17. Text: The Rainbow Bird Listen and point. 1) Once upon a time there was a land where all the animals lived. High up in the sky there was Father Sun. Father Sun was shining and shining. So it was very, very hot in the land of the animals. The sun was shining. It was not raining. There weren’t any green trees anymore. There weren’t any flowers anymore. It was hot. 2) The animals were very hungry. The animals were very thirsty. “We must tell Father Sun to stop shining“, they shouted. “We must tell Father Sun that we need some rain. But who can do that?” 3) “I will fly into the sky and tell Father Sun to stop shining”, said the beautiful Rainbow Bird. “You can’t do that, Rainbow Bird!”, shouted all the other animals. “It’s too hot. Father Sun will burn you if you fly to him. You will die.” “I know, I know”, said the beautiful Rainbow Bird. “But we will all die, if I don’t fly to Father Sun.”

4) “Hero! Hero! You are a hero!” shouted all the animals. “Good luck. Rainbow Bird! Come back soon and be careful!” 5) The Rainbow Bird spread his wings and flew away. Higher and higher, high up into the sky. And then Father Sun could see the Rainbow Bird. “What a beautiful bird you are!” he shouted. “Let me shine on your beautiful colours!” 6) The Rainbow Bird shouted: “Please stop shining! We need some RAIN!” But Father Sun couldn’t hear the Rainbow Bird. Father Sun could only see the Rainbow Bird. And he was shining and shining. 7) The Rainbow Bird became hotter and hotter until he was on fire. Once again he shouted, “We need some rain!” 8) And then there wasn’t a beautiful Rainbow Bird anymore. – Oh no! – What happened? 9) The Rainbow Bird was falling down. “I’m falling,” he whispered. “I’m falling. I will die.” 10) Father Sun couldn’t see the Rainbow Bird anymore. “Where are you, Rainbow Bird?” “I can’t see you. What happened?” – But there he was: The beautiful Rainbow Bird. He was not on fire anymore. But he was all black. 11) Father Sun could see the Rainbow Bird now. But he was not beautiful. He was all black. “Oh dear. What have I done!”, shouted Father Sun. “I set you on fire! And now, you are all black!” And Father Sun started to cry. He was crying and crying. He couldn’t stop crying. And – at last – it was raining. It was raining on the trees. And the trees became green again. It was raining on the flowers and the flowers became beautiful again. It was raining on the grass. And the grass became green again. 12) And all the animals could eat and drink again. And all the animals were very happy. But what about the Rainbow Bird? He wasn’t beautiful anymore. He was all black. He was a crow. But all the animals loved the crow. Why? Because the crow had saved all their lives.

The table is ready for the Christmas dinner with a big turkey. The Christmas tree is decorated with candles, baubles and a star. There are many Christmas presents under the Christmas tree. A new skateboard is for Lily and the computer game is for Ben. Merry Christmas.

Sugar is sugar and tea is tea. I love you. Do you love me? I like you, I like you, I like you so very well. If I had a peanut, I’d give you the shell. I like you, I like you with my heart and soul. If I had a doughnut I’d give you the whole.

46. Text: It’s Valentine Valentine’s Day is on the 14th of February. It is a very special day in Great Britain and it is very popular in Germany, too. In England people send letters or Valentine cards to people they love or they like very much. The more cards you get the more popular you are. Sometimes you don’t put your name under the letter or card to keep it a secret. You just put XXX instead of your name on the card. So the person who gets the letter or card can only guess who sent it. She or he doesn’t know who the letter is from. That is a lot of fun, because you can only guess. And you don’t know for sure. At the beginning of February you can see wonderful Valentine Cards in the shop windows. Sometimes there are nice flowers or poems on the front. I want to make my own cards this year. I must find a nice rhyme to write on the card. Which rhyme do you like best? Have you got a favorite one?

47. Text: Easter Easter is in spring, in March or in April. People in Europe and in America celebrate Easter. Sometimes it’s warm and sunny at Easter. Sometimes it’s cold and even snowy. But all the children wait for the Easter bunny to bring chocolate eggs, jelly bears and other sweets. The Easter bunny is brown and has got two long ears. He lives in the forest, but at Easter he brings the chocolate Easter eggs. Children look for the eggs in the grass or sometimes in the trees. Sometimes they even find Easter baskets.

48. Song: Down in the forest Down in the forest, early in the morning. See the little Easter bunnies all in a row. Eggs in their baskets brightly painted, Ready, steady (clap, clap, clap) off they go.
