St Mary’s, Isleworth Newsletter for 15th May 2015 A New Government! So we now all know the results of last’s weeks elec2on! It’s was amazing to see the results and see the resigna2ons too! Nicky Morgan has been confirmed in place as the Secretary of State for Educa2on and that means that there should be con2nuity for us. This is a good thing. At St Mary’s we benefit so much from the close and posi2ve rela2onships between school and parents this is because we recognise as Saint (Pope) John Paul II said that you are the first educators of your children. Together with you and the Parish we work together to give your child a full and broad educa2on. Knowledge we can get from Google! At St Mary’s we aim to equip children with the skills they will need for secondary school and life whilst building a loving rela2onship with God. We also benefit from the fantas2c fund raising efforts of the the PTA. Your work (as PTA members) brings so much extra to the children. It’s par2cularly important to men2on this work with the current funding focus is for another set of iPads. We will rely on your work increasingly in the coming years I think as we are expec2ng a 1012% cut in school budgets for us this means about £140 000. Parents also help by contribu2ng £5 a month to the Governors’ maintenance fund and again this money is vital. Our last project was the new boys’ toilets and over the next few weeks damaged caused by leaks to roof and walls will be made good and we will redecorate All using money from these contribu2ons. THANK YOU! Photocopying We are trying to be paperless but from 2me to 2me we do send le\ers and flyers home. Please look a^er them, if you do lose a le\er remember it will be on the le\ers sec2on of our website. Due to the high number of copies of le3ers that the office are requested to make, we have decided to make a charge of 50p per photocopy from a?er half term. Cycling and Scoo:ng It is fantas:c to see so many cyclists and scooters everyday. Please remember that nobody should be cycling or scoo:ng once through the school gates.

Yr4    Football  Compe22on

Two  terms  ago  (on  November  17),  2  teams  from  Yr  4  took  part  in  a  football  compe22on  at  Goals.  They  played  many  nail-‐bi2ng  games,  which  they  enjoyed  all  thoroughly.  Unfortunately,  a^er  many  2ring  games  the  second  team  were  knocked  out.  Thankfully  the  first  team  were  s2ll  in  for  a  chance!

Soon  they  were  through  to  the  final.  The  team  of  eight  (Camila  ,  Evie  ,  Eoin  ,  Sam,

Pablo,  Billy,  Finley  and  Holly)  played  their  last  match  against  Our  Lady  St  Johns  and  unfortunately  lost!!!  Sam,  the  team  goalie,  stated,  “Goal  keeping  was  hard,  especially  during  penal2es.”

Evie  commented,  “We  had  lots  of  fun  even  though  we  came  second.”

Next  Tuesday  the  team  will  be  playing  at  Griffin  Park  against  other  finalists  to  compete  for  the  trophy.  Good  Luck!

Pictures  from  the  Griffin  Park  final  are  on  the  next  page.    The  St  Mary’s  team  came  5th  out  of  the  West  London  schools  that  took  part.    A  fantas2c  result!

PIANO PLAYING

A few weeks ago, Chris Howard came in from Sound Steps and played the keyboard in assembly so

students could be inspired to sign up to play.

He played some amazing tunes, which filled the room with joy, happiness and excitement. One was ‘Let

It Go’ and most of the children screamed with joy upon hearing it. Maya, Year 6, said, ‘’ I really liked

the other songs especially ‘Pink Panther’. The man played really well.‘’

Elisa, Year 6, said, ‘’My favourite song was the ‘Harry Potter’ theme tune. I really liked the songs and I

hope he will come again.’’

Mr Howard gave out leaflets to the whole school so they could try out the keyboard. A lot of the school

clearly wanted to join as the school hall was full of excitement and they left in a happy mood, which

helped them concentrate on their work.

Y1 Plants Topic

1C took advantage of one of the sunny days this week to get onto the school site to look at the

plants that were growing there. These plants are all self seeding and the children were really

interested to see the variety. They looked at the leaves and the flowers looking for similarities

and differences.
