Nurse’s Notes As the weather gets colder and we are spending more time inside, it is a prime time to spread illness

such as common colds and more serious illness such as influenza.

Preventing the Flu: Good Health tips to stop the flu in it’s tracks

The single best way to prevent seasonal flu is to get vaccinated each year, but good health

habits like covering your cough and washing your hands often can help stop the spread of

germs and prevent respiratory illnesses like the flu. There also are flu antiviral drugs that can

be used to treat and prevent the flu.

1. Avoid close contact - Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep

your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.

2. Stay home when you are sick - If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you

are sick. You will help prevent others from catching your illness.

3. Cover your mouth and nose - Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or

sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick.

4. Clean your hands - Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. If soap and

water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.

5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth - Germs are often spread when a person touches

something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or

mouth.

6. Practice other good health habits - Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home,

work or school, especially when someone is ill. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active,

manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.

**Students who have a fever of 100 degrees or above, vomiting, diarrhea or a contagious rash or illness should not attend school. They should be free of the illness or the condition for 24 hours before returning back to school. For further information on the influenza type and season, please click on the link below.

News from the

Library Media Center

All for Books Campaign:

Thank you to all of the families that donated to our All

For Books campaign! Stevenson Families raised

$200 in new books for our library, an amount that will

be matched by Scholastic to purchase books for chil-

dren in need. Congratulations to our winners of a

free book from our book fair: Juelz (2KS), JJ (3K),

Addi (4CS), and Braxton (5M).

Book Fair Update:

Our Scholastic Book Fair was a success this year. Our

Reading is Grand event was wonderful, and we are so

thankful for all the grandparents that came to shop

with their grandchildren. What a fun and busy hour!

A huge thank you to all of the volunteers that helped

shoppers, organized, and cleaned up after the event!

Finally, thank you to all of the families that stopped in

and purchased books for their homes. Because of

your support of your child’s reading, we will be able to

purchase new books for Stevenson’s LMC.

Overdue Books:

This month we will be sending overdue notices home

with students. We will be sending these home every

two weeks. We really appreciate the support parents

provide in making sure books are returned on time. If

a student has an overdue book, they cannot check

out another book until it has been returned. Thank

you for reminding your child to put his or her book

back in his or her backpack each day.

Some suggested items to donate: Macaroni & Cheese, soup, fruit juice, cookies, crackers, baby food,

formula, salad dressing, peanut butter, jelly, canned vegetables, canned tuna or chicken, rice, pasta,

onds into takeoff. The mission is “To Rendezvous with a Comet”. To achieve our

classroom STEM objectives, students study comets, practice communication,

problem solving, and math skills to enhance the experience of the field trip. The

specific class schedule is as follows:

HOLIDAYS ARE JUST AROUND THE CORNER.....

WHO DO YOU HAVE TO BUY FOR???

SUPPORT STEVENSON WHILE YOU DO YOUR HOLIDAY SHOPPING!!!

When you purchase Scrip Cards, you are purchasing

GIFT CARDS, which are used like cash.

Scrip fundraising is a no-selling program that allows families to raise money for Stevenson Elementary. Scrip is just another way to pay for

everyday purchases using gift cards in place of cash, checks, and credit cards.

You purchase gift cards from your organization at face value, and your coordinator orders those cards from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a re-

duced price. The difference is an instant rebate for your organization. It’s really that simple!

Just by using scrip to pay for your normal weekly, as well as all your holiday purchases, you can personally raise $500 or more per year.

It’s time to put your shopping dollars to work!

Still have questions or concerns? Contact Nicole Van Gilder, Stevenson Scrip Card Coordinator

Winter Weather

Please dress your children appropriately

for cold weather. Remember we are outside at lunch if the

wind chill is 20 degrees or above. In the event of severe win-

ter weather, WJBC is the official radio station that will an-

nounce school closings. Parents should listen to WJBC 1230

AM starting at 6:00 am to find out if school is closed.

Please make sure we have your current/correct phone

number. That is what will be called in case we do close

the school for the day.
