Teacher’s Notes Sample Lesson based on “Egzamin Gimnazjalny. Repetytorium z testami”

The way you are

AIMS OF THE LESSON

1) Remind the students of the vocabulary connected with the topic of appearance and personality. 2) Activate the vocabulary through a number of activities including peer testing and speaking practice. 3) Prepare the students for a possible exam writing task, such as an e-mail or a letter describing eg. a new friend.

LEAD-IN

1) Ask the students to work in pairs and make a list of features they find attractive in other people. Suggest these two categories: appearance and personality. Prepare slips of paper and ask your students to write their words and expressions there. Allow 5 minutes.

2) In the meantime draw two columns on the board corresponding to the two categories above. When the students are ready with their ideas, encourage them to come up to the board and put their ideas in the relevant columns. Ask some students for explanations as to why they have chosen certain features.

VOCABULARY PRACTICE 1

1) Direct the students to Zadanie 1 . Shout out the Polish equivalents and ask the students to find the English equivalents to make sure the learners know the meaning of the lexical items and/or have the chance to remind themselves. Ask them to complete Zadanie 1 .

2) Ask the students to look at Zadanie 2 and underline all the vocabulary connected with appearance in the text. Put the students in pairs and ask them to tell each other to quickly draw the items eg. spotted trousers or freckles. Then get the students to complete the text.

VOCABULARY PRACTICE 2

1) Direct the students to Zadanie 3 . Ask the students to compare the adjectives with their own ideas on the board. Explain any vocabulary that the students may have forgotten. Ask the students to group the words accordingly.

2) When they finish, ask them to work in pairs again and test each other on the vocabulary they have just been working on. The students could just select 10 items each, and ask each other for the translation of the word/expression.

SPEAKING PRACTICE

1) Ask the students in work in pairs or groups of three and describe to each other/one another a) their best friend/friends b) their favourite musicians, actors, TV personalities c) people they met during their holidays.

2) Encourage the students to use the vocabulary they were practising in class. You may ask your students to count who uses the most of the presented vocabulary.

HOMEWORK

Ask your students to do Zadanie 1 . Encourage the students to make a list of expressions connected with one’s personality and behaviour.
