Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults St. Mary’s will again be offering the Rite of Christian
Initiation of Adults (RCIA) classes for those interested in
our Catholic faith. These classes focus on the beliefs and
professed faith of our religion. We will share on a variety
of topics- Scripture, Religious History, Prayer- in an
atmosphere of fellowship and prayer. Anyone interested can
call Anita at the parish office for more information or to
sign up. Classes will begin on Thursday evening,
September 17
Perhaps you have a family member who is not
Catholic, but often asks questions about your faith. Maybe
you have a friend or acquaintance in the same situation.
Take the time to invite someone in!
Being a Sponsor; people need a companion during the
RCIA program. You may be asked, and then wonder,
"What does being a sponsor mean?" There is so much to be
learned, so many people to meet, a new life-style, and new
ideas. The work of the sponsor can be summed up in this
way: he/she is a representative of the Church, a witness for
the catechumen, a companion, and an example or model.
The sponsor is a bridge between the catechumen and the
larger community, the human face of a worldwide
organization. The sponsor speaks for the catechumen at
several times in the program, affirming that the person is
indeed ready to take the next step. The sponsor is there to
comfort, explain, challenge, or simply be present to the
catechumen. Finally, the sponsor tries to show or model a
Christian response to life. The rewards of being involved in
the growing faith of another person are immense.

Christ Renews His Parish Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) is a process designed to
bring members of a parish together in Christ. “The
personal, spiritual, and communal growth that takes place
through Christ Renews His Parish is phenomenal”
(Criterion). All of our commitments, including our
commitment to Christ, need continued renewal if we are to
be faithful. CRHP is an effective spiritual renewal process
which calls together the members of the parish in order to
experience personal conversion and Christian community in
the environment of our own parish.
Christ Renews His Parish began in 1969 at Holy
Family Parish in Parma, Ohio, when Fr. John Jacoby
gathered a group of parishioners to pray and plan for the
spiritual renewal of their parish. The men formed a team,
outlined a weekend of prayer and sharing and stayed
together for the weekend. The results were dramatic. The
group witnessed what is called “numerous miracles of
grace” and came away with a new appreciation of the love
of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. Since those early
days, hundreds of thousands of Catholic men and women
have taken part in this spiritual renewal process.
One of the unique quailities of this process is that it
seems to offer each individual the opportunity to seek what
they personally need at the time in respect to their personal
spiritual growth. It can be as rewarding and enriching for
the person who hasn’t entered the church doors in twenty
years as it is for the one who has been involved in theology
or scripture study.
The gospel comes to life in everyday living, in the
major events, in the mundane, in the pain, in the joy. People
come to recognize the common life they live in Christianity
while finding the goodness of the differences in
personalities and gifts, all at the same time. As one
individual described their experience, “It is discovering your
own life as a gospel.”
What happens on a weekend? Participants arrive on
a Saturday morning, pray, listen to stories, reflect on how
those stories can relate to God working in their own lives,
share some of those insights. The themes of the weekend
are Renewal, New Life in Christ, Spirituality, Christian
Community, Christian Awareness, Reconciliation,
Scriptures, Father’s Loving Care and Discipleship.
Most who experience Christ Renews His Parish come to
recognize it NOT as “one more thing to do” but as a source
of energy to help them in all those “things that have to be
done.” “Renewal” is truly the appropriate word for this
process.
We are very excited about being able to offer this
program at St. Mary’s. A women’s weekend is planned for
February 6 & 7, 2010 and will take place here on the parish
grounds. Our number will be limited to 20 for the weekend
and is open to women who are at least 19 years old. CRHP
is for anyone seeking spiritual renewal, desiring to build up
the Body of Christ or gain a deeper sense of purpose within
the parish community. Praying for guidance is important. If
you feel that Christ, through the Holy Spirit is calling you –
COME!
A men’s weekend will also take place in February 27 &
28, 2010.

ATTE&TIO& SERVERS and PARE&TS…
Parents be sure to watch the new Server schedule
coming out. We will be scheduling 4 servers for the
weekday masses—2 for Monday, Tuesday, and
Wednesday....and 2 for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.—
Since we had a great number of 5th and 6th graders signing
up to serve, we hope this will give us a bigger turnover and
allow the servers to have more opportunity to serve Mass.
ALL SERVERS, please watch the bulletin and Parish
Speaker carefully and mark your calendars for your
scheduled times to serve. If you find it is impossible for you
to take your assigned time, please, please, get someone to
fill your spot. If this happens unexpectedly or you become
ill at the last minute, please call Joan Koors @ 663-6403 or
Vince Schwering @ 663-9272 and we will do what we can
to help. Please don’t assume someone else will take your
place.
