HISTORY OF STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONVENTION 2006 SLC ’06 started off with the leadership of Mr. Delakan as the director and Mr. Mahaganapathy Dass, our advisor. The theme for SLC ’06 was “Mahasiswa Pemangkin Kemajuan Masyarakat India” which means undergraduates will be the catalyst for the development on the Indian Community. The highlight in SLC ’06 was the submission of a memorandum pertaining to problems faced by our Indian Undergraduates from their respective institutions. 2007 In SLC ’07 under the leadership of Mr. Parthiban, a new vibe was created in SLC. With the theme “Pioneering Excellence”, we gave the delegates an experience that never before in the history of a project organized by undergraduates has ever been accomplished. The delegates experienced the technology of teleconferencing. This created a big impact and further reinforced the theme of SLC ’07. Furthermore, SLC ’07 was also the year for the branding of SLC by the design of a logo.

2008 Progressing to SLC ’08 the theme was “Be inspired to be a Transformational Leader” under the direction of Mr. Vinoth Kumarasamy, we improved our organizational approach. Tasks have been carried out in a professional way to create corporate environment with the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P) and Key Performance Index (K.P.I). In regards to the essence of the convention, four main subjects of concern were formed. They are Leadership, Career, Entrepreneurship and Community Service. Besides that, SLC ‘08 came up with a plan called “THE RM10 PLAN”, which calls for every Indian Undergraduate to contribute RM10 every month to aid Tamil Schools which are lacking in basic amenities such as tables and chairs. In addition, the greatest achievement of SLC ’08 was having Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India to give a public lecture in University of Malaya. 2009 “Revolution towards Dynamism” was not merely the theme for the previously conducted SLC but it showed that SLC ’09 was successfully conducted reflecting dynamism and vigour. Enthusiasm among the organizing committee and first female director Ms. Kamalashne Jayabalan, SLC did not show any signs of slowing down with the conception of a workshop oriented convention and inviting even more prominent figures not only locally but internationally. A union of delegates since SLC ’06 until SLC ’08 have been accomplished by us organizing a grand closing dinner.

2010 SLC 2010 was under the reins of Director Mr. Kumareshan Krishnan, upholding the theme “Ignite the Leader Within”. SLC 2010 was bold enough to embrace changes and change was all it needed to be a step ahead. It was a mission to put the delegates in flames in order to light up the leader within them. We reckon this could produce competent leaders to meet the current demands of the world. Well known speakers from various disciplines were present during the convention. 243 enthusiastic delegates from 33 public and private institutions were present. All the delegates sat together under one roof gaining input and lifting the spirit of leadership in them for the betterment of our community. SLC ‘10 has sent in resolutions to the Prime Minister’s office regarding challenges faced by our community as the main concept of SLC is to create a platform for the Indian undergraduates in Malaysia to gather, gain knowledge and confront issues involving the Indian community.
