WELCOME MESSAGE

Dear Distinguished Guests,

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) account for around 90 percent of businesses in the APEC region and employ as much as 60 percent of the work force. The innovation by entrepreneurs is extremely important to drive the growth of new industries and to break through the crisis when the global economy is currently facing great uncertainties. It has long been a key APEC agenda to promote entrepreneurships, remove trade barriers and enhance SMEs global competitiveness to achieve sustainable growth.

Built on the efforts to assist start-ups and entrepreneurs in the APEC region, the APEC Start-up Accelerator Initiative (ASA) has been raised by the SMEWG since 2012 and is designed to provide entrepreneurs and start-ups with better access to mentorships and funding through events and communities. By hosting the ASA Leadership Summit 2013, we genuinely seek to connect entrepreneurs with the innovation needs of the enterprises, build international business relationships, and facilitate fundraising activities. The corresponding event, the Intel APEC Challenge, sponsored by APEC and Intel Cooperation certainly brings a sense of excitement along with tenseness. It is a golden opportunity for entrepreneurs as well as the public and private sectors to exchange experience and conduct effective communication for mutual benefits.

We believe that you will find the 2-day event constructive and fruitful. If you need any assistance at any time during your stay in Taipei, all of our staffs will be pleased to assist you.

Sincerely yours,

Dear Distinguished Guests,

As a global technology leader, Intel knows that innovation and entrepreneurship are absolutely essential to build and sustain economic development. In fact, innovation is the lifeblood of our company, which is why we take great pleasure in welcoming all the guests, innovators, and entrepreneurs to the APEC Start up Accelerator Leadership Summit and Intel APEC Challenge here in Taipei, Taiwan.

We believe this event is particularly important because the Member Economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation account for approximately 40% of the world's population, approximately 54% of the world's gross domestic product, and about 44% of world trade. In addition, it is known that Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) are important drivers of economic growth around the world, and they can make major contributions to global economic development and recovery, especially in the areas of job creation, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Intel Corporation, in partnership with governments, academia, non-profit organizations, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and private enterprise, works to meet the challenge of harnessing the power of entrepreneurship to promote economic development around the world. Our collaboration with APEC Start-up Accelerator (ASA) is one example of our work to support and enhance the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the APEC region.

Intel’s innovations over the last four decades have impacted lives, business and societies around the world. Our ongoing commitment to education, the environment, and health care are deeply rooted in the belief that empowering people, and enabling innovation and entrepreneurship, are crucial ingredients to worldwide socio-economic transformation.

We believe this two day event will provide many opportunities for you to learn valuable information, to engage and mentor others, to share and acquire knowledge, and to showcase ideas and innovations. We look forward to this collaboration which is sure to make this a wonderful and fruitful experience for all of the distinguished guests, particularly the young entrepreneurs.

About APEC Start-Up Accelerator Leadership Summit

In alignment with APEC 2013 theme “Resilient Asia-Pacific: Engine of Global Growth” to achieve sustainable growth with equity by encouraging member economies to pay attention to next generation trade and investment issues, promoting SMEs development, and improving access to global markets, the APEC Startup Accelerator Initiative serves as a platform for member economies to assist startups and young entrepreneurs in building their capacities through networking, mentoring, and funding. The ASA Leadership Summit will allow SMEs and startups to identify possible opportunities and to raise capital while enhancing their capacities through networking with high profile, accomplished CEOs.

The leadership summit takes form in a symposium style, which includes plenary sessions and numerous panel discussion sessions. The esteemed speakers, startup founders, business executives and policymakers from APEC economies will discuss how industries in transition can grow and prosper from a broad perspective, including policy, finance, law, innovation and business strategy.

The ASA Leadership Summit will benefit entrepreneurs, start-ups, the private sector and government, while enhancing the potential for regional commerce and economic growth.

• For entrepreneurs and start-ups, it would mean better accessibility to established mentors and regional funding to help them launch successful start-ups.

• For the private sector, APEC corporations and businesses would get a chance to acquire and fund start-ups that are related to their own strategic interests and to booster innovation in APEC economies.

• For government, it would mean more cooperation between private and public incubators and encourage trade among participation APEC economies.

Our company aims at developing an affordable visual aid suited for a low vision patient in India, which has

over 11 million people with low vision. We have come up with a low cost real time video processing unit

which takes in a video input fo the surroundings, processes it and displays on wearable video glasses. We

have tested the product on Low Vision patients in one of India's leading eye care center, Sankara

Nethralaya and have taken their valuable feedback. The feedback given for the product by low vision

patients was overwhelming. Our vision is to help low vision patients lead a more normal life and help them

contribute more to the society by helping them be more self-reliant.

When we started to develop Evenesis in 2010, our focus is very simple and clear. Our proposition is to challenge the traditional ways of doing things in event planning industry in this region. We want to rejuvenate and modernize the way people in South East Asia doing events. Here in this region, the people in the industry are still using manual ways to do planning and managing their events. We see there is a lot of room for improvement and through technology; we know for sure we can provide them with the right tools to automate some of the event planners’ tedious work. Challenging a status quo is not a popular move around this region, but we are crazy enough to answer that challenge. At Evenesis, we care about our customer. In real plain simple words, we go extra miles when it comes to our customers. Without them, there won’t be Evenesis. Because of that, we pay attention to every detail in what we develop for them. Of course, there are plenty of spaces that we need to improve on the system level. We can assure you that “improvement” is a verb here in this company. We deliver changes to the system on daily basis. And we want the users to experience the best from us.Our team is small and yet, we have giant list of things we need to build in order to deliver the highest quality features to our users. Our team members are diverse in culture and professional skills. We respect each other but we demand the best from each other. We make mistakes, we learn quickly from them, and always ask ourselves, “How can we make things better?”. We work hard, we kick our own butt sometimes far beyond our own wanting, but we also have fun while doing that. We want everybody in the company to have fun at what they are doing and at what they are contributing back to the users. Love begets love. Our story does not end here. We want to keep creating new chapters in our story. We also want you to be part of our story. Write to us if you like our system. Write to us if you are not satisfied with our product. We listen.

UR-code: A new solution to replace QR-code

UR-code provides an innovative and convenient way for people to search for information using camera

phones without QR-code. Users can look up product information, including specifications, prices and reviews,

simply by ‘scanning’ the items they are interested in. Smartphone changes the way consumers shop. It is

used everywhere, including home, transportation and retail stores. 69% users have used Smartphone in a

store to compare prices and search for reviews, key factors that influence their final purchase decision. That

is why we proposed a fast interactive way for users to check products which they are interested in. After 3

years research and development, we successfully build this mobile visual searching engine for any business

enterprise. They could adopt our solution to provide this kind of mobile service for their customers. We think

mobile commerce will change consumer behavior dramatically. Now we have some successful cases in

Taiwan and hope we could export this innovative solution to overseas market.
