entertainment on/for ONE of the PPW stages. (Full 210 minute show with breaks and travel details are expressed in project proposal details)

OPTION BThe I AM Tasha Jones Experience proposes to perform on/for TWO of the PPW stages. (2 Full 100 minute shows with breaks and 10 travel details are expressed in project proposal details)

PROJECT PROPOSAL DETAILS: The I AM Tasha Jones Experience (IAMTJ) wants to enhance your Indiana involvement by creating an eclectic snapshot of the artistic genius that resides and prides itself onbeing a Hoosier. As a poet, who has blazed an uncanny trail in entertainment by being “the superla-tive,” Tasha Jones couples the power of spoken word/vocal with instrumentation to create a beauty of harmony. “Through my work I celebrate that which makes us unique but more importantly ties us together in the web of humanity, being a poet that rocks with a band and covers country, rock, and soul classics / originals is as eclectic as it comes,” states Jones. So the PPW request to include eclectic entertainment acts/activities/bands that are indicative of the Indianapolis area resonates. IAMTJ prides itself on being an artist that transcends; prom-

ising to be more than a show but an EXPERIENCE! An Indiana tapestry that is bound by hard work, dedication, and being the SUCCESSFUL FISH in a BIG POND! Coach Cal Stroll once said, Success is uncommon and not to be enjoyed by the common man. I’m looking for uncom-mon people because we want to be successful, not average!”

In this information age IAMTJ wants to include and make mention of the game day goings on by using social media outlets to give the Indiana general public the included feel. Allowing tweet breaks have been successful and we want Indiana to feel included on what is hap-pening. Balancing the idea allowing Indiana/ general supporters to tweet their most memo-rable “GAME DAY PLAYS” and make mention of those seem to get hometown love...(NOTE SOCIAL MEDIA TITLE “GAME DAY PLAYS” IS IN LINE WITH PPW NON-DISCLOSURE REQUIRE-MENTS).
