    ActivitiesReportSocial media continues providing quick, up-to-date routes for small and large businesses,nonprot organizations, politicians, and even celebrities. In a society where the process

    of sharing information is vital, social media allows for free publicity, advertisement, and

    internet trafc. This report ventures into the worlds of Twitter and, in Animal Charities

    Humane Societys case, Facebook, exploring why and how various entities use social media

    to their advantage.

    Abtract

    The following report focuses on why and how social media is

    used by various entities. Covering examples from small and large

    businesses, nonprot organizations, celebrities, and politicians,

    it determines what conclusions can be drawn when social media

    sites are chosen as a means of communication, particularly, the

    following companies:

    Warner Brothers Entertainment

    Paramount Pictures

    The Youngstown Playhouse

    Animal Charities Humane Society

    Habitat for Humanity

    Warner Brothers Entertainment Companys tweets primarily tweets about their next

    major feature lm release. Since January of 2013, the Warner Brothers Twitter account

    constantly promoted the feature lms, Jack the Giant Slayer and The Great Gatsby.

    Their timeline continues to release information about the cast, quotes, news highlights,

    directors, pictures, the ofcial premiere date, and more.

    Extremely active on Twitter, Warner Brothers Entertainments account posts numeroustimes throughout the day tweeting about movies, contests, and retweeting celebrity

    mentions such as Hugh Jackman. Throughout promotion of upcoming movies and good

    reviews, Warner Brothers keeps an informal, yet entertaining, tone.

    Giveaways and contests are also a part of the WBs tweeting. Winners of great prizes

    often are announced by means of Twitter. Links are provided to check out new trailer

    releases, such as The Hangover 3, getting fans excited and tweeting about future ofcial

    release dates and lms to see over the summer months.

    Frequently interacting with their followers, Warner Brothers retweet followers mentioning

    or giving positive reviews on WB movies. As another form of interaction with their

    followers, Warner Brothers Entertainment asks, Whos planning on seeing the Great

    Gatsby? and other similiar posts encouraging further interaction.

    Paramount Pictures takes a different approach to the way it uses social media

    than Warner Brothers Entertainment. Promotions aside, Paramounts Twitter

    account is a constant feed of up-to-date information. As soon as an actor,

    director, or new script is picked up, Paramounts Twitter conrms it with a

    small blurb followed by a link with more information. It acts as a reliable

    source to good movies and gives off a you are the rst to know vibe.

    Unlike Warner Brothers, Paramount Pictures uses its Twitter to promote another

    social media network the company keeps up with, Instagram. Paramount tweets

    Instagram pictures of their studio inside and out, adding a very real, personal

    touch to their followers. The lm company stays active tweeting several times

    per day releasing exclusive information and promoting movies and the new

    television show, Burning Love.

    Paramount tweets about award-winning Paramount lms, old and new, in an

    excited and informal tone. On their Twitter, they have created FlashbackFridays to celebrate Paramount classics.

    Local theater, the Youngstown Playhouse, stays relatively active on Twitter. Unlike

    larger companies, the Youngstown Playhouse does not tweet several times per day,

    but typically once per day. Their main use of Twitter consists of gaining trafc to

    their Facebook account. However, in addition to promoting their Facebook page,

    the Youngstown Playhouse still manages to tweet about audition announcements,

    upcoming shows, and how to make reservations.

    Youngstown Playhouse also promotes other local theaters including Youngstown State

    Universitys theater, the Oakland, and the Rustbelt. Similar to the larger companies,

    the theater does tweet links to any news articles concerning their business.

    Tweeting in a casual tone, the theater tweets about available seating, contact

    information, and updated information on current shows.

    CHARITIES

    Another local business, Animal Charities Human Society, uses social

    media to their advantage. Nonexistent on Twitter, Animal Charities

    relies solely on Facebook to communicate with their audience.

    Facebook allows for an extended prole including a history of the

    company as well as multiple forms of contact information.

    Overall, Animal

    Charities focuses on

    getting their animals

    into good, healthy

    homes. Their use of

    photo albums is fully

    devoted to animals

    still in need of homes

    as well as lost pet

    advertisements. The

    majority of Facebook

    posts are pictures

    of pets available for

    adoption.

    Animal Charities

    stays up-to-date

    and active. The

    posts are written in

    a somewhat urgent

    tone. Their need for

    help is apparent.

    They post about

    need for donations

    and volunteer

    opportunities. The company is very interactive with their audience andresponds to inquiries an exceptionally timely manner.

    Updating events frequently, Animal Charities Humane Society posts

    rescue of the week, holiday animals, goals reached, and pictures of

    pets who have been adopted now reside in happy homes.

    Nonprot organization, Habitat for Humanity, stays up-to-date on Twitter by posting

    links to stories involving their accomplishments upcoming projects. Habitat for

    Humanity also frequently shows volunteer appreciation by tweeting followers who

    helped at local events. For those who cannot lend a hand during events, Habitat forHumanity tweets ways to help the environment every day including a list of objects

    people do not typically recycle.

    Twitter serves as an outreach to people looking to improve the way the environment

    is viewed and treated. Habitat posts current volunteer opportunities followed by

    photos of all who helped the cause. Like large companies, Habitat for Humanity

    posts several times per day.

    to post random facts about animals and links to news articles multiples times per da

    Word Wildlife interacts with their followers answering questions and retweeting pictur

    of followers with wild animals.

    Actor, screenwriter, comedian, director, and producer, Seth Rogen,

    promotes his new movies and other comedians and humorous

    television shows. His posts are interesting and usually funny. His tone

    is very casual and tweets about what he is doing, guest appearances,magazine articles, and jokes.

    Seth Rogen retweets funny tweets from his followers and encourages

    them to follow upcoming artists and Hilarity for Charity. Rogen

    remains interactive with his followers. He had a month-long joke going

    on how it was him hosting the Oscars instead of Seth Macfarlane.

    promote his own books, but instead promotes other authors debut

    about events going on in the general writing community.

    John Green uses his Twitter account to bring trafc to his YouTube

    weblog.

    The Clinton Foundation is a Twitter account devoted to what all of the

    Clintons are contributing to America through the foundation started by

    former president, Bill Clinton. Tweeting roughly every other day, theClinton Foundation tweets include political views, support for current

    President Obama, and links to news articles.

    The Clinton Foundations tweets are professional and informative

    including events, volunteer dates, and Clinton appearances. Thought

    the account is professional, the Clinton Foundation occasionally tweets

    faulty links.

    President Barack Obama is extremely active on his Twitter account. He

    tweets a generous amount throughout the day. He tweets political andinspirational quotes along with his political reviews. His account appears

    to be primarily used to inform followers of current movements in politics

    and political debates. Obama also posts pictures of his latest appearances

    and his attempts to bring about change in America.

    Conclusion

    In conclusion, anyone can use social media to their advantage whether it be for

    promotions, personal outlets, or to help gain trafc to another site. Tweets or

    Facebook posts depend on the audience targeted and what the user wishes toget out of social media. Small businesses might prefer to be more interactive

    while large businesses prefer to be more informative. Nonprots may focus on

    gathering donations and volunteers while celebrities and authors prefer to help

    future artists.

    Commonalities show that the more active the account, the more followers and

    Facebook likes the account receives. The key rule is do not follow everyone who

    follows you, but do let followers and Facebook friends know that the account is

    open for interactions. It is also ideal to keep all information and posts up-to-dateand all links functional.
