Did you know that City of Surprise’s Recycle Program brings in NOTHING financially to the city? It sends all of its recycle to the City of Glendale’s recycle station. In exchange, Surprise does not have to add to their garbage landfill. However, when you donate to the LIONS RECYCLE CENTER in the Main Parking Lot, all money raised from recycling goes for various projects in Sun Village. So, please keep recycling newspapers, paper, cardboard, phone books, aluminum cans and shredded paper in our LIONS RECYCLE CENTER. Eyeglasses and cases, hearing aids, and cellphones can also be recycled in the Service Center as well as the Recycle Center. Let’s make CASH from stuff. We appreciate all your support and hope to see you at some of our events throughout the season!

COMPLIANCE CORNER Thanks for asking!

HOLIDAY SEASON DECORATIONS

According to the Architectural Standards decorations must be removed by January 7th.

2018 VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE OPENINGS

There will be several openings on one of the Sun Village Communities Volunteer Committees for 2018 including the

Architectural Committee & Covenants Committee. If you are interested in serving your community and maintaining the

Village’s Architectural Standards; consider submitting your application for these very important Committees.

Architectural Committee Meetings are held at 9:30 A.M on the first Thursday of each month in the Ocotillo Room. Applications to

apply for the Architectural Committee will be available from the Community Standards Office starting December 23RD and must be

received no later than February 1st 2018.

The Covenants Committee meetings are held as needed. Applications to apply for the Covenants Committee are available starting

January 1st from the Community Standards Office and must be received no later than February 24th 2018. Interviews will be held in

early February 2018. The Board of Directors will confirm the appointments at their meeting in February.

HOME UPGRADES & REPAIRS

What the Architectural Committee Does for You ...

Are you getting ready to make an upgrade to your house like installing a paver driveway & walkway, or new upgraded windows?

Before you break out the tools and start, make sure to get your plans approved by our Architectural Committee or Community

Standards department. While it may seem arbitrary from an individual homeowner’s standpoint, the Architectural Committee looks

out for the entire community. Aside from stopping residents from painting pink polka dots on their houses, the committee’s job is to

make sure that the size and style of the project, the type of building materials being used and the overall look of the new structure

adhere to the association’s design requirements. Of course, it’s also important to note that unapproved structures might legally have

to be removed at the owner’s expense, so save yourself money and headaches by getting approval before building.

Custom Applications – Are for projects that Will Require an Architectural Committee approval before starting such as: Paver Drive-

ways, Walkways and Patios, New Window Upgrades Patio Covers and Pergola’s, Awnings, Room Additions and large landscaping

jobs just to name a few.

Standard Applications – Are for projects that Do Not require an Architectural Committee approval, only the Community Standards

manager and can be approved on the spot with the correct Standard Application form filled out. Projects like Exterior Painting, light

landscaping, Satellite TV, Storage Containers, Security Screen Doors, Roof Repairs & Air Conditioning work are just a few

examples of projects that require no waiting to start your project.

Custom Applications TRUE / FALSE

• Architectural Committee Approval meetings for Custom Applications are only held on the 1ST Thursday of each month.

TRUE * You may start your project once the committee signs off on your application.

• Once you turn in your paperwork for your Custom Application, you can start your job even if the committee has not reviewed

your paperwork.

FALSE *See #1

• The deadline for you to turn in your Custom Application & Paperwork are due into the Compliance & Standards office no later

than 7 days before the next meeting.

TRUE *Turning your paperwork in just before the meeting will mean that you will be on the next month’s schedule or that you

will bring your paperwork to the meeting and ask the committee to look at your application

NOTE: Make sure that you correctly scheduled your project start date with your contractor doing the work. Our schedule to get your

project approved cannot revolve around your contractor’s schedule of availability.
