T he Parent Involvement Form (PIF) is a tool which YOU can use to keep track of the topics

being discussed in your children’s classes. It con-tains a list of topics per term which you could refer to in order to help your children study and prepare for class. This is the perfect opportunity for you to be more involved in their learning journey! That being said, please make sure that you have received one PIF per subject.

The school values feedback, so please don’t forget to return the reply slip to your child’s Homeroom Ad-viser, indicating that you have re-ceived a complete copy of the PIFs.

Heads up, caregivers and drivers of students: there will be an orientation/seminar on policies on fetching the stu-

dents on August 8, 2019 at the SSIS Main Hall. This session will aim to heighten awareness and strengthen collaboration among us so be sure to be there!

Valiant Knights Gear up for

Standardized and Diagnostic Tests

T he opening of the new school year is but high time to test students’ enduring understanding of the lessons taught in the previous years. Moreo-

ver, this new beginning is another opportunity for the school to better prepare for the students’ upcoming learning experiences.

Standardized tests provide an objective and relevant feedback to the school in terms of its quality and effectiveness of instruction against national norm and international standards.

SBA tests are administered to Grade School and High School students in subjects such as English, Math, and Science. SBA is based on an outcomes-based education philosophy. Far different from the tra-ditional teacher-made assessments, standardized tests evaluate the students’ performance, based on the re-quired standards per grade level, rather than comparing a student’s performance with other students.

SBA tests will be administered on August 9, except for Grades 4 and 8 Math and Grades 7-10 Sci-ence which will be for a later date. The schedule of ex-ams are seen on the right side of this article.

Diagnostic tests will also be facilitated in order to better catalogue the students’ abilities and learning

styles. Tests on Multiple Intelligences and Learning Styles will be taken by 3rd to 12th grade students on August 6-7 because the institution believes that the traditional understanding of intelligence does not suffice in explaining the wide variety of abilities that the students possess,

All the results of these tests will be used by the teachers and the school for the improvement of the institution’s curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

VALUE OF THE WEEK

Corner Parenting

: Setting Goals with Your Child “People with goals succeed because they know where they’re

going.” - Earl Nightingale

S cience says 92 percent of people don't achieve their goals. Perhaps, most of them have never learned how to effectively set their goals. You can help your child learn the skill of goal-setting, which is critical for developing grit and just

simply getting what you want out of life.

1. LET THEM CHOOSE THEIR BIG GOAL Ask questions like, “What’s something you wish you could achieve?” or “What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?” 2. DISCUSS THE PURPOSE OF THEIR GOAL Show interest and ask your child why they want what they want. Discussing this would not only enlighten you but may actually enlighten your child just by think-ing of the answer. 3. BREAK THE BIG GOAL INTO SMALLER STEPS Use the “goal ladder” to break down their big goal into simpler, more easily-attainable steps or objectives. 4. BRAINSTORM POTENTIAL OBSTACLES Encourage them to plan for potential obstacles. Talk about bad habits or neg-ative thoughts. Ask them, “if you feel like giving up, what would you want to do in-stead?
