NOT AGAINST US Like Moses before him, Jesus corrects his disciples’ misunderstanding of the gift of the Spirit. They saw people who were not of their company casting out demons and doing other works such as Jesus had done. Jesus points out that no one who does a good deed in his name can be opposed to him at the same time. He goes on to point out the importance of the “little ones,”: the poor, simple people, children, the meek ones who are not important in the world. It is to them that he was sent, not to the wealthy and the self-righteous. He underscores the importance of small works done in faith, as well as big works like driving out demons. “Anyone who gives you a cup of water . . . because you belong to Christ . . . will surely not lose his reward” (Mark 9:41). God builds the coming reign little by little in our actions, however small and unassuming, when they are done out of love of God and neighbor. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Construction Update Final grading around the site is nearing completion, with work beginning on the Vance Jackson parking area. Retaining walls are being constructed. Pouring of walks and curbs and other site work has been delayed by the weather. Finished materials and painting are continuing on the interior. Interior door and hardware installation have begun. Tile work and ceiling finish work has begun. Wood gym flooring has begun. The combination of the added work between the school and gym and delays by the city in resolving utility access have contributed to time delays, in addition to the weather conditions. Over-all the project is currently scheduled for substantial completion in mid-November. For a virtual tour to see progress on the inside and outside of the building, go to: https://spaces.hightail.com/space/VrhVBgbwuB. This weekend a second collection will be taken up for the Archdiocese Hope for the Future/Catholic Schools/ This fund grants tuition assistance for over a thou-sand recipients to our local Catholic schools, including our own school

LIFE TO LIVE Life to Live is a hope-filled event scheduled October 8, 2018, from 6:30-9:30 pm at the SEC Ballroom on the campus of The University of the Incarnate Word. Life to Live was inspired by those suffering quietly with mental health issues. Sui-cide is the second leading cause of death for youth 10 years old to 18 years old and young adults 19 to 34 years old. Change a life by moving beyond the stigma of silence and seek to live the life God has destined for us- a good one, with love and hope. UIW Speaker Dr. Christopher Leeth will be opening with a talk on mental health. Celebrated Guest Speaker Sam Eaton will delve into the hot topics of depression and suicide, and the moment that changed his life for the better. Join us for this free event, with food, entertainment, and helpful resources provided by health clinics from around the San Antonio area. For questions or additional information please contact Katherine Klee at (210)-753-0278.
