The choir performed along side 3000 other students and in front of a massive audience. It was such a daunting experience but our Choir and Mrs Doherty were just brilliant. Everyone who performed should be so proud of themselves as we are of you. Thank you also to Mr Banks who supported Mrs Doherty and the Choir on the night of the performance. Last Friday, the P&C and staff celebrated all of our fathers, grandfathers or significant others with a breakfast in the Library. I am positive everyone who attended enjoyed the morning, especially brekky, and would like to thank our P&C for their organisation of the event. I would like to thank all staff who helped out with setting up and serving, as without the support of the great staff we have at Queens Park, mornings like the breakfast wouldnt run as smoothly as they do and did. I would also like to thank staff for their contribution to some of the raffle prizes that many of our fathers won. A special thanks to Crystal, Ashliegh and Pettrina, our wonderful mums who made the morning so special. As part of the athletics carnival, jumps and throws and 400m and 200m races were held on Monday in between the rain! All the students had a great time with the Monday events and are really excited about the athletics carnival today. Thank you to Mr Goodhill for organising and ensuring these events ran smoothly. Unfortunately, I had to make the very difficult decision to postpone the athletics carnival until today. The short term forecast was for rain on Wednesday. As it turned out, there was rain in the morning and a couple of light sprinkles later in the day but it was moist, windy and very cold. I know many parents take leave from studies and work to attend the carnival and I thank you for your flexibility in chang- ing your arrangements.

Last Weeks Choir Assembly & One Big Voice Performance

Assembly and One Big Voice Wow! Last week was a huge week for our school choir. We performed a song by Perth band, Birds of Tokyo, at the assembly on Friday and then went to the RAC Arena to perform in the One Big Voice Concert. The excitement on the children’s faces when we entered the ‘bowl’ of the RAC Arena could be seen from the very back row. It’s not every day that children are given the opportunity to perform in a world class venue and Queens Park Primary School Choir did not take it for granted. They sang beautifully, listened intently and behaved exceptionally. I couldn’t have been more proud. The whole event had approximately 3000 students all singing pre practiced songs together. The power of singing and music was felt in the whole room as every child in the arena beamed as they were singing. An added surprise was a live performance from The Voice finalist – Jordan Anthony. “One of my favourite parts of the concert was getting to see Jordan Anthony Perform. I love his singing and I got to see a live performance for free! It was the best” - Thalia Yr6 Students watched in amazement when the audience took out the torches on their phones and lit up the audience stands like 10,000 fireflies. It was truly spectacular. A big thank you to Ian Banks who joined the excursion and assisted with the concert. I’d also like to say a big thank you to all the parents who continuously encourage and support their children in the school choir. The joy it brings them melts my heart every time. A final thank you as well to Julie and Steph who continue to support the choir at Queens Park Primary School and attended the concert to see our wonderful choir perform. From myself and everyone at Queens Park, the choir deserve a very big HIP HIP HOORAY! Kirsty Doherty – Music Teacher/Choir conductor

On Wednesday, at 2pm, the Year 5 and 6 students had some special guests visit. Three officers from the local police station came to Queens Park Primary School to discuss cyberbullying and online gam-ing. We were involved in an hour long discussion, followed by a question and answer session. We learned many things, including the difference between physical and verbal threats and the age at which you can be arrested. We also learned that roasting is bullying. We would like the thank the officers for their time and coming to speak to us. By Year 6 Students

excellence and are committed to value our society and environment.

We are pleased to announce that we will be participating in the Day for Daniel Fun Run on 1st November. The funds raised will be donated to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. Bruce and Denise Morcombe established the foundation in May 2005 in loving memory of their son Daniel. Since its inception, the Daniel Morcombe Foundation has worked tirelessly to educate communities on child safety strategies and support victims of crime involving children. The safety of the children in our community is paramount and we are proud to support the Daniel Morcombe Foundation continue its mission of keeping children safe. All fundraising is completed online, so once you’ve received your sponsorship forms and parent letter from your child, jump online at dayfordanielfun-run.com.au and create their personalised student profile page. With school holidays fast approaching it is imperative to set up your child’s profile. Once your page is created you can start sharing your fundraising link with family and friends and get fundraising! Not only will every donation raise awareness for child safety, raising just $10 will also earn your child a prize! Your first donation enters you into the draw to win a $20,000 Webjet Ultimate Family Experience! Also every donation is tax deductable so please share far, wide and often. We encourage you all to do your part in ensuring that the Day for Daniel Fun Run is a huge success. Hopefully that means full student engagement and community support. Kitchen Garden News Term 3

A BIG thank you to Bunnings in Cannington, in particular to Cathy the Activity Organiser, for donating new seedlings for the empty beds in the garden. The variety will certainly provide some great Kitchen meals in the near future. Bunnings were also generous in providing craft materials to make a brand new garden sign, as part of our garden project. We had lots of fun planning how the final outcome should look. A massive THANK YOU also goes to Mrs Ruddell and Alec (our Gardener) for their continued support. Last but not least, to our wonderful Room 3 and Room 4 students who happily participated on the day. Parents are welcome to come to view or assist in maintaining our garden especially on Wednesdays during lunchtime. Mrs McLeod RM 3 Teacher

Bunnings Donation

On Monday 19th of August our class and a few kids from next door went to the garden and

planted some seedlings. The seedlings were donated from Bunnings. They also donated a sign and some hats. A person called Cathy from Bunnings came too. Firstly, we went to the garden. Cathy was coming with the seedlings and the sign materi-als for the garden. After, we were split into two groups. One group were doing a sketch of the garden and preparing the sign and the other group were picking out the weeds in the garden in preparation of the seedlings. Then we swapped with the group that was sketching. Cathy let some people stay because they were doing a great job. We planted silver beet, broccoli, lettuce, some herbs, onions and strawberries. At the end, Cathy gave us each a Bunnings hat and a note to take home for Father`s Day family night invitation. It was being held at Bunnings. It was an exciting and surprising day. By Supra Room 3

School Banking day is Friday.

Remember, Friday is School Banking day and students should bring in their weekly deposit. It’s not too late to sign up! For every deposit made at school, students will receive a silver Dollarmites token. Once students have individually collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for an exclusive School Banking reward item in recognition of their regular savings habits. School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year. If your child has lost their book, they can bring their money to school in a sealed envelope with a note on the next School Banking day. We will issue them with a replacement. Thank you for supporting the School Banking program at Queens Park Primary. If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2019 School Banking program information pack from the school office (available in English, Arabic and Mandarin) or visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
