Lancaster • Summer 2018 Residential Recycling News We love seeing the excitement our trucks bring to the children in the neighborhoods we serve! Please remind them to be cautious around our trucks with these simple tips: Make sure your children are aware of what days/ times of day Waste Management trucks are in your neighborhood, so they can be on the lookout. Our trucks stop and back up frequently, so teach kids not to follow too closely on a bike, skateboard or skates. Every Waste Management truck is equipped with a back-up alarm, make sure your kids are familiar with the sound, and know to move out of the way when they hear it or see the white back-up lights. Teach your children to keep a safe distance from our trucks and never try to climb onto them. Please do not allow children to try to help load garbage onto the truck. Truck Safety Reminder Stay Safe This Summer! As you enjoy these last few months of summer, please keep safety in mind as well, with these simple tips on how to properly dispose of barbecue coals and pool chemicals: Always allow coals/ashes to cool for at least 48 hours in the grill, 72 hours for extra precaution. Once cooled, place coals/ashes in a metal container with a tight lid before placing them in your trash cart (never in your recycling or green waste cart). Never place coals/ashes in plastic, paper or wood containers. Do not dispose of pool cleaning chemicals in your trash or recycling carts. These chemicals are hazardous and require special disposal. You can drop off pool chemicals at the AVECC located at 1200 West City Ranch Rd. in Palmdale on the first and third Saturday of every month (except holidays), free of charge. The facility is open from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
