Sunnyside Adventist Church Communiqué News & Announcements Sabbath, September 28, 2019 Sunnyside Advenst Church • 10501 SE Market Street • Portland, Oregon 97216 • 503-252-8080 • www.SunnysideAdvenst.org Dear Church Family, In the Bible and in life, the crowd is almost always wrong. The crowd demanded a tower to save themselves after the flood. The crowd demanded a golden calf. The crowd demanded a king so that Israel could be just like all the other empires. The crowd cheered and jeered Jesus and yelled, "Crucify Him! Crucify Him!" Often, the crowd needs a scapegoat to ease their conscience and make their existence righteous in their own eyes. Whether it's a praying prophet in Babylon, a woman caught in adultery or an angry mob dragging Steven to the outskirts of the city, the crowd can only be appeased by the sacrifice of a scapegoat. This week we are going to see a crowd, an attempted scapegoating and Jesus standing with His faithful few in the fires of hell. The call for us, His children, is to stand up for the right even though we have been made the scapegoat; to stand in the face of threats and taunts. This, of course, is the call of Jesus, for us to take up our cross and follow Him. Revelation 14:12 This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus. Pastor Mark Witas Send your “shout-outs” to [email protected] so we can include them in next week’s Communiqué. This is a place you can recognize someone for doing well or going beyond expectations.
