Any exhibitors that do not wish to buy a permit for their vehicle must park in the Luebbe’s Lot, which is on Stuhr Road across from the Fairgrounds or General Parking.

Everyone will still come through the Check-In Trailer but will not be allowed back into Brunk’s Lot to park without a permit. You do not need a parking permit to unload your animals on the fairgrounds. Once you unload, you must exit the fairgrounds.

WHAT IS A WEIGH CARD?

• Exhibitors will use the provided check scales to

check the weight of their pigs and write it down on

the card.

• They submit that card and show in the appropriate

weight class and division.

• The top hogs in each class will be re-weighed to

verify the hogs weight falls within the acceptable

range.

• This removes the weigh-in process, which will

diminish hog stress and risk for injury.

UPON ARRIVAL:

• Exhibitors will receive their Hormel and market

animal affidavits in their exhibitor packets.

• Exhibitors will pick up their weigh-in cards at the

livestock office Friday and Saturday. They will be at

the Check-in area on Sunday morning.

and will include the information from their entries.

Substitutions will still be allowed and changes

should be made on the card.

• Cards will also have space for stall #, aisle, and cell

phone #.

CHECK–IN (SUNDAY 7:30-10:30 AM):

• In Swine Barn – Most likely NW corner

• Exhibitors will have up until this time to check the weight and fill in their weigh-in cards for each pig. They will make any necessary changes on the weigh-in cards as well.

• Three scales will be provided in the barn. One scale will be marked “Official 4-H Scale” and will be used in the ring for weigh-backs, but all scales will be certified daily.

• Check-in area will have 2 or 3 lines for submitting cards. Exhibitors will also turn in Hormel sheets and drug affidavits at this time and will be analyzed for accuracy or problems.

• Anyone can turn in weigh cards on behalf of the exhibitor; however, it is encouraged to have someone with knowledge of your livestock turn in the cards, if not the exhibitor.

Page 32: STATE FAIR WEBINAR...diminish hog stress and risk for injury. SCHEDULE • Thursday (8 am)–Saturday (9:30 am) - Animal arrival. Check scales will be available everyday. Weigh-in

CHECK–IN (SUNDAY 7:30-10:30 AM):

• The weigh-in cards will be cross-referenced to make sure the pigs have been DNA’d and are eligible for state fair before the exhibitor leaves the check-in table. (This will hopefully reduce any issues that may arise during EID scanning. During the check-in we will input data into the computer that will go into ShoWorks.)

• ***THEY WILL NEED BOTH EID AND VISUAL ID ON THE CARD. DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO VERIFY THESE MATCH THE DNA ENVELOPE AND HOG BEFORE CHECK-IN (i.e. make sure they didn’t switch EIDs between hogs during tagging) ***

Page 33: STATE FAIR WEBINAR...diminish hog stress and risk for injury. SCHEDULE • Thursday (8 am)–Saturday (9:30 am) - Animal arrival. Check scales will be available everyday. Weigh-in

WAND AND TATTOO (PEN TO PEN):

• The wanding process will be used as a check to make sure that the pigs are indeed able to be shown by the exhibitor. This process should hopefully be done by 2:00-3:00 pm on Sunday. (Once check-in is complete, a ShoWorks sheet will be created to send to a couple iPads to be used for checking EID tags. Ideally, this sheet will have all of the entered hogs that are at the show with the correct exhibitors.)

• Tattooing will also need to take place after check-in. This process most likely will take place during EID wanding. Carts will be provided to move equipment through the aisle. Exhibitors do not need to be present and the EID scanning will be used to make sure we have accurate tattooing of animals. This will also tell us if we have missed any pigs (they could be in the wash rack or walking, etc.) If there are issues, the exhibitors will be contacted, which is why we are asking for cell phone.

• With it being the first year, it is difficult to say how long this will take.

Page 34: STATE FAIR WEBINAR...diminish hog stress and risk for injury. SCHEDULE • Thursday (8 am)–Saturday (9:30 am) - Animal arrival. Check scales will be available everyday. Weigh-in

SWINE CARCASS CONTEST:

• With changes to the weigh-in process, the carcass

contest will be optional for exhibitors. To be eligible

for the carcass contest, you must take your hog(s)

to the carcass ultra sound scanning area in the

swine barn on Sunday, September 4th from 7:30

AM-10:30 AM to be scanned.

• No additional fees to participate

• Premiums will be awarded and results and ribbons

will be sent out post fair

Page 35: STATE FAIR WEBINAR...diminish hog stress and risk for injury. SCHEDULE • Thursday (8 am)–Saturday (9:30 am) - Animal arrival. Check scales will be available everyday. Weigh-in

OTHER NOTES

• During the show (and show program), visible IDs will be used to verify the animal and won’t be scanned with EID scanner again.

• Re-weighs will take place in the class for at least the top 3 in each class with the same 5% variation from weigh-in weight. Judges can weigh-back as many as they like.

• Random DNA checks and drug testing will be conducted during the swine show instead of weigh-in.

• It will be easier for the exhibitors if they actually enter what they plan to bring – substitutions will be allowed, even between exhibitors, as long as the exhibitor name was on the DNA envelope, but it will save them time if they don’t have to re-write info that will be pre-printed from the entry.
