  • Telling Tales Mon 14th & Mon 21st July

    11am 4pm / Age 8-12 / 10Come armed with your wildest imagination, as

    you start out writing your very own short story before bringing it to life with the use

    of photography. On the second session, the whole group will come together to develop one

    story into a fully-fledged film! Dreamer to film-maker in just 2 days!

    Songwriting with Robert GilliesFri 18th July / 3pm 9pm / Age 14+

    A former Stirling native, Robert Gillies is a singer-songwriter whos tasted success out in

    the US, co-writing a hit single, appearing on the Ellen Show, and releasing the award-winning EP Astronaut. This is your chance

    to take part in a songwriting masterclass with Robert, including the opportunity to play in

    support of his show live at the Tolbooth later that evening.

    Portrait Photography Tue 22nd July / 11am 1pm / Age 8-12years / 5

    A fun and hands-on introduction to editing photography using computer software. Start with portrait shots of you and your friends and use

    Photoshop to overlay different textures, styles and filters, before printing the results!

    A Hidden WorldTue 22nd July / 2pm 4pm / Age 8-12 years / 5

    Explore the natural world around the Tolbooth by taking macro close-up photographs before bringing them back inside to make detailed

    images on light boxes. A quick and clever edit on Photoshop and youll leave with printed

    evidence of tiny life up-close.Tutor: Kenny Bean

  • Musician Skills 101Mon 24th and Tue 25th July / 11am 4pm / Age 12 + / FreeIn a band, act or perform solo? Looking to get gigs, record a demo, promote your act and build a following? Over 2 days, Musician Skills 101 takes you through all you need to know about instrument set-up/maintenance, building your own home studio, approaching promoters/venues, securing gigs, staging your own, and using new technology and social media to your advantage.     Music plays an important role in films, theatre shows and TV programmes, helping the audience

    to follow a story and to understand how the characters are feeling. Come along and work

    with theatre composer David Trouton, make up and perform your own music to underscore a story.

    Make Your Own Zine!Fri 8th August / 11am 4pm / Age 12+ / 10

    Fanzines or zines have been the underground and alternative voice of teenage enthusiasm and

    passion for music, art, film, poetry, writing and photography since the 1940s. The makers

    behind 2 current Scottish music and art zines will introduce you to the wild and limitless

    freedom of the artform and in the space of one day youll go home with your work in a

    collaborative zine and your head buzzing with ideas for your own!

    Trad Summer SessionFri 8th August / 10am 4pm / Age 10-18 / 5

    For musicians with 6 months experience of their instrument and beyond.

    Your chance to play traditional music for the first time or to develop and improve your

    playing and knowledge of traditional music and have lots of fun in the process.

    Tutors will include Tolbooth trad tutors Lori Watson (fiddle) and Innes Watson (guitar)

    with guest tutors on the day.
