• The Materials Testing Laboratory is an accredited

laboratory under the Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation

Scheme (HOKLAS) since 1995. The Laboratory provides

manufacturing support and testing services on materials, surface coatings and product failure analysis, as well as

consultancy services

• The major testing activities of Materials Testing Laboratory

including, determination of chemical composition for metal

alloy, corrosion resistance test, quality control test on

surface finished product, physical properties test, failure analysis and consultancy service.

Electromagnetic Compatibility Centre (EMC)

• Came into service since 1997 with the aid of funding from the Industry and Technology Council of the Hong Kong Government

• As an independent laboratory– Offer EMC testing services pursuant to the latest international and

regional testing standards.

• Achievements– Hong Kong Accreditation Services (HKAS) accredited testing laboratory

(pursuant to ISO 17025 requirements)

– ISO 9001 certification issued by HKQAA

– Registered test facility under FCC in United States

– Recognized Local Certifications Body (LCB) by Telecommunications Authority (TA) to perform technical evaluation and certification under Hong Kong Telecommunications Equipment Evaluation and Certification (HKTEC) Scheme

Service Target

• Provide testing services for major EMC aspects pursuant to

international EMC standards for broad range of electronic products

(information technology equipment, household appliances, rolling

stocks apparatus, radio/ telecommunications equipment, etc) in

supporting the industries including :

New Standards and

Challenges

• New EMC Requirements post New Technical Challenges:

• Updated technical requirements of EMC Chamber and relevant measurement methods of radiated emission for 1 to 18GHz is stipulated in the published Basic Standard CISPR 16-1-4:2007;

• Traditional type of EMC Chamber (e.g. HKPC’s Semi-Anechoic Chamber) cannot meet the latest test site requirements for frequency above 1GHz

=> Fully-Anechoic Chamber is required;

• Product Standard for information technology equipment(i.e., EN 55022) was issued in response to the aforesaid changes, and will be fully implemented on 1 Oct 2011;

� To support local T&C industries, electronicmanufacturing and trading industries, HKPC wasgranted a funding for development of a new EMCChamber.

Functions of New

EMC Chamber

The new EMC Chamber is targeted to be completed in early 2011, and

a) will be capable of serving as a new testing site for the following purposes:

• Radiated Emission - Measurements of radio disturbance field strength for frequency range from 1GHz to 18GHz (current chamber limited at 1GHz); and

• Radiated RF field immunity testing for frequency range from 80MHz to at least 6GHz (current chamber limited at 1GHz);

b) can perform tests as according to the latest international requirements (e.g., EN55022, EN 61000-4-3, CISPR 25, ISO 11452-2, ETSI standards)

Reliability Testing Centre• The current Reliability Testing Centre was established in 1989.

• Its mission is to provide supporting services to enhance the reliability performance of products, processes and design of the electronicsand other industries. The Centre also works closely with other testing laboratories complementing the capabilities in equipmentand technical know-how.

– The only IBM appointed PCB Qualification Testing Laboratory in Asia.

• The market needs have created tremendous opportunities for small, local businesses if they can access the right tools

and support to take advantage of the emerging

possibilities.

• There are over hundreds of SMEs involved in these

businesses and the Centre plans to be a platform by

bringing together all interested parties of users and labs in

the high reliability electronics industry.
