    Council of Catholic Women

Join us the third Tuesday of each month, September thru May for Mass at 7:00 P.M., followed by a 7:30 P.M. meeting and light refreshments.

Are you registered in the parish? Please do not take for granted that you are registered in the parish just because you attend mass here. If we have no record of your parish membership it could be quite embarrassing to us, or to you or your family, when someone wishes to make wedding plans, have a baby baptized, or if you have been asked to act as a sponsor for baptism or confirmation. Please fill out a census form, which is located at the entrances of the Multi Celebrational Building (MCB), and mail it to the parish office, or place it in the collection basket.

    Baptism

Baptisms are celebrated on Sunday after the 12:00 Noon Mass. Parents must be registered and active members of the parish for at least three months. No confirmed dates are given before approval by the pastor. Contact the parish office two months in advance. Godparents must be confirmed, practicing, Roman Catholics and must obtain a sponsor certificate from their parish. In order to avoid disappointments, do not book travel plans with family, Godparents, etc. until a confirmed date has been assigned through the parish office (561) 966-8878.

    Marriages

Notify the parish office at least four months in advance.

    Ministrations to the Sick

We appreciate knowing when a parishioner is in the hospital or homebound. Please call the parish office.

    GIVE GOD THE GLORY

A curious feature of the first half of Mark's Gospel is the pattern of Jesus working a miracle, then telling the recipient of the miracle to keep still about it. Many theories have been offered: Mark is setting the stage for the great "secret" revealed when Peter will proclaim Jesus the Messiah at Caesarea Philippi; more skeptical commentators offer that Jesus, fully aware of human nature, knew that the way to spread the news was to tell people to keep it secret. The insight into this secret-keeping that serves us well, however, is that Jesus was initiating his public ministry according to the pattern that Paul de- scribes. He was doing it for the glory of God--not for his own benefit, but for that of all. Paul would later write in Philippians that Jesus "humbled" him- self to become like us. And we see this humility at work in today's healing of the leper. Jesus is trying to reveal the presence of God's reign among the people, not so that he himself might receive the glory, but so that God would be glorified through him. Imitating this pattern, which Paul encourages the Jewish and Greek Christian factions in Corinth to do, still serves us well today.

The leper will dwell apart, making an abode outside the camp (Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46).

I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation (Psalm 32).

Do everything for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31 -- 11:1).

The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean (Mark 1:40-45).
