Literacy Marvel needs you! Competition time. We will write instructions so that you can too
become a superhero.
Comic Strip – We will be using exclamation marks and the suffix
–ing to create our own comic strips.
Good vs Evil – We will be using plenty of drama and the prefix un-
to compare our superheroes and their arch enemies.
Design a nemesis –
We will look at the motives of enemies and write about our own versions.
Letter from the Queen – Great Britain needs
our help. We will be writing to the Queen to explain to her
how our superhero team can help save Great Britain from an intergalactic enemy.
Superhero time -
We will be independently creating our own superheroes, villains and settings for our own
saga.
Understanding of the World HISTORY: A real life super hero!
We will look at the life of Mary Seacole and her help during the Crimean War. We will think about
Florence Nightingale. We will compare the nurses (above) with modern
day army nurses.
SCIENCE: Everyday Materials Design an outfit for our own superhero.
Natural vs Man-made powers – comparing such powers as breathing fire or a boomerang shield like
Captain America. Use a Venn diagram to compare the armour of
Batman and Iron Man.
Computing: Networks and the Internet Recognise common uses of information technology
beyond school – we will follow on from our e-safety day.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development PSCHE: Relationships
Identify the people who are important in our lives,
including those who we care for and who care for us. We will learn how to recognise feelings of jealousy in role
as superheroes. We will celebrate others’ successes.
We will learn about how a super power does not have to include hurting others.
R.E.: The Church
We will learn about the church: The Church is the Christian community
The Church building: objects and symbols in churches Sunday as a special holy day
Develop understanding of worshipping together – including reading from the Bible (the special book for
Christians), listening to stories, singing and praying. Important ceremonies e.g. baptisms and weddings.
We will invite a rector from a local church to see us.
Physical Development Athletics (2): We will develop our movement skills by becoming
teams of avengers. Throw a variety of objects using sending and
receiving skills, changing action for accuracy and distance.
Create a short sequence linking together a variety
of superhero movements.
Mathematics Superhero shape busters –
Investigating the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. 2 weeks.
Multiplication and division –
We will help Superman to calculate groups of kryptonite and share his powers with his superhero friends.
2 weeks.
Superhero Party Time -
We will be practising cutting cakes and sandwiches in halves
and quarters to share with our superhero friends. 2 weeks.
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it’s Superman!
We will be telling our friends where Superman is using whole,
half, quarter and three-quarter turns.
Expressive Art and Design ART: Materials (Pattern)
We will make a range of superhero accessories for our display, role play and for children to wear using
a wide range of patterns.
Music: Experiment with, create, select and combine sounds
using the interrelated dimensions of music
