Date/Time- Friday September 28th, 9:00am- 2:30pm San Diego, CA. (Friday September 28th, 2007 9:00am- 2:30pm) – San Diego’s own Switchfoot will be rocking with instruments of a different kind as they help build homes with San Diego Habitat for Humanity on September 28th in their hometown. The build helps kick off the band’s “Appetite for Construction” tour, a 30-city tour that also will help people in need of safe, decent, affordable housing realize the dream of homeownership. Switchfoot is teaming up with their good friends from Ohio, Relient K, to donate $1 from each ticket sold to benefit Habitat for Humanity. The partnership with Habitat for Humanity began when the bands were discussing ways to give back to the community and discovered they shared a mutual respect for the organization. The Appetite for Construction tour runs between October and December 2007. “I think this is a great opportunity to give back to our community,” says Switchfoot lead vocalist Jon Foreman. “We, as a band, have a responsibility to help not only the folks who need a safe, affordable home, but to let our fans know that we can all do our part to make the world a better place. Habitat for Humanity is a great fit for us and we are honored to be working with such a wonderful organization.” “San Diego Habitat for Humanity is tremendously excited for our build day with Switchfoot,” comments Elizabeth Neubrand, Director of Development and Community Affairs with San Diego Habitat for Humanity. “The band’s involvement in humanitarian causes perfectly parallels the mission of Habitat for Humanity. Switchfoot’s giving spirit and concern with social justice will positively impact families in need right here in their hometown of San Diego. It is clear they are benevolently using their public position as a means to better the lives of others. We are grateful for the time they are taking to build along side with us!” Recognized as one of the hardest touring bands in rock, San Diego based Switchfoot has sold more than one million concert tickets worldwide since the 2003 release of its double-Platinum breakthrough album The Beautiful Letdown. Following the massive success of this album was an ever-growing fan base and continuous international touring in support of its next two critically acclaimed albums, Nothing Is Sound and Oh! Gravity.
